I remember the first time I walked into HRO Kearny Mesa [circa 1990, I think] looking for a shortwave radio, before I got my license. There was a guy behind the counter, his lapel badge said, Tom McDuffie, KM6K. He showed me what he had on the back shelf/wall and I took the Radio Shack DX 200.Tom said that if could try it for a week; if I didn't like it, I could opt for a better one. I used it a week, returned it and chose the R-71A, which I still have. When he passed in July, 2009, it rocked the ham radio community in San Diego, I believe. Now, his beloved "candy store" has closed. I will miss the store, Joe, Jerry, and their [sometimes!] helpful crew. Just kiddin guys'! I think of Tom and now I will think of the "good ol' days". It was a great time to be a ham. It's difficult to say "Good-bye", but the time has come to move on. Thank you for the memories, the radios, the help and the friendship, HRO Kearny Mesa! I'm better for having know you all! God Bless and R.I.P.
