- Reviewing my experience with the OnePlus Open after using it for 3 weeks. How did it hold up to expectations? This being OnePlus's first foldable, are they in the same ballpark as their competition?

I have watched so many review videos of this phone. Not one had mentioned my biggest issue with the phone. The brightness level when the phone is in auto brightness mode. In low lighting situations, the display adjust down so low, I have to increase it manually. It’s enough to drive you crazy. The good news is that they can fix it with a software update. The real question is, have they even identified it as an issue?
Unfortunately, I find it unlikely that they will hear of any issues with the auto brightness because it doesn't appear as a bug and there is no log for them to reference. Hopefully someone from the company notices or hears of it.
Ah I also have the auto brightness issue! I ended up disabling it
I found exactly the same with close up focusing. More often than not it would be out of focus. In comparison with my Fold V5 and Magic V2 which was spot on every time.
Best phone. I will buy❤❤❤
I learned a couple of new tricks about the phone. Thanks for the review
Great. I'm happy it was helpful.
Thanks for the review, how did you do the lock screen gestures?
Found it, screen-off gestures in settings
It's still a good foldable unlocked phone.
My thoughts on "wireless charging". I'm trading in my fold 4 n i have a "pop socket" on my fold 4 that i use all the time so i can't use the fold 4 wireless charging. So, when i put a pop socket on my new OnePlus open, i wont miss the wireless charging. I'll take 67 watt charging over wireless anyway day. Nice "honest n objective" video!😊
Thanks. For sure, if you don't use wireless charging then the OnePlus Open is by far the better option.
Thank you very much for this very honest feedback! Much appreciated
Of course. Thanks for watching.
I love the honesty
For the maximum of 4 apps on a row, you can use another launcher. But in that case you can not use the taskbar...
There is always the option for a floating window also. But for most scenarios, three will be enough.
When you have the phone open does the keyboard stretch across both screens (large uninterrupted keyboard)?
By default the keyboard splits in the middle. Both halves are easily accessible, none of the keys are out of reach. I added a screenshot of the keyboard on the community tab in case you want a visual.
In that format is it easy to use when writing emails ect?
It is easy to type with the larger keyboard. It took a little getting used to, but it is much more comfortable for longer sessions of typing because it places my hands in a better position.
The slow typing is a serious issue and should be present in a flagship phone. It's an issue with palm mist touch detection . Reddit is full with complaints about this. Oppo find n as well.
Agreed. Thanks for the info.
You too , great job:) frankly I feel OnePlus and Oppo won't Fix the lag issues, if we don't make a big deal out of it. I bet they see it as a low priority task. Perhaps ita a wise idea to change the title of the video adding: major flaw (touchscreen lag).
@@phoneux is there screen lag with normal scrolling? Have you guys tried different keyboards for typing? Great channel, subbed.
@chriswhitebear9799 I haven't tried other keyboards because I really like Gboard. I don't notice any lag aside from the typing.
@chriswhitebear9799 oh, and thanks for the sub 👍
I’ve heard so many reviews harp on wireless charging.
Most if not all phones that wireless charge well , the back of the phone is VERY CLOSE to the charger. With the camera bump on this device being as deep as it is. Most wireless chargers probably wouldn’t work properly. And then OP would have people harping on that. I know of one brand of wireless charger that will charge through a thin case. I’ve returned countless that wouldn’t.
Just be happy with the super vooc and let it go.
You're absolutely right, but I still wish the phone had it lol. I would even buy a wireless charger specifically made for this phone just to have the feature, that's how much I use it.
GOOD REVIEW '
Thanks!
Wish I could afford it. 😢❤
Biggest issue is you cannot multitask and open 2 chrome's at the same time , each app can only be opened once in multitasking
Thanks for your comment. That is not something I had attempted.
My biggest issue on the open is the screen won't turn off or timeout, stays on permanently in all situations! Anyone else had this?? Tried rebooting, clearing cache etc. Nothing. Rarely the timeout works but mostly doesn't. Very annoying.
I haven't noticed that on mine. I tested it by switching to 15 second timeout and it worked every time. I usually turn off the screen manually when I'm done using the phone.
What launcher are you using?
Just using the standard launcher.
How do you get your apps looking a different colour?
Settings > Wallpapers & style > Icons > choose the 'Custom' option > toggle the switch for 'Adopt system colors'
Thanks for the workaround, I just prefer to have the apps available with a single tap on the dock for quick access.
Great review! But would it be a wise decision to trade in my 512GB S23 Ultra for this One Plus Open?
I'm not sure I would trade in an S23 Ultra for any other phone. The S23U is arguably the best phone available.
Thank you for answering brother. I guess I will hold on to my S23 Ultra and wait for the S24 Ultra. Your video helped me a lot. Subscribed. Love from India. ❤
@premgaru8556 Glad I could be of help. Thanks for subscribing, I appreciate the support.
Finally, which do you prefer?
I haven't compared them on paper yet, but I keep going back to the OnePlus Open whenever I'm using the others.
I am getting low volume on hansfree in whatsapp call? Anyone else facing the issue? Any solutions?
I've noticed that sometimes the volume up button raises the media volume instead of the call volume. Double check by clicking the three dots when raising the volume and check the other volume levels.
