I have always liked Toby and I can’t understand why so many hate him. I feel like he is the most accurate portrayal of someone working a 9 to 5 office job. I also felt like he was, to an extent, a very important character. His relationship with Michael holds a large portion of the funniest moments in the show.

Toby is so very relatable to me. IDK why they made his character so creepy & unlikable later on in the show, but for the most part he's just a very nice yet very depressed person. I don’t think they wanted people to hate Toby. I mostly felt bad for him

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Michael Scott’s character in the first season was way worse than Toby. Good thing they changed him. He would have been a terrible character
Imagine that the directors of Phyllis’ Wedding put one of the most feel good moments that came from Toby(when his girlfriend catches the flowers and Toby roots for himself) in one of the cringiest episode that is really hard to watch so that the audience would miss one of the best(in my opinion) Toby scenes. Cause that worked, I have only seen the episode once and don’t dare to rewatch it and completely forgot that scene.

It was weird having an irl friend that have the same energy as Toby. He’s very timid and seem dead inside all the time but if you have a talk with him you will know how interesting he can be. It’s just that he won’t be the one who start the conversation. I really adored Toby character so much
