    From the anonymous pilot who keyed the mic and said "keep flying that airplane" - a motto all pilots should remember. Fly to the crash site, and at low altitude and low airspeed, never turn back to the airport. RIP

      Depending on the aircraft, your plan should be to immediately turn back after crossing a certain altitude. I brief these emergency procedures and look at potential areas to land at if I lose an engine below that altitude.

      ​@cowarddonnie-ji5yz no engine. It cut. His name was Victor Dotensko from here in Ontario Canada. They knew fast who he was and his wife and 3 kids. It had to be proven they were the ones who were on the plane by witnesses then notify family. 🇨🇦

      My wife hates when she sees me looking for places to land all the time. I do so because it was pounded into my head that you should always be prepared to make a forced landing.

      @@afdchocolatemilk2107 Yes and flying at low altitude over areas where no good landing options exist is poor risk management. It has been suggested the accident pilot was not highly experienced and this would seem to be a contributing factor, his flight history in this aircraft since purchase was only a few short flights. More info will emerge in time. I don't know what he hit besides the ground but seems like the left wing struck something and with the nav lights on sparks likely met the fuel. From the video I saw he didn't stall it he just flew into the ground and other objects. Hope it was over fast for them and they didn't feel a thing.

    My initial impression is that he mismanaged fuel or its system, was surprised by an engine stoppage, and then pulled just a teensy bit too much on the descent.
    Depressing how often stall spin accidents take lives. Damned shame.
    The dead were identified in a local newspaper as Victor and Rimma Dotsenko with their children Emma, Adam, and David.

    When reading comments, I always appreciate genuine insight from those who know or are qualified to offer opinions. I never appreciate “UA-cam watching experts” spraying the pilot or otherwise, especially when lives have been lost.

    I saw part of the airplane on the side of interstate on the way to an appointment the next morning and I had no idea this had happened. It was so small from being crumpled that I didn't think anyone could fit on it. I was upset about the traffic jam making me late. I wish I could go back and slap myself. RIP to everyone involved....

    The controller was trying to talk the pilot into the impossible turn... at night. He was talking and distracting this pilot way too much.
    The best advice came from the anonymous pilot on the frequency who told the pilot to "keep flying that airplane."

      ​@@richdavidson8554 You are using zero brain power. The controllers need to have annual trainings on how to deal with this, including tips on giving reminders to pilots. Controller should only say "clear to land any runway, let me know how I can help." THAT'S IT!! Other than reminders like "maintain best glide until you find a spot. Do not stop flying the plane, do not stall by making an impossible climb," etc.

      Scared not given up. He had his wife Rimma and 3 very young kids Emma,David and Adam on board. He made it clear he was landing but didn't know where. He was trying for a grassy area obviously.🇨🇦

    They're saying PLATE, number not flight number. They're reading it off the serial number data plate in the aircraft's tail.

    I think the plane must of hit the traffic camera pole, which caused it to spin down next to that sign. Perhaps the pole wasn't seen until it was too late.

    The river may have been the better option given the traffic on I-40, but I don't know they had enough energy to make it either. They would have needed to turn tighter and more degrees which would have eaten into their energy so it looks like they tried I-40. I hope we learn what really happened to the engine -- it looks like it might have been failure to switch fuel tanks early enough.

      @@Yosetime one side of the aircraft is burnt up, the other side isn't. I forget if it's just left and right switch or has a both... I think it has both tank cross feed.
      When you see a tail number starting with a C you can safely assume 3rd rate stuff and it extends deeply into aviation. They just don't have deep pools of knowledge and experience and they tend to make mistakes that saying sorry doesn't fix. Again they aren't really good at doing anything but somehow think they are automatically 2nd best because they're next to us.
      They had trouble getting into the airport prior to this leg.
      Look the Canadians thought that airliner out of Terhan 1st was a mechanical malfunction, everyone that knows anything could see the shrapnel holes in it..... 2nd they thought it was an air defense accident but any command shack would be on the radio and have the airport traffic pattern memorized.....they don't have any depth of knowledge and experience.

    Current speculation based on the wreckage is a 'fuel management' issue. Notice that one wing burned and one wing was untouched. This affected aircraft stability too.

      He stopped in PA and just left Kentucky 15 minutes earlier from getting fuel. How about they go to that airport in KY and check the quality of the fuel for water or impurities since his plane was fine since leaving here in Ontario until he got fuel there 15 minutes before his engine stopped. Your investigators never go check the place that they fuelled up at minutes before the crash. They scour the plane that just passed inspection then try to blame the pilot. We have extremely high standards in canada. That's why you aren't seeing plane crashes every few days or very often at all here in canada. We don't cut corners and have strict protocols, high standards. 🇨🇦

    I don'T get it - according to the map they had multiple fields and a big river to the left of the airplane but they tried to land on a highway and missed...:(

      Having flown a couple of night approaches into KJWN, those fields and the surrounding hills and river just look like black holes at night. I-40 may have been the only visible forced landing option within potential glide range.

    Passed his credentials in 2022, flight history, took four/ five short flights around his home territory, then decided to fly across the country. His decision was a bad one. A very inexperienced pilot, also he was flying at night, very poor decisions overall. Just watched a different video, very experienced pilot glided plane for many many miles and landed with no engine. Too many new pilots jump the gun, ahhh how hard is it to fly a plane, i passed, im good.
    Another comment says why are these small planes dropping from the sky? Inexperience, when the sh t hits the fan..... what do i do....

      Agree 100%. This one hit home. His home airport of Brampton is relatively close to my home airport in Brantford, Ontario. Very few hours logged and then a long trip was the mistake. He needed another pilot in the right seat to acquire a heightened level of confidence to better handle any emergency for a trip of that duration. Condolences are all we can give at this point.

      @@Cmunic8not sure about that, if you follow Dan Gryder? He reports plane crash stats and we’re actually down from what we were at this time last year in crashes.
      Ironically Dan also has been hammering home not attempting to make the, “Impossible turn,” which is what this poor guy was trying to do just to find some real estate to, “Keep flying that airplane,” to. God Bless their hearts, just not an option in such a densely populated area, couldn’t have happened at a worse spot.

      @@carlyellison8498 you’re fairly new to planes eh? That’s ok because I can explain. In this case he was trying to get back to the airport to the West of him, that had just cleared a whole 6000ft. runway for him to land on that he just overshot at an altitude of 1600ft. I believe this was his final intended airport on his flight plan too, someone please correct me if I’m wrong? This was their final leg of four stops that day. And yes, the originally came from Ontario, Canada. Planes can be funny like that with their inter country travel eh, lol?
      Sad to say but I’m with the fuel exhaustion theory.

      In my opinion it should never be an option for any airplane to land on any roadway for any reason without permission from Highway Patrol. It's not fair to drivers on the road to have to deal with private pilots who get themselves into trouble to have the right to land their planes on my car. It's hard enough to stay safe on a highway with all the crazy drivers out there. I shouldn't have to worry about an airplane landing on me too. As far as I'm concerned, if they have not specifically cleared a roadway for you, you either have an airport or a field or waterway or some unpopulated place to land your airplane in an emergency and that's it. It's an airplane, not a toy. These 3 children died a horrible death because the pilot, in all likelihood, should not have been flying that plane at night in that situation. I don't think this pilot had any control over where he was going to end up. But I'm glad it was not the highway. So many more people would have perished. The highway camera's shown in the news broadcasts show the highway was absolutely packed. It was a miracle nobody else was harmed.

    I grew up around aviation. I saw this on a regular basis without any bad outcome. New pilots want to take a cross-country with family as soon as they get the private ticket. As they get experienced, they rarely do this. I opted not to become a pilot, even with free lessons and plentiful airplanes. Too much responsibility to consider it recreational for a kid. Prayers for the family lost.

His plane was in great condition passing inspections until he got fuel minutes before in Kentucky. We don't have our planes crashing in canada but in the usa planes are crashing everywhere. Low standards impure or watery gas? Stop blaming our pilot who may have been wrong to bring his young family to nashville for a vacation. More and more Canadians are staying in canada🇨🇦

      I can’t explain it properly but Juan at Blancolirio here on UA-cam can. There is something to how these planes manage their fuel exchange system to the wings and you have to do the Standard operating procedure just right, in order for it to make the switch. And if you’ve already run out of gas, it takes the reserve 10sec to kick in. 10 seconds at 1600ft is not very much time. This was the final and end of the legs (fourth) of a long day for this family and they were likely at the end of their gas reserves (Bingo time) as it was. And it starting to sound like a fairly new pilot learning on a very fickle plane that needs an experienced pilot.
      Tragic end and prayers to all involved. I’ll be curious as to what NTSB says. We’ll hear that in what, 10yrs?

      @@MickDickerson That is much like I'm learning now too. I think it is tragic and, not being a pilot myself, a bit disturbing that a pilot with only 300 hours of flight time would consider flying with children over such a great distance for the first time, and at night. Thinking of what the children must have went through during their descent just gutted me. I hope they were sleeping.
      I hate that saying "You're more likely to get into a car accident on the way to the airport than you are to get in an airplane accident". This difference being that most car crashes are survivable, and most airplane crashes are not. Airplanes are no joke. Private pilots need more oversight. It's getting out of hand.

I'm unsure what went wrong (maybe stall?). It's humbling to see all these videos of 15k+ hr double I's winding up passing away from accidents.

    If this video is accurate, something doesn't seem right to me. If Tune was the plan all along, why fly directly over it regardless of the wind direction. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be flying that near to it at low altitude.

      I believe he flew over it at 2500 ft originally. We heard the emergency, right after that overfly, at 1600 ft. He probably used up that 900 ft of descent trying to troubleshoot. Sounds like he checked in pretty late with ATC and was already out of control. He didn't even send out a Mayday. ATC had to declare for them. Sounds like he was quite panicked and had given up by the time we heard the 1600 ft audio. Still don't know if he planned on landing at Tune. The ATC didn't seem to be aware of his intended arrival. Nobody even knew where the plane came from until the next day. And they still haven't released the names of the family.

      That was for customs/immigration. I grew up 15 minutes from ERI, and it's an "international" airport, although there are no commercial/airline international flights these days. But, it is still a port of entry.

      There should be no tone necessary. Everyone is different. An emergency is an emergency. Shouldn't judge anyone for that nor should a different tone make it any more of an emergency. Really sad outcome tho RIP.

    If he reported engine trouble and diverted to John Tune, why did he overfly the runway? Land the plane.

      I think his destination was Nashville International (from ADSB data). After passing John Tune, he started to turn for Nashville Int. At this point he lost the engine and couldn't make the runways.

      @@the_flight_records It looks like he flew around the west side of Nashville. They were landing to the south that night, so If he was going to BNA, I'm not sure why he was over there. He got to around Greenbrier and started heading direct to John Tune it looks like. Will have to see what the NTSB finds, but this is just weird.

    Use rudder to make turns, keep it just above stall speed, gentle glide slope
