    I have a 2020 mercury 200hp 4 stroke. It will not trim all the way up to engage the service arm. It did only one time when I first picked it up from the dealership. Is there a way to calibrate without having to take to a stealership? I don’t have the smart gauges like you showed. I only have analog gauges and VesselView mobile.

    Are the trim sensors tied in with the oil tank level sensor units? I had a intermittent issue with a two stroke Yamaha oil tank and putting engine in a low rpm/limp mode. But for a two stroke engine I've noticed WOT doesn't seem to be happening. Like there should be more available.

    Had one fail on a 150hp merc this week. Limited engine to about 2500rpm. Customer couldn’t believe a trim sender would cause the problem. It’s unfortunate the way the sensor circuits are wired on the newer stuff that it can’t just be unplugged. Reducing engine power over a faulty trim sender seems like more harm than good. Imagine being offshore and having a miserable ride home because of something stupid unnecessary to operation of the engine. It would be understandable if it’s an oil or a cooling issue.

      Good idea to carry some spare parts. This should be one of them. Even if you can't install it out on the water, you can just plug it in and turn the rheostat to the right position until the motor is happy, to get yourself home.

    Does this apply to all merc engines? I have an old I/O 7.4 with an alpha 1. The trim position sensor wires corroded away and are no longer connected so i just cut away the excess. I don't have a position indicator so i didn't bother replacing them. I can't get the engine above 2900rpm. It was like this when i bought it so i have nothing to compare it to.

    Hello, the real cause of this problem is the propeller pitch. It's not only your engine, it will happen to all the engines in the world haha. The pitch of your propeller grips the water so well that the engine does not have enough force to keep make more rpm, you just need to switch up to a propeller with less pitch. Good luck

    Running a 4 stroke wide open is exactly what the motor makers want. You will not get even 5 years out of that motor. A two stroke on the other hand will run wide open and still be perfect after 50 years. Once reed valves were put in two strokes they were perfected. No other mods should have been made. First horrible idea was oil injection. Ruined more motors faster than a handful of sand thrown into the intakes.

    This is what bugs me about sensor proliferation these days, its prescriptive nature.
    Its fine that it takes care of the engine but if I unplug it, you should let it go. Or at least give me a way to disable the feature at my own risk.
    I want engines from mercury. Not a babysitter.

    • @austech360
      @austech360 Рік тому +1

      *giggles* Yeah! Exactly! I appreciate the sensors for the data they give, but using them to control and limit what I do with the motor is so overkill these days. I also hate how the Mercury software is so proprietary! I have plenty of laptops. Make the sale of the diagnostic cables, and the software open for everyone to use. If you screw up your own motor, that's your fault. This is part of what "Right to repair" is about. I bought the motor, I paid good money for it, I should be allowed to plug into it and see what sensors are wonky and be able to fix it myself!
