I believe you are referring to John the Baptist not Paul. And John said he was not the light, but he bear witness to the light. He baptized you with water, but he said he that comes after me baptizes you with water and with fire. So if Jesus did not die and resurrect, we would still be lost in sin and no atonement for our sins. Good question, just follow along in the scriptures and you’ll see and understand. Blessings
