      If you are asking whether I connected the Zigbee SmartWIngs blinds to Homey, this I have not attempted at this point in time.

    Hey Bud, nice tutorial. Are you seeing greater functionality and ease of use in using the Homey Pro over the SmartThings system? If I weren't already using Home Assistant, I think I'd likely be leaning towards the Homey Pro. On another note, does Smartwings offer a dual smart shade with both light filtering and blackout in one unit?

      In response to your first question, At this juncture, I personally am not ready to make a full switch. This is mainly because I'm finding several of my current devices are currently unsupported. I am convinced that support will continue to improve as the hub becomes more popular and prevalent in the US. All this said, for someone that is just starting out or someone that has a small setup, it makes sense to start with Homey and continue to build out your smart home with Homey compatible devices. Homey offers much in the area of advanced flows and allows me to do far more in automation then I could accomplish in SmartThings.
      Regarding SmartWings shades, they call the type of shades to which you refer as "Dual Shades". Here is my affiliate link to the referenced shades: www.smartwingshome.com/products/smartwings-motorized-dual-shades?ref=17

    Hey Bud, thanks for your education. I enjoy your Smartthings content. I am considering moving to Homey but I am a little confused. With Homey, are the different hubs required, for example Smartthings, Acara, etc. Can you help?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 місяці тому

      I'll take a stab at answering your question but if I miss the mark, just let me know. As with the SmartThings hubs, including the Aeotec hub made for SmartThings, with the Homey Pro hub you can connect many different protocols, (Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter) which allows you to connect many different devices for various smart device manufactures. Currently, for the US Homey Pro hubs, the number of compatible devices are less then the number of compatible devices which are compatible with SmartThings. I believe that will change in time. There are some device manufactures, Aqara is one of them, that promote their own hubs. However, SmartThings community contributors have developed drivers that allow you to install Aqara devices without Aqara's hub. Homey has done a similar thing for devices like Zooz and Aqara devices. Homey refers to these software interfaces as Apps. So to install a device from Zooz or Aqara you would first install the appropriate app and then use the app to add the device. The downside, at times, is that the Homey app , like the ST driver, may not always offer the same capabilities that are available if you installed the device on the manufactures hub. But in most cases the drivers or apps are good enough. I go out of my way to ensure that I have one hub for all devices. The more hubs you add to the mix, your routines or flows, (in the case of Homey), begin to suffer for the lack of device integration. I trust this helps.

      @@BudsSmartHome Thanks for your prompt reply. I am in my first year on smart home integration and am concerned about the future of Smartthings as well the "free" use of amazon. I like having local control of the system and have been investing in Zigbee where possible. I use Eufy security cameras but only with Amazon (kind of hit and miss) Smartthings does not recognize the cameras or the motion detection. This is where I though Homey would help. There is Homey community app. available for the Eufy system. Any thoughts?

      As far as my take on Cameras, I prefer power over ethernet (POE) cameras over the wireless. There’s many positive reasons but mainly the benefits are local storage reliability and security. That’s a whole other subject. As for Eufy’s, the apps instructions tell you… “Because of the way the Eufy Security private API works, an email/password combo cannot
      work with both the Eufy Security mobile app and the Homey app. It is recommended to use the mobile Eufy app to create a secondary "admin" account with a separate email address
      and use it with this app.”
      It does appear by reading the flow cards that you can detect motion and people events within Homey. Here is a link: homey.app/en-us/app/com.eufylife.security/Eufy-Security/
      I guess I should add that my Amcrest cameras are not integrated with SmartThings, but I’m good with that.

      @@BudsSmartHome It is in my plans to incorporate POE on around the house. The Eufy was the only WIFI that would reach my Euro mesh system, I tried several others. I need a WIFI to reach my gate to the property. I have been researching Homey but was not sure about the need for other vender hubs , it sounds like I don't need the expense of the other hubs on top of the cost of the Homey. Thanks for your time and I look forward to your next video.

    Smartwings come with different motors, im planning on getting a homey pro, is it worth getting the matter motor?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 місяці тому +1

      Personally, I would recommend that you get the Zigbee motor. I have three blinds with matter motors. Two of the blinds need to be updated with new matter controllers because they disconnected all the time. I have two outdoor Zigbee blinds and they have been solid on connections, despite being further away from the Smart Home hub. All that said, I have not tried to pair the Zigbee blinds with Homey as yet if I get a chance this afternoon, I’ll give it a try and report back to you.

      Ok. Testing completed. It installed and discovered in Homey as an "Unknown Zigbee Device", and was added to the hub. However, when I tried to control the blind the app through an error "this device does not support on or off". I have spoken with SmartWings and they are working with Homey to establish an App. (All non-Matter devices require a Homey App.) So when and if SmartWings gets an App in place with Homey the Zigbee and Z-Wave shades should connect.
      Also, about the Matter shades, since SmartWings sent me the updated controllers, two of the three shades they sent me have stayed connected. The third shade, which is installed in my garage and is the furthest from the hubs, is connected with Homey and it does go off line occasionally. As you likely know, Matter devices build their own Thread mesh network. I have no other Matter devices on that side of my home. My thought is that as I build out my home with more Matter over Thread devices, the network will be much stronger and capable.
      I will send this discussion to SmartWings to see if I can get a progress update on the SmartWings Homey App.

      @@BudsSmartHome ok, what would you recommend for a small apartment?

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  2 місяці тому +1

      @@TornadoBarrage~ in the case of a small apartment, your shades will be close enough to the hub. Therefore, provided that you are not passing through multiple walls or another floor level, you should be fine with the Matter over Thread motor.

    Obviously your shade doesn't have Bluetooth, so why is homey looking for Bluetooth to connect??? I have matter over thread light but homey will only search with Bluetooth...

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  4 дні тому

      Homey Pro uses its Bluetooth antenna to make the initial connection to the device (once the device is added, this is no longer necessary, as the device will only communicate over Thread/Wi-Fi).
