  • Here is an episode of "The Price is Right" from May 23, 1975. At this point, showcase prizes were still a bit odd, like a novel by James A. Michener.

I miss when CBS used to air these back in the years of the Pilsbury Bake-Off. Remember a couple of them from around 2000 or so.

Yes, I remember CBS airing this classic episode of "TPiR" in 2002.
Miss you hosting "TPiR", Bob Barker!!!

I always got a kick out of the early "Clock Game" playings-at the end, when the game board rotated away on the turntable, the clock magically reset itself.

The days of Janice Pennington, in the green tent dress, and Anitra Ford in red. The thing about this episode that intrigued me was how quickly Anitra had to move in the second showcase at 16:12. The coffee was described, and then as the camera went to Cheryl the contestant at 16:19, Anitra flies off-camera. In EIGHT SECONDS, she manages to move behind door 2 to show the prizes when Johnny finishes describing the book Janice is holding. Door 1 had to have been open enough to let her in. There is no way she could have run completely offstage and back around behind doors 1 and 2 in that short of time.

Back in the 1970's when I growing up, I remember the gremlin and the pinto were popular cars back then. My parents had a gremlin. I liked that car. They quit making them a long time ago. Still is a great game show today 😄.

I wonder when they started to give contestants the 100 dollars when they got the exact price while bidding to get on stage ?

The show was only 30 minutes long and no spin? I really started watching the show in the early 80's for a while.

+Granny LaLa The big wheel did not appear until later in 1975, when the show became one hour long. In the 1/2 hr shows, the top two winning contestants (out of 3) go to the showcase.

+Granny LaLa Yep, up until 1975. When they experimented with an hour then permanent later. It was luck of the draw, somebody might play for a car while another person would play for a console TV. So the two who won the most were in the showcase.
