    Any notable differences in care requirements among the varieties of leopard wrasses? Was considering a black leopard.

      @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL  Місяць тому

      @jordanm2984 Nope...for the most part all the leopards have the same care requirements. Get him from a trusted LFS, make sure he is eating well before you take him home, and make sure he has been at the LFS for at least a week. That all gives you the best shot. You Wil love them leopards and tamarans are my favorite wrasses!!! Let me know how it goes! 😁

      @@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL Trying to do as much research as possible before I get one. I'm trying something a bit unique (I think) - stocking only monochromatic fish (all peaceful), just different patterns and body shapes. I've personally never seen it done before in saltwater. For wrasses, I was thinking about either just an Anampses lineatus or Macropharyngodon negrosensis, or possibly both (if I can keep the pods stocked enough). I have a 75 gallon reef and I've been doing saltwater tanks for ~15 years. That said, these would be the most challenging fish I've attempted!
      From what I've read, I'm not necessarily worried about aggression between these, but given their similar patterning, if I started with two small females, do you suppose the visual similarities would cause one or both of them to switch to male (a "social cue")? I'm seeing conflicting information online - Do environmental conditions cause wrasses to changeover to male ("As the situation calls for it"), or do they ALWAYS end up male given enough time/age?
      How does this idea strike you, generally? I'm totally open to criticism and suggestions, especially if it's a poor idea.

      @jordanm2984 Sounds like a sound plan! I had two vermiculated Leopard wrasses. Had them for many years. Both stayed female, I lost one of them during a tank leak. The second one hit the sand for over a month and came out a male. I still have him to this day. My Melegris Leopard I bought as a tiny less than a half inch little guy about 7 years ago. He just gradually turned into a male on his own about two years ago. I would definitely buy those two wrasses together. I don't see a problem mixing the two of them. I think there is a great chance one or both would turn into male eventually at some point. Both my male leopards now are big and are BFFs.....lol.....

    Have you ever tried a regal or asfur angel in your tank?

    • @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
      @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL  Місяць тому

      @gregorymowens1697 I have never tried a Asfur Angel, but years ago I tried a Regal Angel twice. The first one ate at the LFS but wouldn't eat much in my tank....no harassment from other fish, I had no angels back then or big tangs, then it died a week later. The second one I tried did really well for about 6 months, then woke up the next morning after doing well for six months and found him dead. That was several years ago. I won't ever try one again. In my opinion they truly are a fish I would leave in the ocean. I have seen them do good for even a couple of years, and die for no reason. I think we can't provide the correct diet for them in captivity. Just my experience. They are truly beautiful though, and I understand why people love them!

      Thanks. I had one for over a year and he ate everything-frozen, nori, flakes, pellets. Unfortunately, I lost all my fish to velvet after I got some corals/snails from my LFS. Never knew that crap can come in like that. QTed all fish before. I’m gonna get everything after being fallow 4 months but would really love an asfur with it. Thanks

      @gregorymowens1697 Asfur Angela are beautiful! I am sorry that happened to you! That would be horrible. With so many wrasses inverts are a no go in my aquarium. They would get eaten before they even hit the sand.

    With your Sohal, I have a 125 gallon, 5’ long, is it too small for one?

    • @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
      @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL  Місяць тому

      @gregorymowens1697 Great Question! I would definitely not put one in a tank smaller than a 6ft tank. They can be aggressive, and they swim non stop. That's me personally. I never tell others what to do or not to do with their tank....lol. If you bought a small juvenile you would have to upgrade in less than a year, so that could work in the short term. If you really want one, you have an excuse to upgrade....😁

      Thanks for the advice. Can’t upgrade to a bigger size as on the second floor so I’ll pick some different.

      @gregorymowens1697 I am sorry, I get how tough it is to want a fish and it won't fit in your tank. I just like to be honest with people, especially when I own the fish. If you want other comparable suggestions for your tank size I will be happy to help!

      Thanks, what tang would you suggest instead of the Sohal?

    • @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
      @WRASSEREEFCHANNEL  Місяць тому

      @gregorymowens1697 If your plan is just one Tang a Purple Tang would be my first choice in that size tank, other comparable options would be a Scopus, Yellow Tang (you can only get captive bred YT at this time unfortunately), Powder Blue, Powder Brown, any Bristle Tooth Tangs like Flame fin Tomini, Blue Eyed Tang etc. Keep in mind most tangs can be aggressive so adding them last or near last is probably a good idea. I love tangs, you will be happy with one in your tank. Out of that I found Zebrasoma tangs (Purple, Scopas, Yellow) to be the most durable.
