I refuse to believe that Andy's Universe's movie industry didn't merchandise the 🤬 out of Sox... Maybe Lightyear is Andy's Universe's Live Action Remake...
The version of "time dilation" the movie incorporates would suggest that buzz is actually going slower and slower seeing how he ultimately takes 22 years to go a distance that should have taken him 4 minutes. How is no one noticing this
I feel like this was a movie made for kids that grew up with Toy Story that are now parents and so they can take their children. I got a lot of the references to the Toy Story Buzz, but my 7 year old son didn't pick up on those or see their significance. I don't think this needs a sequel. It should be just a one off movie. I think Sox was one of my favorite characters. I generally do not like the Disney "animal companions" theme, but Sox actually contributed well to the plot.
I'm glad they left the real Zurg's existence open. But this was still supposed to be the movie that Andy saw in theaters back in the late 1990s. And the lore just didn't fit enough for them to say that. Also, despite the lesson, the movie really could've done better without the future Buzz plot. I actually have an idea of how the movie could've been while also giving us the Zurg we love. The movie would be the same until Buzz would get back from his final test flight. Buzz would come to discover that Emperor Zurg has destroyed the laser shield and turned the colony into a city called Z-city. (Think Aku from Samurai Jack) and would need Izzy's help to trigger a rebellion. I would also have established a division between the people who wanted to stay on the alien planet and people who wanted leave the alien planet. Zurg would use propaganda and false promises in order to gain the people who wanted to leave as his followers and have former Zap soldiers become an army known as the Z-Guard. I would also keep Zurg being from the future because of Buzz's multiple test flights with the crystal, causing an anomaly in time and space, accidentally bringing Zurg to the past. I would've later revealed that Zurg is the great grandson of Cal Burnside, the commander who told Buzz the mission was over. It would then be revealed that the division among the people made Burnside obsessed with keeping order, and he believed in doing it through force and after succeeding, his family would later become leaders of a monarchy that wanted to spread their influence throughout the universe until the Galactic Alliance intervened. Before Zurg went to war with the Galactic Alliance, the anomaly Buzz caused would bring Zurg to the past to collaborate with Burnside, who would pretend to be a prisoner of Zurg to keep the people in line. The endgame of Zurg's master plan would be to retrieve the crystal to use as a power source for the main weapon of his Mothership that I call the Hyperspeed Cannon, a weapon that can destroy an entire planet that was inspired by the story Buzz told in the original Toy Story. Zurg's plan is to basically ransom threaten the Galactic Alliance to not interfere with his takeover of the universe and he plans to test it on the alien plant, which Cal Burnside is okay with it because he finds the people of the colony beyond saving due to Buzz triggering a rebellion. Another major difference would by Izzy's backstory. Making it so that she wants revenge against Zurg because she was forcefully drafted into the Z-Guard as a child and when her parents tried to protect them, they were captured. The last time she would see them was when she was being carried by a Z-Guard member, hovering through space to get to his ship to take her away for the draft, leading to her fear of space. I also would've built up to building the Buzz final suit for the final battle. I know this idea isn't perfect, but i truly think it would've kept to the lore Toy Story gave us and gave us the Zurg we deserved to see in this movie. It basically would've been Pixar's Star Wars, mainly because it's obvious that Buzz Lightyear lore was inspired by Star Wars. Zurg is basically Pixar's Darth Vader. I also would've made one of the post credit scenes of Andy who is coming out of the theater with his mother and them hinting at Andy's birthday the next year, connecting to the first Toy Story, making this movie a prequel.
Except in Toy Story 2, a Zurg action figure explicitly states to a buzz action figure that he is buzz’s father, so making zurg . If this film is in the toy story timeline, its a film adaptation of the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command tv show, which was part of the timeline, since each episode started with the toy story gang turning on the tv to watch it. So it would make more sense to do a post credit scene of an adult Andy coming out of the theater, maybe with a toddler of his own.

I really don't understand why most people are hating Chris Evans just because he is not Tim Allen. this film is not about a toy that believes he is buzz, its the story of the character that the toy is base off. Plot hole change my mind: Sox is a robot and should be able to remember the formula. Also why is a colony size spaceship, the turnip, main engine running on a crystal that they don't know how to recreate? I can understand the year or more to build a base, mine for materials, stand the ship up/fix, but why do they need to reinvent crystal technology? This is like early sailors, crash landing on a island, but then to get of they need to reinvent how to make a boat float.
Is that a plot hole or just bad writing? It isn't unexplainable or impossible for those to occur. It's just unrealistic, similar to how no one ever came to find the turnip/ crew. Who are the space rangers anyway? What makes them the good guys?
@@joyvibes_713 A Good counterpoint, but I do not think that was stated. (I maybe wrong) But I do not think that would be much of a issue to the point were they are doing blind trial and error on mixtures, nor to the point were a robot working on it for needs 62 years to calculate a fix. Also why not have multiple and/or better suited robots/AIs do what SOX did? They could have halved the time. Why were the team so quick to have a maned tests if they did not have a theoretically correct mix that takes 62 years to make. Also they should have had multiple backups (on board) to such a critical fuel /power component for a starship. This makes my engineering side scream at such a misstep of planning that is not addressed in the movie. But I ultimately feel that the plot was not as good as it should have been. It seems that they prioritized a message or theme over logical consistency of plot and characters to a point that it greatly effected my enjoyment.
I felt it is a very miss opportunity Disney choose to create a new storyline instead of adapting Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. That animation show is the highlight of my childhood
Definitely I thought we were gonna get that as part of the plot. Until I found out it was time travel. I just thought well chris evans is the star so they pretty much did captain america storyline.
Oh this is interesting. I don't think Zurg's a villain here, I actually agree with his idea. Those people can't miss what they don't know. Also how is it possible that in the Toy Story timeline they've figured out hyperspeed space travel and cryo sleep for this mission???
It is called Sci-Fi. Hyperspeed was probably thought out long before even Star Wars existed. Remember, Jules Verne was the first guy who thought about the trip to the Moon which became reality in 1969.
@Jordan Bowling Is he though? It was Buzz who made the decision to stop on that planet anyway which led to them being essentially trapped there. Who knows the type of life the people on that ship could've ended up living on the new planet anyway.
Your last sentence makes no sense. The first thing shown in the movie is that the movie that we are watching is the movie that Andy watched in 1995. I’m pretty sure hyperspeed and cryosleep were already present in fiction at that point
4:39 "Returning Back to earth 22 years later" I'm not sure if you meant the planet, or the actual word for land "earth" but the planet that he returns to is actually Ducani Prime, sorry if you've been told this before in the comments.
I personally think that applying the space time concept into this movie doesn't seem like a good idea to be presented to the children. I understand Pixar and Disney has represented character deaths in their movies before but seeing your friend passing on while you are still young because of the space time theory doesn't seem appropriate for the children mindset and I don't think they are not ready to face such reality (if the theory does truly work). How the heck did Andy watched through that whole scene???
So Chris Evans plays another character that gets thrust into the future trying to save everyone only for his closest friend to pass away due to time passage. For some reason it sounds familiar don't know why.
The science in this movie is really wrong. The Buzz attempts with 85-90% light speed it could make the trip of around 9 min, to be felt like 2min, and never in 4 years (that star is not that far) in 9min. To make that time expansion, you should go at 99.99975% of the speed of light. And if you finally ca achive worp jump (make a hole in the fabric of space and time), it's very far away from the planet.
I love this movie up until they revealed that Zerg was Buzz from the future. not only does that just make Zerg feel less cool but it literally doesn't make sense. Time dilation is a real concept for going into the future but there's no way to go into the past that way literally makes no sense
They needed to give it a time travel + some type of multiverse story since it's what's "hot" right now. I feel like they rushed it just so they could jump on the bandwagon, they made it way to complicated for children to understand
So, the plot twist is Zurg is Buzz from the future, and he timetraveled to the past to help his younger self change the future... Why do I have this feeling cough cough Lego Movie 2 cough cough I've seen this somewhere?
Thanks for this. It really sucked that Disney messed up hardcore with this film and I couldn't watch it, but you going through the plot has really made me feel a lot better. Thanks for this and keep up the good work.
I mean I'm abit mixed that Zurg ended up being an Evil Future Buzz. At first, I wasn't liking it but it warmed up to me as the movie went on. I really hope that if a sequel does happen thanks to the post credit scene, Future Buzz got damaged from the crystal explosion and now he must be confined to his Zurg suit. Kinda like a Darth Vader scenario, and than on rebuilds his army to become the Emperor Buzz and the Rangers fear him to be.
Since Buzz Lightyear got his origin story Maybe Pixar will make an origin story movie on Sheriff Woody Andy's other toy that he had when he was a kid back in the 1990s.
I just finished watching _Lightyear_ in theater on Saturday, July 2, 2022. I admit, the film is not up to Pixar's usual standards such as the _Toy Story_ franchise. Nevertheless, I found _Lightyear_ to be enjoyable and exciting while planting the seeds for many story ideas that could be explored in a potential continuation. If _Lightyear_ does get a continuation in the future, perhaps Buzz, Izzy, Sox, Mo, and Darby could explore alien planets and civilizations; meet new versions of Mira, Booster, and XR; and witness the formation of the Galactic Alliance. _Lightyear_ may be underdeveloped and underutilized as a Pixar film, but it has untapped potential as a spin-off franchise that could take Buzz and his friends to infinity...and beyond. Score: 7 out of 10.
It was a nice movie because it just brought back a huge amount of nostalgia, being able to see how this Buzz Lightyear started, something I always wondered back when I was a child. From seeing how he got his arm laser blaster to even being able to see how he got his jetpack and wings. It was completely beautiful to me. But I can't help but think that the movie was just a tad bit fast paced, as if they weren't able to completely iron out the character development and it made me quite sad that Buzz wasn't able to interact with his friends no more than maybe four years at a time. I don't know about any of you but for some reason I feel that if they had gone and choose to instead of making a movie turn it into a series with the first season focusing solely on building Buzz's backstory, from his training days as a cadet and graduating, crashing into the planet, seeing how his actions weighted down on him and tried to better himself to bring everyone back, to his confrontation with Zurg along with his own backstory and how he really got the material from the Turnip, all leading to his final fight and Buzz reinstating the Space Rangers with the new suits. I don't know but I feel as if it had a bit of wasted potential in that front.
You want a whole backstory and experience lol it’s not that deep. He’s a space toy that just got an origin story that’s it. Simple. No need for whole life journey.
Also just so it’s on record, my next prediction is that old buzz will turn into a cyborg, needing to become one with the suit, in order to survive space a takes revenge on young buzz.
Ya know, if PIXAR wanted to take a real, and I mean REAL chance (which I doubt they will in my life time) I'd actually kind of like to see a movie or even just a short where real Buzz is going out to a new planet and maybe meets real Woody on a planet that is still relatively primal compared to Buzz. The whole planet could be Western cowboys and stuff.
since time travel exists in lightyear verse. i believe there will be an alternate buzz were he went too far to the past and meets woody. and needs help from woody to get back on his time. so another diff buzz. i dunno. just my imagination
Old buzz back in time 1 week before the arrive of younger buzz with perfect fuel. If younger buzz agree back in time where he made mistake with the turnip there will be a 3 buzz lightyear in the same time line.
Don’t bother trying to figure it out, it has no thought, logic or substance. Pixar just made a generic movie and sampled buzz light year to get you story fans to watch.
Basically, he’s just from the distant future. After almost being arrested by Burnside, he escapes and hyperdrives again into the distant future. There finds a bigger ship and the Zurg suit. He travels back in time as far as he can but still needs another crystal to go far enough for his objective. That’s why he required present Buzz’s crystal
Stupid that the pilot/team doesn't know about time relativity until first years lost I know that they have to explain to the viewers, but it's just lazzy writing

Just to solidify how it was a movie in the Toy Story universe
Lightyear should have been inspired by old 50s pulps, like Dan Dare, Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Instead of that, they tried to ape interstellar and the failed miserably. The old "Star Command" cartoon wasn't perfect but it handled the concept WAY better than this thing. Also, SPOILER making Zurg and Buzz the same person because of time travel shenanigans is the WORST IDEA EVER. The guy who came up with the idea should be fired immediately.
Buzz found that time dilation is a thing in this movie but the Turnip was on a mission at the start of the movie. Does this mean that ALL of the missions and hyperspeed flights in the Star Command did the same? If so how come the Star Command isn't tens of thousands of years old after all of Buzz/Hawthorne's mission so far? How come the two of them did not know about it at the start of their tests?
i think the real question is whose the rightfull owner of the zurg ship, and y was it abandoned, was there something in that ship that made them flee, was there another race of humans in that ship, since zurg is an exoskeleton. fuck now i im curious, "i dont need sleep i need answers"

Is that a plot hole or just bad writing? It isn't unexplainable or impossible for those to occur. It's just unrealistic, similar to how no one ever came to find the turnip/ crew. Who are the space rangers anyway? What makes them the good guys?
Probably should've just said, where the F is the spare fuel when you need them?
Like no ship would run with only one fuel tank.
Agreed
Agreed
Definitely I thought we were gonna get that as part of the plot. Until I found out it was time travel. I just thought well chris evans is the star so they pretty much did captain america storyline.
Thanks so much for explaining this. I was so lost in the beginning of the movie. Makes so much sense now! 🤣
Lightyear was such an great movie to watch in theaters and good video dude :]
This really felt like a combo of the Captain Marvel sidekick story & Captain America’s origin story😭 loved ittt
Oh this is interesting. I don't think Zurg's a villain here, I actually agree with his idea. Those people can't miss what they don't know. Also how is it possible that in the Toy Story timeline they've figured out hyperspeed space travel and cryo sleep for this mission???
Yeah I'm with Zurg.
@@bertaboy9078 the concept of space travel already existed back in 2nd century AD when Lucian wrote first sci fi story called The True Story.
This movie was freaking awesome. 10/10 for sure 🤗
Fun fact, the voice of Sox is Peter Sohn and he also voices Remy’s brother Emile in Ratatouille.
Nothing against Chris Evans, but in my book, if Buzz Lightyear is not voiced by Tim Allen, he's just not Buzz Lightyear.
Clearly you’ve never seen the tv show
4:39 "Returning Back to earth 22 years later"
I'm not sure if you meant the planet, or the actual word for land "earth" but the planet that he returns to is actually Ducani Prime, sorry if you've been told this before in the comments.
Now we need a sheriff woody movie 🎥
We already know the origin of Woody, that’s pretty much what Toy Story 2 is about!
How the heck did Andy watched through that whole scene???
remember robocop
it for adults but it was marketed for kids
Kids are much smarter than you would let them on to be. I liked the fact that it shows scientific theories to kids in a simpler way.
I figured Zurg was going to be Featheringhamstan. I’m surprised they went the Old Buzz / split-timeline route
The coolest space ranger of T'kani Prime.🌟
So Chris Evans plays another character that gets thrust into the future trying to save everyone only for his closest friend to pass away due to time passage. For some reason it sounds familiar don't know why.
That's one of the reasons where I didn't find this movie original. We just saw this movie with Chris Evans.
@@noctisluciscaelum211 I think they could've taken more risks but maybe in sequel ?
@@tarushsingh1108Hopefully and maybe this time more actual aliens. Also I would be happy for a woody spin off.
@@noctisluciscaelum211 it would be even funnier if they somehow got Woody like character in it and it's played by RDJ.
How are you on this soo fast?! Film was just released today 🤣🤣
Screener copies. A lot of critics often get screener copies (digital or disc).
Bro I'm seeing this for my birthday tomorrow (June 18th) and there is already an ending explained video for it. Wtf 🤣😭
Happy early birthday 🎉
Don’t go, it’s not worth it. Watch Top Gun instead
Dude, it did say: Ending explained. You don't have to click on it.
@@supreme_zeeyus stg this has to be sarcasm
@@RamenMrvn I’m being dead serious
A missed opportunity to give Zerg a compelling backstory other than him just being the bad guy.
Super dope video 🥷
I loved this movie and cant wait for the sequel!
At last, I found a positive sounding review.
same
Sox was totally one of the best parts of the movie. LOVE YOUR CONTENT!!!
U gonna be doing episode recaps for westworld when it comes out like you did last season?
I want a Woody’s Roundup reboot voiced by Josh Brolin
What if Woody turns out to be Buzz's great great great grandfather
@@suzygirl1843 i would never watch disney again
The story of Buzz & Zurg is like Emmet on Lego Movie 2
similar, but not exactly the same the same
The science in this movie is really wrong.
Sox had the saddest movie death, left me devastated
in those 5 minutes future sox was alive i already imagined buzz adding him to the team and interacting with present sox
Id like to think that old buzz's plan all along was for the Young buzz to be praised as a hero defeating his old self.
Probably another universe the world will never know
I loved Sox! All the characters were adorable.
Thanks for this and keep up the good work.
okay when i watched this movie i got more M. Night shamalan vibes with the big reveal of who the bad guy is.
Movie did not feel like an early 90s movie, and the plot was cliche/nonsensical even for a kids movie
I think was a French kiss but it was really Suspicious when zurgs eyes turned back on
Hope there's a Sequel.
Sameeee it’s not the best movie but it’s fun asf
I mean I'm abit mixed that Zurg ended up being an Evil Future Buzz. At first, I wasn't liking it but it warmed up to me as the movie went on. I really hope that if a sequel does happen thanks to the post credit scene, Future Buzz got damaged from the crystal explosion and now he must be confined to his Zurg suit. Kinda like a Darth Vader scenario, and than on rebuilds his army to become the Emperor Buzz and the Rangers fear him to be.
Lightyear retcons the cartoon.
Thank you! This was perfect for my short attention span.😸
I'll reserve my opinion of Lightyear, until I can go watch the movie in the theatre, that will be within a few days. I did really like this review.
I think it was a fun movie. What i didn't like was the alternate time line creation. Thank you for the video.
I'm a big fan of you 🥰
8.51 ,the planet that Buzz crash on isn't earth you remember it the same planet that the big ship crash on at the the beginning of the movie ,,
It was a nice movie because it just brought back a huge amount of nostalgia, being able to see how this Buzz Lightyear started, something I always wondered back when I was a child.
Oldest Buzz aka B-Zurg by the Zyclops.
He survived the blast who knows what he might do?
Probably bad that I'm letting UA-cam shove spoilers in my face
Also just so it’s on record, my next prediction is that old buzz will turn into a cyborg, needing to become one with the suit, in order to survive space a takes revenge on young buzz.
Ya know, if PIXAR wanted to take a real, and I mean REAL chance (which I doubt they will in my life time) I'd actually kind of like to see a movie or even just a short where real Buzz is going out to a new planet and maybe meets real Woody on a planet that is still relatively primal compared to Buzz. The whole planet could be Western cowboys and stuff.
that sounds amazing honestly
We need a version of lightyear but with Woody’s roundup gang.
since time travel exists in lightyear verse. i believe there will be an alternate buzz were he went too far to the past and meets woody. and needs help from woody to get back on his time. so another diff buzz. i dunno. just my imagination
Old buzz back in time 1 week before the arrive of younger buzz with perfect fuel. If younger buzz agree back in time where he made mistake with the turnip there will be a 3 buzz lightyear in the same time line.
But if the old buzz is from alternate timeline, then how both buzzs have the same planet..plz explain.
I think it’s it was buzzes father and he just has amazing Technology that makes him look like Buzz light year!
This movie was actually pretty good
Megatron should have won, he had all the fire power and buzz had a lil laser -.-
Hawthorne's grandma tell him to keep going *
I still just don’t really get the Old Buzz part… Alternate timeline??? That’s where they lost me completely with this movie…
Don’t bother trying to figure it out, it has no thought, logic or substance. Pixar just made a generic movie and sampled buzz light year to get you story fans to watch.
It’s just future buzz from 50 yrs into the future not that difficult
Basically, he’s just from the distant future. After almost being arrested by Burnside, he escapes and hyperdrives again into the distant future. There finds a bigger ship and the Zurg suit. He travels back in time as far as he can but still needs another crystal to go far enough for his objective. That’s why he required present Buzz’s crystal
Stupid that the pilot/team doesn't know about time relativity until first years lost
I know that they have to explain to the viewers, but it's just lazzy writing
What do you expect… They have writers to send the message not actually making a good movie
They probably assumed with the first flight the time dilation would not be as long, considering it was to the local star and back.
@@giannisksanthopoulos4300 You mean learning to work as a team, that you can't do everything on your own? Weird that should be a problem.
lazzy writing?... Oh the irony.
If zurg is buzz’s father then future buzz did his mom?
Zurg isn’t Buzz’s father lol that was a Star Wars joke.
@@Binks129 Future Buzz in this movie said he “borrowed” the Zurg suit. The real Zurg could still be his father
Took my little sister and her friend for her 8th birthday and because they wanted to sit right at the front we had a whole row to ourselves. However, when things got slow they started entertaining themselves with the arm rests and crawling across the seats. Kids attention spans are a struggle but they both enjoyed it at the end of the day. I enjoyed the movie and forgot it was a movie in a movie by the end of it. I think it would’ve been funny if they put an end credit scene of that original 1995 style animated Andy having a look of awe in the cinema or something. Just to solidify how it was a movie in the Toy Story universe
Zurg is basically Thanos 😂
Voiced by Josh Brolin's dad.
I don't think this movie would have made a boy think Lightyear was heroic enough to buy a toy Lightyear. The television series did that better.
Wow what a great movie
how can they determine the time variation between twin Kelly's?
now we need to see mr and mrs potato movie.
I liked lightyear it was just cool
Can someone please explain why Burnside didn't arrest Buzz and his team?
Still dont get how he came to Aquire the ship and it’s technology. Am i to believe it was just there with no owner and no prupose?
Sacked telporting . or rediscover it in reckiged future ship. Gravity belt
Cricket Green would love this movie
So did Buzz went back to the present (past) on Tikani Prime at the end of the film since 22 years have passed?
Father of a 3 year old boy here and 1yr old daughter. We could not get the kid to watch the movie.. like at all. He will watch it and catch on about where they try to decompose or the kitty.
Definitely want this world in Kingdom Hearts 4.
