2016 was one of the most exciting and amazing years in Sports history. Warriors break the NBA most wins record, which seemed unbreakable, but then lose the Finals from being up 3-1 to guess who? Cleveland, who wins their first pro sports city title in over 60 years. Peyton Manning retires with a super bowl win, the Cubs win their first world series in 108 years, not to mention coming back from being down 3-1 as well to Cleveland. Kobe scores 60 in his last game. What a year for sports.

@Alan Craig Butler Duke was a terrible game. Both teams shot poorly and struggled to put 50 points on the board. This was a game in which both teams played great and it ended with arguably the 2 greatest shots in the history of College Basketball, the 3 made by Paige and by Jenkins just 4 seconds later to hit the first actual buzzer beating winner in championship history. The 83' game was won a dunk with 2 seconds still remaining. This game ended with the ball in the air and still in doubt.

Both teams played hard, especially nova; pressing the ball on defense the entire length of the court on at least half of the Tar Heels possessions...and they were bucket for bucket practically the entire game. This game was so entertaining that I was EXPECTING it to end the way that it did. This game was a great summary and ending to the whole season of men's college basketball.

At Kansas, Mario Chalmers' jersey was retired just a couple years ago for the 2008 shot! But he was the Final Four MOP (that's criteria for jersey retirement even if you are not an All-American at KU). I'm not sure how other schools do it, but if you make a shot in a title game to win, or go to overtime and eventually win...I think you deserve it :P But the FF MOP is what "officially" got Chalmers' jersey retired.

There maybe be nothing I am more grateful for than being a villanova fan during this tournament.
Jay Wright has built Villanova into a 2x national champion and national powerhouse at a school that doesn’t even have 7,000 students. UNC and most other big time basketball schools usually enroll about 30,000 students. Even Duke has half of that with 15,000 or so. 2021 will be the 16th time Villanova makes the tournament in 17 opportunities. If they’re a 1 or 2 seed it will be the 6th time in 7 years that they are seeded that high. If they finish ranked in the top 10 it will be the 7th time in 8 years they finish there, too. Since 2005, ‘Nova has 3 final four appearances, 6 sweet sixteen appearances, and has won 2 national championships. Villanova is also in line to finish first in the Big East for the 7th time in 8 years. They finished 2nd by one game in 2018 but went on to win the national title anyway. Remarkable.

Not me,as a Tarheel fan I’m full aware of how dangerous the Wildcats are esp in the Tournament. I first noticed it full hand when watching UNC vs Nova in 2005! Nova fought hard,played all the way through till the end but lost by a point! I’ll never forget Villanova also checked the history and learned that Nova vs UNC go way back!

I am not American and hve never seen an NCAA championship but I like the game and out of curiousity I watched this game and immediately backed Villanova, cannot explain why. Guess NC seemed stronger but I will never miss this event again! SOOooo intense and sooo exciting! Cannot wait to see If any of these young men are drafted into the League. CONGRATS!

nobody cheated? So the school made fake classes that over 300+ athletes took and that's not cheating? Even the school administration is admitting they cheated...
joe it wasn't only athletes it was the schools problem not the athletic department and the school didn't support it it was a teacher that thought that class that was messed up.
Villanova crushed all 5 of their prior opponents in the NCAA Tournament by an average margin of 28.4 points and Carolina played them dead even until the last 4 seconds. The Tar Heels should not feel humbled, but proud that they were in a championship game that was contested until the very end and will be long remembered.

It was a great game by both teams. Paige made the play of the tournament, then... Jenkins made the biggest one. There is no shame losing to Villanova and Coach Wright, my Jayhawks were stopped cold by their defense in the E8. They were a great team, so was UNC though. That's why they play the games right?
EDIT: I do believe Roy gets his 3rd title and UNC's 6th overall soon. I just wish Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison could have made their season average of free throws in 2003 against Syracuse when Williams was still at Kansas!!! :( But hats off to the Cuse, they were much deeper! And no, there is no "bad blood" from me concerning Roy Williams. He gave Kansas 15 fantastic years, then went to his Alma Mater. I'm happy Coach Williams is home and still a winner (a big winner)!

Well deserved title. Played tough teams to win it all and came through every single time. Glad Jay Wright got his elusive National Title. Such an amazing coach.

The sequence between 2:03 and 2:17 was the biggest exchange of the game. UNC had all the momentum at the end of the first half and if they convert that fast break off a turnover they go up 41-32 at half, instead a block and basket at the other end leaves it at a 5-point game and Nova carried that momentum into the second half. It will be forgotten about because of the classic final minute but that may not have ever happened without the way the first half ended.
+walterlv01 they had the momentum and if nova didnt block that layup, the prob would have lost. So close to being down by 9. Booth came back and closed the gap to 5 before the half and THAT right there... was the savior.

Villanova sure knows how TO DO IT, huh?? I thought NC STATE and Jimmy V was the biggest upset in sports history, (and greatest tournament final I've seen), followed by Villanova's 1985 win over Georgetown, but this one topped both of them for best ending!! Sorry Jimmy V, but I still LOVE YA!!!

This is why I love college basketball. I never tune in to watch the NBA, but for March Madness/NCAA I do. I just love watching the excitement of these games and the ambition of these basketball players.

As a UNC fan, it used to be impossible for me to watch this replay. The 2017 National Championship has healed the pain. It was this game that fueled UNC's "Redemption Tour" in 2017. Without losing like this in dramatic fashion, UNC would have never been driven to be 2017 champions. So thanks, I guess, Villanova.

Watching Bryce Johnson watch that final three go in just kills me. Heartbreak for UNC, but we got it the next year so there's that!
That stop and subsequent basket at the end of the half seemed kind of important for Villanova. Things were getting out of hand and Tar Heels had all the momentum and about to build a 9-point lead into halftime. Instead the Wildcats are only down 5 points. That seemed like a big sequence.

First tournament meeting between both coaches, Villanova led North Carolina 33-29 at halftime in the 2005 Sweet 16. UNC ended up winning 67-66 which was their closest game of their title run that year.

This was an absolute heart pounding game. Being a Villanova Alum ( I was there when they won in 86) I was over the moon with this victory. That said, this was two teams leaving everything on the court as they both battle hard in a see-saw affair. It’s one of those games where it is sad that someone has to lose. Kudos to NC for playing like champions.
