None of the other Jackson had the total package like Michael or Janet, they were all missing one element. Every Jackson besides Randy and Tito tried to go solo but only Michael and Janet broke through. Jackie was the only other brother that could sing, write, and dance but didn't make it big.
The other (male) siblings had already 2 musical careers with The Jackson 5 and Jacksons. Not easy to reinvent oneself after that. This is when you realize that Michael was really special. Rebbie started her family early, and Latoya wasn't really into music

Sure they were very close growing up but Janet has often said that she started to lose him in 1983/84. Even though they both were very fond of each other as adults they weren’t as close due to there careers.

Hi I don't think she felt that way. I'm pretty sure got all the credit she deserve.
As a younger fan, I vaguely remember her being a SUPERSTAR and after the superbowl she disappeared. I think the reason people still view her as just the baby sister are victims of the black balling she suffered. I bet her success was a source of both pride and relief for Michael. All the stress of being the only Jackson with significant solo success must have been daunting. It must have been nice to have someone to relate to on multiple levels.

She benefited from being a Jackson in the beginning. Like she she didn't have to pass auditions like her brothers did, and despite of the failing of her two first album, she was still giving a chance.
I don't think so. If she wouldn't have had that last name, if she weren't Michael's sister, if she would have been complete unknown from the beginning she would have had the things a lot of more difficult.....in that industry influence matters.

A lot of people like to claim that Janet rode in on Michael's coattails. But in my opinion, she had to dig herself out from under the largest shadow in entertainment history. You still can't find a single Janet Jackson video on UA-cam where she isn't compared to her brother in the comments section. No other entertainer is weighed down by such an unrealistic comparison. If riding Michael's coattails was all it took, then LaToya would be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I've never thought of her as living in Michael's shadow or riding on her brother's success.
I was there during the Control and Rythm Nation era, her videos, singing and dancing were on point. She carried her own, had her own thing and identity!

I give her credit for always being so gracious when asked about herself in comparison to her brothers. Obviously, just from this video we can see she gets asked questions about she and Michael all the time. She always handles herself with class, humility and professionalism. It’s refreshing to see.

They fought sometimes and Jermaine was jealous of Michael, but they eventually worked it all out and Jermaine became Michaels biggest supporter during both sets of false allegations. Michael didn’t hate Latoya either, and it’s been well known that she spoke against him during the false allegations because her psycho first husband forced her to say those things by threatening to hire hit men to kill Michael and Janet. Once she was finally able to escape him (with help from Marlon) she made it back to the Jackson family home and when she saw Michael, completely broke down in tears and apologized. Michael hugged her and said he forgave her because he could tell those weren’t her own words.

I always say Janet Jackson is the most interesting music act of all time because the struggles she went through to have her own identity and not being a footstep of her brothers in particularly Michael the fact Janet was able to have such a grounbreaking career while her brother dominated the industry deserve all the respect in the world.

Growing up in the 80's I had to be reminded they were related. I even saw her more because Thriller scared me so much at age 4 I couldn't never really enjoy Michael until I was older. I still get scared when I hear that song. Like deeply. Lol. It's amusing for me to observe in myself though. Loved her. She was soft and light and kinda badass all at the same time.

You know I always didn't feel right about some of his brothers being jealous and all but to look at it from their perspectives... It's always Michael Michael Michael. Well they're not Michael, or just his brothers. And even when you're not jealous you just wouldn't feel good being recognized by someone else's name. But of course, that doesn't justify or excuse anything. But like Janet said, "I'm not just Michael Jackson's sister, Michael Jackson is my brother."
