32 yrs together. Married 27. Cancer is awful. Be mindful of your time together. Be present. Be in the moment. Take care of each other. Like each other. Respect each other. Laugh together. Love each other.
Tim and I had 44 years together, then one day last winter he was gone. I thought I'd go first. Hard to listen to this song, and can't stop listening. Jason is a master at conveying the personal experience that is truly universal.
I don't know you to hug you so I'll just give your hand a little squeeze
America's greatest living songwriter.
That makes alot of sense, since all of the good song writers are british ;)
One of , if not THEE greatest love songs I've ever heard. For anyone who's living in the "days alone", my thoughts are with you.
This song makes me want to strive even harder to be the best man i can be for my beautiful wife.
In memory of my own love, who left me to listen to this heartbreaking song alone. I miss you, my darling.
I'm responsible for 2,600 of the 2,662 views.
And we had to get back to work at 62 so that makes sense! thanks for watching!
9 of that 10/10 is all Jason and we're being generous towards ourselves. Thanks for watching!
Eyyy, de acuerdo. Llvo años en Madrid y mis favoritos nunca vienen. Que tengas un buen día!
that's bullshit man...you must be a liar because I've got at least 600 of these views....HA! Damn what lyrics.
@1:00 You'll notice he gives her a single look and a nod... Then he almost never looks at her again. She stares at him the whole time.
That's because, If I were him and I suppose in a way I am, he simply can not look at her while he sings this.
Just singing this is as vulnerable as he can be, and she stays in contact with him to support him. He knows she's staring, that's enough for him.
He gives her a short glance again @1:54 , and as if she knew it was coming she wasn't staring but sent a quick smile in return.
Maybe time running out is a gift, I'll work hard till the end of my shift. To give you every second I could find and hope it isn't me who's left behind... WOW
My wife just passed due to complications of Alzheimer's. Pretty much lived those three lines. Heart breaking song
My wife laughed when she read the title and was in tears by the time it was over. Beautiful and brutal all in one song.
There are times when you hear a song and think to yourself, "Yes, that's what I wanted to say. That's what I wanted to write." This is that time for me.
There has not been a single time where I've listened to this song and it hasn't brought me to tears. It's so beautiful this is definitely one of my favorite songs now
me too. Its just so damn bittersweet. Its truth wrapped up in song. Its the way things are. He is a consummate songwriter
Don't listen to Elephant then...it makes everyone in the room have "something in their eyes."
I’m addicted to this song
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I lost my husband of 49 years in August 2021. This song rips my heart out but I play it over and over and weep.
This is as good as it gets folks. When they look back and talk about the great Americana couples it'll be Johnny and June and Jason and Amanda... Feel bad for whomever has to change the strings on that resonator though, slot headstock and a bigbsy lol.
If its like his other one it has a biscuit bridge too! :) Castle Creek Guitars in Colorado makes those Dobratos! Echo your thoughts about Jason and Amanda, they are incredible!
edgerat I believe it's the only one he has. You can see under his hand if you look close the biscuit.
yup, reckon you are right, I just re-watched the Rig Rundown and it is the same one.
in a word " Masterpiece "
I think this may be the best love song it is humanly possible to write.
This song truly resonates with me. I lost my wife this past summer after a lengthy illness. We were together for 27 years, and I wake up each day missing her more than I did when I went to bed the night before. Guess I have to add this tune to my list of "Jason Isbell songs I can't listen to without a box or Kleenex," alongside Elephant, Speed Trap Town, and Dress Blues.
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like those 27 years were spent well. Thanks for sharing.
I'm a 41 year old widower. Everytime I hear this song my beloved Heather is sitting right next to me. Thank you Jason!
In addition to being a stunning song, the production is outstanding. Hats off to the crew, fantastic sound quality, lighting and camerawork.
Thanks! Just think if Jason took his hat off beforehand too. Woof...... We kid. Love you Jason!
What a special song for a husband and wife to sing together. Absolutely stunning!
This song brings tears to my eyes. Another masterpiece.
There I go, crying at work again.
Stunningly gut wrenching. Never dreamed I would hear him top tunes like Elephant, Live Oak, Something More than Free, but I'm obviously delighted to be absolutely wrong. He keeps digging deeper in the well of human emotion. Another classic.
I love the fact that every time a comment is something along the line of "I thought I would never hear a song better than..." the songs included are all different than the next comment. Thats how good the depth of Isbell's music is. Thanks for watching!
I thought I would never hear a song better than...Travelling Alone, haha. That's a nice list of killer songs you've got there, Matthew, and Isbell apparently plans to keep building em strong . . .
To me this is the best this song has ever sounded!
1st of May, 2022.
Yes, I love this song as much.
Don't take any day for granted folks
Dear GOD. I saw the title and thought, “Oh, he’s done a funny song.” Turns out that it’s extremely profound and heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
The guy is a stone cold genius.
Juuuuuusssssst a bit outside!
It truly is an amazing song with incredible depth. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Probably the greatest song I know. It's PURE! NO GIMMICKS. NO BULL! JUST TRUTH AND EMOTION.
My home province,Prince Edward Island, held a huge country music festival last weekend; some of the biggest names in the genre have played there over a decade, and I'm more convinced every year that none of them are good enough to carry Jason Isbell's guitar.
How is this guy not a household name. Simply the greatest written song ever
Reading these comments and listening to this brings a tear to my eye and a wobble in my heart.
Almost teared up. Almost!
I'm 30, and I was raised listening to country and gospel. And in my teens I starting listening to emo and punk. And the last few years of my "adult years" listen to all of that stuff along with some other stuff but Jason Isbell is by far the best song writer that I've ever heard in my opinion. Not just lyrics but chords and progressions. He's the man!
Just when ya think this guy can't get any better.. wow, that's all
My new favorite song
It’s like the world stops spilling everytime I hear this song
your words, the gentle melody... the impact was me sobbing on my kitchen floor when my lover sent this to me--love!
Thanks for sharing. We can picture it. We couldn't get through the song dry-eyed either.
I don't know how Jason and Amanda can sing this together and not shed a few tears. Its laying out their future in very stark terms. All of our futures I suppose. I hope everyone who watch's this goes and gives their loved ones a big hug. Time is fragile and it is definitely not infinite.
Truth. Thank you Jason.
The very short clip of this song on Tv woke me up from deep sleep. Immediately I searched it up , and i can proudly say that I’m responsible for at least 1000 views as well . I’ve never heard of Jason , never seen him on tv, but that short 20 second clip just enriched my life. Amazing song! We all can relate to it!
WOW....IF THIS SONG DOESN'T PUT LIFE INTO SIMPLER TERMS than I don't know what else does ...I hope this RESONATES with other people like it has me....thank you for your talents. One of my favorite songs right now.
Jason definitely has a way with words. Few can take the depth of sadness and inject joy into it like he did.
What a devastatingly beautiful tune. It reminds me a lot of a Nolan Patton song, "The Harbor," from a few years back. Very similar melody and theme. This is simply outstanding!
How can it get any better than this. Just brilliant
Best singer/songwriter out today! ♥️☮️✨🎶🎸🙏🏻
Achingly exquisite.
I love this song.
One of the most perfectly written songs I have ever heard💜
wow. he just keeps getting better and better.
Just does not get any better than that.. ❤️
It is both wonderful, and rare, to hear someone so deeply in love perform somehing so perfectly reflective of that love, with the very object of that love. As an unapologetic romantic I am grateful, happy, and utterly overwhelmed. thank you Jason and Amanda.
So beautiful
Many thanks, this is one of greatest songs ever!
brings me to tears every time...great guy, great song
Sad song and beautiful..My newest favorite...Great studio session.
His guitar is BEAUTIFUL
It is beyond lovely, and emotionally wrenching, to hear a husband & wife sing this song to one another, contemplating the death of one or the other. Not QUITE as emotionally charged as Elephant... but right up there.
I had heard this song a half dozen times before I listened to the lyrics. Now it gives me chills.
Now this is song writing, how beautiful and it's accentuated by the glances they give each other during the song.
i will never get bored of their music...
thank you all^^
good lord. I love jason but this is just on another level. no one is even close to him in 2017
This sends a shiver down my spine.
I just found this version and one of the best. Wow.
Quite a remarkable love song
Beautiful song.
So beautiful, an instant CLASSIC. One of the best love songs ever! Love y'all!
That's one crazy cool guitar
Looks like something Son House would have been playing 60 years ago
Thanks to Amanda for being the inspiration for Jason digging deep to come up with songs that are among the best ever written.
This is a song that moves me every time. I love it to pieces.
Beautifully done by Jason
Seeing him and the 400 Unit later this year
He's brilliant and this is a great performance
GREAT!!!!
one person doesn't understand how the thumbs work
IMO, you can make an argument that this song is as good as anything JI has ever recorded. Excellent job by the studio crew. Subscribed.
90.9 The Bridge don't sell yourself short. All of y'all's videos sound pretty dang good. Bravo !!!
he has a lot of good ones. This is the 3rd one ive learned by him. last of my kind was the first, live oak I learned day before yesterday (now thats a tearjerker) and if we were vampires I got down yesterday.
Fantastic song!
The June and Johnny of this generation. They are perfectly paired for traveling down the musical road together.
I've heard this song performed a couple dozen times, this one is the best.
Seeing him in the UK in Brighton Dome in October. A truly talented musician. Loving the new album Jason!
Just an another amazing song by Isbull
incredible
Heartbreakingly lovely.
Amazing. Thanks for posting.
OH MY GOD !!! ❤️❤️❤️
a rare talent.
Legend.
Awesome
Great song
Every time I hear this song, I think 40 years is a pipe dream. My parents had 20 before my mom died. I'm getting close to that long with my husband. To be honest it scares me
I prefer this one over the album version. Such a strong, powerful, and sad song.
You should go see him in concert if you haven't already. Their stage versions blow away the album versions. Him and Sadler Vaden battle each other with guitar and slide licks. Really impressive!
And that there is why I stay single. Then I never have to be hurt for the year they are not in my life or vice versa.
Damn good song writing!
This lyrics are beautiful....
Like a poem
But when you put the music with it as well...
It's from a different world.....
Its everything I want to say but cant...
This guy goes far. Mark everyone's words.
is it too depressing to make this my wedding song?
It's not the long, flowing dress that you're in
Or the light coming off of your skin
The fragile heart you protected for so long
Or the mercy in your sense of right and wrong
It's not your hands searching slow in the dark
Or your nails leaving love's watermark
It's not the way you talk me off the roof
Your questions like directions to the truth
It's knowing that this can't go on forever
Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get forty years together
But one day I'll be gone
Or one day you'll be gone
If we were vampires and death was a joke
We'd go out on the sidewalk and smoke
Laugh at all the lovers and their plans
I wouldn't feel the need to hold your hand
Maybe time running out is a gift
I'll work hard 'til the end of my shift
And give you every second I can find
And hope it isn't me who's left behind
It's knowing that this can't go on forever
Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get forty years together
But one day I'll be gone
Or one day you'll be gone
It's knowing that this can't go on forever
Likely one of us will have to spend some days alone
Maybe we'll get forty years together
But one day I'll be gone
Or one day you'll be gone
SWEET JESUS!
That's some Gram and Emmylou harmonies right there
I don't understand why this song doesn't recieve as much attention as it should. This is undoubtedly one of the best songs a human can possibly write.
Because people these days prefer rap. Songs that makes no sense. I mean, i do enjoy some rap myself, but it's really not as good at songs like this
It really is
Jeremy, I feel the same every time Iisten to "Vampires". Jason has more than 20 other songs that, while I'm listening, I feel are the best songs ever written.
I'm 67 years old and have heard all the great songwriters. IMHO This ranks up there with any song written.
I agree, and I wonder if the title is off-putting, like it’s about horror movies or “What We Do in the Shadows.” 😉 Anyway, it’s a fine reminder not to take our time with loved ones for granted. My wife and I talk about this openly, not to be morose, but to be mindful.
