Yes, Annie Lennox!!! Not really the same kind of music but both classically trained & both kick ASS - whatever they’re singing. Pat is definitely more rock and roll and Annie more pop/alternative, etc. Love them both & they’re the best of their respective genres!
Cleanest notes, most powerful female vocalist in Rock who had more sustain in her notes than most entire bands could ever wish to have. Her abilities in utilizing so many different singing techniques is the equivalent to Pat Benatar was to singing like Eddie Van Halen was to the lead guitar. She is the gold standard for any upcoming female singer in Rock, no equal.
I remember when Heartbreaker first came out. I think the record album was actually pushing another song as a single, but it didn't take off. Heartbreaker was the song everyone requested on the radio. I think they called it a sleeper hit. There was something about the song that everyone loved. That and Hit Me with Your Best Shot were my favorite Benatar songs, though I listened to a lot of them. She had a rough edge to her voice that was unique and powerful in those song that I think appealed to a lot of people. Other songs that are worth a listen if you haven't done them yet are Hit Me with Your Best Shot, Hell is for Children, Love is a Battlefield, We Belong, and Invincible.
There were a lot of women in rock at the time. The Eurythmics, Blondie, Heart, The Runaways, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Pat Benetar fit right in and received huge air play as did all these women vocalists.
God I love her music. Women were always singing back then, "Please don't break my heart?" She sang, "Break my heart-I dare you, I'll kick your f*cking ass!"
Disagree. Different styles but both are awesome. And Janis Joplin and Linda Ronstadt are both just as amazing in their own right. Technically, Benatar has the best voice of any of them.
She's always had an amazing voice, and you know what makes this even greater (or any great vocalist from the 70s and before) : NO AUTOTUNE, No computer bullshit trafficking the voice, making crappy singers today sound good.... if it can be qualified as good. Great job guys!
Agree with everything you guys are saying. It's always nice to listen to a song you've heard so many times and hear it through someone else's ears so to speak. It's like listening to it the first time!
I can't believe this song only made it to #23 on the charts - so I guess she didn't take the world by storm until the 1980's with 'Hit me with your best shot' and then 'Love is a Battlefield' and all her MTV videos... in 1979 it was still all about DISCO (The Bee Gees, Donna Summer, The Village People, Chic) FUNK (The Commodores), SOFT ROCK / COUNTRY (Neil Diamond, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Rod Stewart).
Pat's voice is killer...honestly, Lizzy Hale from Halestorm reminds me of Pat Benatar a lot...that range, the power, the grit..the attitude that comes out in her vocals
Joan Jett is a queen rocker!! From her time with Lita Ford with the band "The Runaways" - she was a force. She was told rock wasn't for women so she started her own label. "I Hate Myself For Loving You" 🔥 "Bad Reputation" "Do You Wanna Touch Me" & "I Love Rock & Roll" are BANGERS!! Give JOAN JETT her dues in this conversation, guys!!
100% agree. She is not a female standard of Rock music, she is a standard of Rock music period. I saw her open up for Robert Plant in '88 on the Now and Zen tour and she blew them off the stage. She , and her killer band were tremendous.
YES YES YES! Pat and Joan are my two fave lady rockers from that time in my life. Preteen/teen years. Hell Is For Children by Pat Benetar is amazing too.

She now opens the door for so many contemporary singers, and they owe her a hell of a debt. I grew up listening to Pat Benatar and many others of her generation back then. They use to call her the “90 pound stick of dynamite”
That's an amazing description.
INDEED THEY DID!!!!!!!
Five foot nothing.
One song that gets overlooked by Pat Benatar is "Everybody Lay Down", which she did later in her career. She belts out that song so hard, I don't know how her voice doesn't give out. Great, great song with some attitude!
The guitarist is her husband - still married to this day!
Dude on the left needs to STFU.
Pat’s the GOAT no question, hands down. Nice reaction guys!✌🏼🎸 Wuthering Heights is another song that highlights her fantastic vocals! She is married to Neil Geraldo, the lead guitarist. Neil writes the music to her lyrics, and really knows how to “marry” the music to her voice. ❤️
IMO she's thee best female rock artist/vocalist of all time...period🔥🔥🔥
I used to play this song with an all girl band and i enjoyed it so much. It is a super fun song to play, heavy and the audience went nuts every time
She came just as the disco era was dying and I remember hearing this when I was in middle school and thinking that rock was back an disco was dead, lol!
MTV was still new, they showcased her and the band. The powerful vocals with the gorgeous visuals was a winning combination..
Have y’all listened to any Linda Ronstadt?!?!?! She’s incredible!
She sure is ! .. She could sing any style and do it brilliantly .. When it came to rockers, I really love her "How Do I Make You", and others like "Tumbling Dice", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", and "I Can't Let Go".. Just too many to mention .. Wayne
Man, this tune has stood the test of time!
“You’re No Good” is my favorite.
@@headlibrarian1996 great tune! When Will I be Loved is my personal fave though
Even her desperado cover lives in my head and my play lists more often than the eagles (no disrespect to the eagles)
Neil is so underrated. Just a truly amazing musician. Great guitarist. I've seen Pat and Neil in concert twice. Amazing stuff.
She has the pipes and she has the passion. Also, she's damn hot!
The craziest thing about Pat is she's the size of the pencil on my table, but she has the voice of a cannon. I don't even know where that sound comes from.
Two more from Pat to check out. "You Better Run" and "We Belong."
Oh you better run!!!!!
🎵Run Like Hell🎶🎶
We Belong is one of my favorite songs ever!
You Better Run - 2nd video ever played on MTV.
Your instincts are right. She rose quickly on radio and the charts. From 1979 to the late 80's she and her band were extremely popular.
I saw her in person....she was awesome every song and time..., my favorite song is "Promises in the dark".
Pat Benatar is an outstanding vocalist!!!!! Hands down on of my favorites!
Back in the day I always thought of Pat Benatar as the Ronnie James Dio of female rock.
The guitarist coming into the band is what made them blow up so quick. Her and Neil had chemistry from day one. You can hear it in how they flow together, and are still doing it to this day.
Her hubby, Neil Geraldo, is a top notch guitar player, too. He's also from my hometown, Cleveland, Ohio.
A fellow Parma High alumni
@@adamschulte4119 He also had a paper route and delivered to friends from my church. Lol.
No doubt about it. Pat Benatar is a BADASS.
Bonnie Raitt’s “I cant make you love me” is almost mandatory guys! It’s an all time classic.
That song literally breaks your heart when you listen to it. Great song!
SEXIEST VOICE EVAAAH!!!
She killed that song.
Fire..YES!
This entire album is fire. 4 songs are covers, and they're awesome. I have all her albums on vinyl here at home. I've been listening to her since I was like 5, and I STILL get goosebumps every time I listen to her.
When this came out I wore that cassette out....the album is full of great songs
Had the 45.
Ty so much. Ive been begging all reactors to play this for a yr. U r right pat benetar rocks. She was my fav when I was 15. And she still my fav. Also Joan Jett, Stevie nicks, janis joplin
Y'all need to watch NPR's Tiny Desk concert with Pat Benetar and her husband acapella..she still has it after all the years...
This is the most genuine reaction channel in the whole history of UA-cam reaction channels.
Been watching these guys for many years. Lots of others reaction channels followed, but none as great as Ryan and George for appreciating the music.
Eurhythmics/Annie Lennox: Do Would I Lie To You as a starter. Love Annie!
Yes, Annie Lennox!!! Not really the same kind of music but both classically trained & both kick ASS - whatever they’re singing. Pat is definitely more rock and roll and Annie more pop/alternative, etc. Love them both & they’re the best of their respective genres!
Annie gets over looked she does have some really good stuff
Would I Lie To You. Perfect song. Great Video too!
Annie Lennox - Walking on Broken Glass
Cleanest notes, most powerful female vocalist in Rock who had more sustain in her notes than most entire bands could ever wish to have. Her abilities in utilizing so many different singing techniques is the equivalent to Pat Benatar was to singing like Eddie Van Halen was to the lead guitar. She is the gold standard for any upcoming female singer in Rock, no equal.
Promises in the Dark. Quintessential PB. Great voice and great guitar by PBs husband Nick.
She made every young girl of the time feel like anything was possible!
There were a lot of women in rock at the time. The Eurythmics, Blondie, Heart, The Runaways, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Pat Benetar fit right in and received huge air play as did all these women vocalists.
God I love her music.
Women were always singing back then, "Please don't break my heart?"
She sang, "Break my heart-I dare you, I'll kick your f*cking ass!"
She was classically trained and had to "learn"how to sing hard! She calls her husband Spider. 😆
Listen, she is amazing... Ann Wilson runs circles around her vocally.
Run circles? Please. Complete equals. GTFOH with that.
@@maceomaceo11 nope, and it isn't close.
Disagree. Different styles but both are awesome. And Janis Joplin and Linda Ronstadt are both just as amazing in their own right. Technically, Benatar has the best voice of any of them.
@@WhizzingFish12 you're allowed to be wrong.
She's always had an amazing voice, and you know what makes this even greater (or any great vocalist from the 70s and before) : NO AUTOTUNE, No computer bullshit trafficking the voice, making crappy singers today sound good.... if it can be qualified as good. Great job guys!
Amen. From mic to tape.
If you ever watch a live version of this time period of Pat Benatar's band pay attention to the drummer. His showmanship is off the chart.
Agreed Pat Benatar is the Queen of power and attitude. And fine as hell.
“Cherry Bomb” by the Runaways
They need to listen to some Halestorm, Lizzy is incredible.
Agree 💯💥✌
Joan is great, but not Pat great. She is the epitome of rocks bad girl though saw JJ a couple of years ago, showing her age but still a great show.
She is one hell of a 1970's rocker.
I am so glad you are discovering one of the greatest voices in rock. She has no match as far as I'm concerned. She now opens the door for so many contemporary singers, and they owe her a hell of a debt. I grew up listening to Pat Benatar and many others of her generation back then. I was a teenager during the 80s, so I'm thankful I could experience all of this growing up. I'm so glad you are discovering what actual singing is and what true rock and roll is keep it up. Promises in the dark is another one of my all-time favorites of hers. I think it shows her vocal range probably the best.
May I recommend The Pretenders with Chrissy Hines. Love your show, guys!
Chrissie Hynde 🤦♂️
OH YES!!!! And PATTI SMITH
The whole band are great. Myron on the drums is a ball of energy. Reminds me of Keith Moon.
Yeah she broke out as MTV was breaking out, great timing.
Cool video guys. Pat is the best female rock vocalist ever in my book. Thanks to her talented husband for writing some really great tunes as well. Pat was one of the very first on MTV as well and she pretty much ruled the airwaves throughout the 80's
React to Triumph- Fight the Good Fight (live Halifax) u guys will love it
Love Triumph - I’d choose “Lay it on the Line” - one of my very fave tunes of all time.
@@michellecole13 it doesn’t matter which song they prefer, the whole concert is amazing. But yeah lay it on the line is as perfect as fight the good fight:)
Criminally underrated band
I Love this! Your reaction to the amaxing Pat Benatara and her amazing band mates is spot on perfection!!! She is my favorite female rock vocalists of all time. Hands down!! You guys rock for giving her and her band th is well deserved spotlight!!!❤🎶🎸🎤👏👏
The Queen of Rock and Roll without a Doubt...
Always crack me up listening to music I grew up with! Thanks for the great uploads. Agreed on her band. They're a tight unit.
"What a fuckin' rock song!"
Pat Benatar's music helped to shape my teen years to some extent, and brings back some lovely memories. I never had the opportunity to see her live during the 70s/80s, but did receive the chance in the early 90s, when she performed a free show in Albany, NY. She was absolute fire, and this time, my young son was there to enjoy her music with me as well.
I would absolutely love to hear more of her on your show, and thank you for giving Ms. Benatar a shot.
Always liked her song "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" the most.
Pat is a tiny stick of dynamite! And she can still wail! I saw her just a couple of years ago & she was amazing!
Gotta try Joan Jett guys, she's 80's a "pop"y but a lot of fun.
Agreed!! My dad and I saw her in 2019 with Heart. THEY. WERE. AWESOME!!!
Joan Jett is my favorite! I'm a big fan of Pat as well!
I was 16 years old going to my first concert in 1982.....Pat Benatar and Ratt. It was a great way to start off my concert going over the years. You should have heard her live, it was awesome! The guitar player is her husband of 40 years.
