  • In this video, I'll share my entire DIY EG4 mini split installation process in order to run ac with solar. You'll see how easy it was to set up. This system cools and heats well. You can set it up even without special tools or experience. I'll walk you through each step, from unboxing to powering on, and highlight the key things you need to know.

    Very cool! I buy and restored historic houses and I have been doing all my own HVAC, Electrical and plumbing for years. I have an old 1870’s church I want to completely power with solar electricity and this video was very inspiring.

    Best part about mini splits in Texas is if you have multiple units and one goes out, you arent completely without AC! I absolutely LOVE having mini splits and would never go back to central. These DIY style units make life so easy when installing! I could probably knock one out in an hour or two by myself now that ive put in a few of them. Looks great and i know yall will enjoy it! Id love to see a follow up on hooking up the solar, how many watts, etc and how it performs! If you havent noticed, you definitely have my interest with this setup!

      I agree 100% on having multiple units. That’s one reason I used to advocate for window units. I’ll do a solar panel hookup video soon.

    Do you have a video installation for the solar panels wire? For the 7 panels from signature solar?

      Not yet but plan to get one out soon

      @@EastTexasHomestead do you know if the connection is on series or parallel?

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  15 днів тому

      @@bmodllc In almost every case, it will be series for this unit.
      Series will increase the voltage while keeping the amps the same. Parallel would swap that and give you way more amps than the unit can handle (12, I believe) while not providing enough voltage.

    With an open wall, I'm hoping I can run the line set down the inside of the wall and come out low on the outside of the building to connect to the condenser. It's a standard 4" thick wall, so I hope that's enough to bend the tubing down from the head unit and out the wall toward the bottom to the condenser.

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  28 днів тому

      Never considered that but it may work if there aren’t too many bends

      @@EastTexasHomestead I'm going to give it a try with a piece of drywall big enough for the head unit and then I'll finish with insulation and drywall everywhere else. I may drop another comment with how it goes. Cheers

    What’s the least amount of solar it runs on?

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  25 днів тому

      Good question. It (the big 24K unit i have) uses between 190W and 2250W. Most of the time it is running around 1000W. So you will need to get enough solar to get it to do what you want. I'd say you want at least 600W. The DC voltage needs to be between 90 and 380 VDC. All this to say, you could get by ok with a couple of good panels but you will likely want more.

    Can that unit work both AC/DC?

    • @EastTexasHomestead
      @EastTexasHomestead  5 днів тому

      It can!
      It will use as much DC as is available and supplement with AC as needed. You can also tell it to limit the ac and just run with the available DC.
