Faith Prince is so vivacious, as Dolly Levi was. The song is about her pulling herself out of the deeper levels of grief to reclaim her life, and her true self. To me this song encapsulates the journey Dolly takes in the story.
The song is really written for someone who is older. It doesn't really work when someone young sings it. The whole point of the song is someone who wants one more chance at love before they die - John Barrowman's parade hasn't passed by yet - so he's not right for the song.
Good lord - this really shows just how limited of a singer Barrowman is. Technically he is no better than a mediocre pop singer and makes some very obvious mistakes displaying his limitations. I never got just what the big deal was with him anyway.

Marin is so fabulous!!! I would love to hear her sing this entire song!!! It's my favourite Jerry Herman song......
He is youg, because he is happy in his mind and his heart. He is a great singer.
This is from a Boston Pops performance, A Tribute to Jerry Herman, from May 2003
And just why hasn’t Faith Prince played Dolly?
2001 I think...
