This guy is the perfect example of what the game industry does not need. He's just a business man, he came from the Office division and don´t know nothing about games. Around July 2003, there´s a discussion about the release of Halo 2. Ed Fries, who was responsible for the internal MS studios at the time, just put in the table that Bungie needs more time to finish Halo 2. Fries said " We could wait until Christmas, 2004, and do the game right, screw the fiscal year and ship one of the best products ever made" while Robbie Bach wants the game to be finished by April 2004. So Bach says to Ed Fries that " The needs of the platform outweighed the needs of any one game".
This series really needs more views. I really love the insight into the gaming industry, but I'm afraid it's gonna get canceled since it's not as popular as the other content.
This inspired me to buy the book and so far I love it from the whitty opening of a class reunion to the fascinating breakdown of the three Ps! Pity Robbie's website doesn't ship outside of the US would have liked to give to charity in this way
3rd time watching this video. going through withdrawals after E3, so going back and watching as much Microsoft and Xbox content as I can. Ed Fries is next. UNFILTERED is the best show on youtube
This is awesome, fantastic insights and nice feature ;D Please, keep this running. Even if the majority of gamers wont notice this - I really really enjoy this kind of video ^-^
Thank the game gods for Phil Spencer and what his team has done to correct all the wrongs that Don Mattrick did to the Xbox One. Don Mattrick and his Kinect push nearly destroyed the Xbox brand. Don Mattrick new Nothing about the video game business and even less about what gamers wanted. Xbox Live is still the best online console ecosystem and I like both my PS4 and Xbox One but I still prefer the Xbox controller over any game controller ever created.
I like what you're doing what I hope to see some non-Xbox guests or someone from the PS side use their contacts. If memory serves correctly there has been one non-Xbox episode, Sean Murray for No Man's Sky. I know that Ryan has Xbox contacts but an he use his colleagues contacts or interview the CEO of IGN, could be interesting to hear secrets from IGNs past.
had the xb1 been a gaming console and on spec as the 360 in it's time, $499 would've been fine. However, because there was no justification for the cost for xb1 and the reveal was so weird it did not instill confidence in the gaming community. which is already very finicky. Anyway, the new challenge is to get the xb1x moving. $499 is high relatively speaking. Still a great value, but stands alone at that cost. So there is work to be done. Xbox brand and team is for the gaming community though that is for sure.
I like listening to the interesting people on Unfiltered but the interviewer just puts words into peoples mouths and his Xbox fanboyism just makes certain things inappropriate.
I absolutely love these Xbox interviews. So interesting to hear the history of my favorite console.
Thank you so much for this interview, and for the whole series! Fingers crossed for J Allard
Probably the best series on IGN, keep it up Ryan.
These interviews are incredible. Thank you Ryan.
These interviews deserve way more views, they are so great.
Huge fan of your work at IGN Ryan. Keep up the great work :-]

Omg I thought I was the only one that liked both consoles. People need to see this comment as it shows that both consoles are great.
Natal looked way cooler
ClapTrap 409 it worked to a certain degree, but the core audience yes don't want that bs

Everyone knows jack Trenton
Who else is getting annoyed with the air heads bite size ads 😡
when you realize Frank West's forehead is almost as big as MrTLexify's
+Tom Riddler makes enough sense to me
why always interview Xbox guy?
Maybe PS guys declined?
Ryan was part of the Official Xbox Magazine, and like he says in the interview, he knew the guy. Most of his connections are likely on that side.
