    Fine Art TV Series - Colour In Your Life
    Season - 09
    Episode - 06
    Filmed on Location at - Murwillumbah, NSW Australia
    Born Ernest Ashley Dingo on 31 July 1956, at Bullardoo Station, Ernie was the second child of nine, with three brothers and five sisters. He grew up in Mullewa, Western Australia with his family, and originates from the Yamatji people of the Murchison region. He went to Prospect Primary and then Geraldton High School.
    Ernie came to acting after moving to Perth and meeting Richard Walley. With a distinguished career as an actor and presenter in film and television, Ernie also promoted the Generation One ‘Hand Across Australia’, which was a promotion for Indigenous equality. In collaboration with Richard Walley, he also created the controversial ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony in Perth in 1976, after dancers from the Pacific Islands would not perform without one.
    Ernie’s film career began in the early 1980s and he appeared regularly on screen through the 1990s. He appeared in Bruce Beresford’s 1987 drama ‘The Fringe Dwellers’ and worked on the 1988 docu-drama biopic ‘Tudawali’. He had a major supporting role in the international comedy blockbuster ‘Crocodile Dundee II’ in 1988. He appeared as himself in the 1989 comedy ‘Capuccino’ and had a major role in the 1991 Wim Wenders film ‘Until the End of the World’. In 1993 he starred in ‘Blackfellas’ and he had a lead role in 1996’s ‘Dead Heart’. In 1998 he starred in ‘Somewhere in the Darkness’. In 2010 he returned to the silver screen with a role in the Aboriginal musical ‘Bran Nue Dae’ along with Jessica Mauboy and Geoffrey Rush.
    Ernie has hosted the television program The Great Outdoors since 1993, also appearing in many Australian television series such as Blue Heelers, The Flying Doctors, Heartbreak High and Rafferty’s Rules. He appeared in the TV mini-series’ The Cowra Breakout (1984), A Waltz Through the Hills (1987), (for which he won an AFI Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama) and Kings in Grass Castles (1997), as well as co-starring with Cate Blanchett in the Australian television drama series Heartland.
    In 1990, Ernie was made a Member of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his service to the performing arts.
    Despite his extensive film and television career, Ernie’s other passion lies in art, being able to express himself and his journeys in life through creative means. Through painting, Ernie expresses his love for his Aboriginal culture, the memories of his people and country. Each Horizon painting tells a story of places unknown and journeys to be taken.

      Thanks Melinda, we have some huge changes happening with the web site in the coming months. We have a new membership portal opening up, we have got to the stage where we simply have to charge a membership fee for some services, the site will still be free for everyone that comes in but if they want the other benefits, one of which will be going in a draw for a free show, valued at $5,500 and many other great offers as well. Would like to work with you if you have time to help us spread the word, hope all is well, Graeme

    Graeme -
    Just to let you know that you are already enjoyed across the globe. We sold our home (not the one in this picture) last spring and spent 6 months living in our Airstream (yes, the one in the picture). We had no cable for the whole time and really, never missed it! News is always a reminder of the bad in the world and I prefer to focus on the good, the inspiring, the "colour in my life".
    So, in my small little space, I had one area with my basic art supplies hidden away and every morning I watched an episode of your UA-cam sessions. This inspiration kept me going all summer and I found so many new techniques and pumped out more art than I have in a very long time. It will be a highlight in my life... a summer of unique creativity!
    We bought our new home in October and with the moving and unpacking I have not gotten back into that "grove". Ernie has pushed some creative buttons again and I feel the need to document my colorful life in a way that has similar beauty... I happen to have one piece of 300 lb watercolour paper that will just do the trick!
    I thank you for the many many youtubes that you have put online and I look forward to your in-roads into the USA and anywhere else you focus. I also thank your Auzzie artists for being so generous to share their vast knowledge... I have so many favorites.

    Wonderful story behind the art, I think it really adds to the piece as well as making the viewer contemplate his own story. I also tried to go to Ernie's webpage but it says erniedingo.com is a parked domain. I hope this is just for updates as I am looking forward to seeing more of his work.

    OMG! I've watched loads of PSCIYL episodes but when I saw the picture for Ernie's work I had to watch it! His waves of colour mirror my own! Not exactly of course, but it was like finding a soulmate! Hi Ernie - your video had a huge impact on me - what do the spots signifiy in your culture?

    HI Graeme
    I can't believe you get no funding or sponsorships in Australia. So sad.
    Love the show - I only stumbled upon it recently.
    Cheers

      Thats Australia Jo, its always been that way here, but luckily we have companies in America and the UK that want to be a part of this idea, its just so strange sometimes that we don't see opportunities in this country. Hopefully it wont disappear completely from the airways here

    • @AnnaliesaRose
      @AnnaliesaRose 9 років тому +1

      Graeme Stevenson (Colour in Your Life) catafinity It is very sad that the arts both visual and performing are undervalued by the politicians in this country yet we have so many talented artists. I am saddened though that Australia Council don't give you any grants that is stupid but at least you would get something for putting it on TV wouldn't you? Anyhow Thankyou for sharing this, I love Ernie Dingo. xx

    • @ColourinyourlifeAu
      @ColourinyourlifeAu  9 років тому +1

      Annaliesa Rose It is what it is, generally money is given away to people that just squander it or have no future vision for the Arts, but no matter we have had great interest from America. So once again a good idea here will eventually leave the shores and head else where. We are not bothered anymore. Thats just Australia its always been like that here

    Great colours.
    I was wondering why he doesn't use watercolour paints instead of watering down acrylic paints?
    I was told that the acrylic paints where compromised too much if it's mixed with too much colour and a liquid medium is needed to keep the acrylics not compromised.

    • @ColourinyourlifeAu
      @ColourinyourlifeAu  9 років тому

      It seems to work OK Debbie,
      and it suits Ernies style, we hope to get some more well know celebs that paint as we go along. I have heard Geoffrey Rush and Barry Humphries paint, lets see what we can do, Graeme

    • @rdouthwaite
      @rdouthwaite 9 років тому +1

      Debbie,
      In an attempt to answer your question I can only offer my experience with using watercolour and acrylics.
      When painting on a substrate like canvas and in an oil painting kind of style i.e. where the paint sits as a film on top of the substrate then it is true that heavy dilution with water does compromise the integrity of the acrylic binders and will eventually lead to failure.
      When painting on paper however I have found that in diluting the acrylic in the same way as Ernie does the results are satisfactory and, to date, seem pretty stable. I think this is probably due to the way the paper allows the pigment to be drawn down into the surface of the substrate.
      As an experiment (and I know this works) paint an patch of watercolour and a patch of acrylic of similar dilution onto water colour paper, let them dry fully and then run them under the shower and scrub with a nail brush. I'll wager the acrylic will barely notice but the water colour will end up down the drain!
      Apologies for the verbose comment, I hope it helps.

      ***** they are professional quality australian made paints by Mattisse! they have different grades in the series, (but i dont think they are made to be thinned like water colours).
