    We all know that the perfect dream car for many of us is an AE86 GT-APEX, Panda, with a 20V 4A-GE, carbon fiber hood and of course the infamous tofu shop sign on the sides!

    They may be crude but they are very effective. I agree a well set up N/A is truly an engine and noise to behold but they are hard to get right and just don't give the power that some people need.

    hills in my town are HUGE and any car struggles especially turbo cars that dont make low end power or any torque, i would pull till his turbo kicked in and then he would have to shift rite away and it would start all over again, unlike my car that can pull uphill in 5th at 30mph doin a little over 1k rpm and im on 27" mud tyres with a 1.5" lift engine is stock but rebuilt recently by me.

    Most testers are getting the GT86 to 60 in around 6.5 secs. I owned a 2000 Celica GT-S new, and that engine was almost impossible to boost because of high compression. (without direct injection). A company called Dynosty just made 324 whp turbocharging a GT86 with stock internals and a mostly stock exhaust.

    jst as 6th gen Chaser JZX100 was built frm 96 to 00,AE86 (chassis code for Levin) was built frm 83 to 87.In AE, A means it came wit A series engines, E is code for corolla given by toyota for all rolla models,8 stands for the E80 series corolla and 6 represented the different varieties offered, eg. the hatchback GTV & GT Apex, 2door GT & GT Apex, optional LSD etc. So Hachi Roku means the E80 series Corolla Coupe, only GT versions.whereas Hachis stand for all kinds of E80 series corolla evr made

    If you have a properly sized turbo or a sequential setup lag should be minimal. Look up some BMW N54 dyno results with JB4, DP, larger IC, and BMS DCI, and W/M injection. 430WHP and 490WTQ. Huge torque from bottom through the mid range, runs a bit out of breath at the top but still.

    I suppose it's all relative. By today's standards (which is how it should be measured) the car is light. The 2000 Celica GT-S was about 150lbs lighter which is the lightest car I've personally driven, but the AE86, 1st Gen Miata, and are quite a bit lighter, so it depends on your experience I suppose.

    Keep in mind the AE86 was made in years other than 1986. Most people that refer to these cars will commonly just call them "Hachis" for short. And WRXDEMON is right, learn before you ran.

    I was implying bout both the cars engines in stock format. when it comes to tuning ppl hav made their R34s go faster thn veyrons in a quarter mile.The point is whn car manufacturing giants like Toyota and Subaru collaborates to come up with something new, then you expect a car thats fast and strong like a 2JZ-GTE with the handling of a STI CS400. i kno they wanted to make a RWD affordable coupe but even the turbo SW20 can out perform the gt86. its performance shud hav been as gud as its looks :)

    Power to weight isn't everything either, lighter cars can carry more speed through corners. The FRS doesn't feel any faster than a Miata does, but the Miata feels a lot more stable. I would try to compare the FRS to an AE86 but there is no point since I would be comparing a stock FRS to a track tuned 86 and obviously any track prepared car will feel faster, and I'm sure a prepared FRS would feel a lot more stable than a factory one, but stock it doesn't feel very light at all.

    They're not getting crap in the way of real power out of that thing without changing the pistons. Remember, it came out 12 years ago! Nobody was touching that thing with a 10 foot pole the first few years it came out because the compression was just too high. The 1ZZ got more turbo love within the first two years than it did lol! The 2ZZ was fun in stock form, but a dog in the aftermarket! Maybe that's changed over the last decade, but it's too little too late. Hardly anybody cares about it now!

  • @JanMichaelFranklin
    @JanMichaelFranklin 12 років тому

    The power to weight ratio of the FR-S is actually better than the AE86, so you're basically just wrong. The Supra weighed 700 lbs more than the FR-S so, you're just wrong about that too. I do agree that it could use more power though.

    This is not completely fair to be honest, these days it is impossible for a manufacturer to keep a car this light, simply because of all the stuff that is on cars these days, but also largely due to increased safety, which really adds weight to a car. 1200 kg is definitely not heavy for a new car. And let's not forget the specs of the original US AE86 (GTS), 112 hp and a weight of around 1000 kg, doesn't look impressive on paper either, but it was a base for cool things, just like the new one.

    again,I respect your opinion. But I doubt(unless you are talking driving skill here) that your outback wagon is beating ANY wrx(unless there is engine problems) trust me I have a Subaru Legacy L *got mine for 1500 :-(*. But what I mean is for as much money as you put in trying to hook up that N/a for speed or what EVERy you are doing 2 it, you would spend half that in getting a turbo or a turbo engine . If you don't beleive me just look it up! Sure you have to wait for it 2 spool up but hey ...

    Oh my god really?! turbo vs N/A? N/A= reliable, longer lasting, power that doesnt all of a sudden kick in at once and cause loss of traction, sounds great. Turbo= pinnacle of making power, neck-breaking acceleration, boost by gear for optimal traction (rare), typically have more hp per liter which creates weight-loss, sounds great. You feud over an opinion based argument on youtube??

  • @Damon6666

    O man nice car and shop. But I told my self if I EVER get this car Trash the engine and pop on in a SR20(hell Even a CA18DET*isn't it legal in us*)! For as much as your going 2 spend trying 2 hook-up the old N/A AE86 engine my as well get a engine with some turbo out the box possiblilities of power! And I know,why not use the supra engine,but I think sr20 is a little cheaper(hell I know that ca18det is darn near cheap). But thats my 10 cents
