The following year, at Mid Wales Folk/ May Festival, Chris sang this for me by request on a borrowed guitar that he wasn't sure he was going to give back. Wonderful.
Isn't it fabulous! 'BristolRon' you are a national treasure.. not unlike Chris and Andy.. how wonderful to find this.. its made my year and its only february :-)
This is the only version I've heard with the lovely verse, "But if all you young girls were like my own true lover, all you young men would love them as I love her." The young woman sitting behind Chris and Andy looks like actress Dawn Steele.
I love a few things about this version. It appears to be the same club as Martin Carthy doing Famous Flower of Serving Men which can easily be found on UA-cam. I also just love this version of the song. I always felt that other versions were just too sad, too minor. This has it just right.
I so love this! Am trying to play this in standard tuning but it's not quite working. Have cracked it playing in C at fifth fret,YAY!😊 Not quite like Chris though!
Now this is how music should be performed, intimate and heartfelt.
Wonderful combination of instruments... Charming performance... Divine tunes... Great tradition...
This is close to perfection! I would pay money to travel across the world to listen to this live. Thanks BristolRon!
I knew Chris Wood had some previous before the solo albums. How good to hear something I'd never heard before - this is superb.
This is just beautiful. Lovely song - but the tune afterwards is so wonderfully done.

OMG!!!!! Thanks so much for you shared this, love their music so much!!!!
Perfection. I can only imagine the 4 dislikes are because people wanted it to be longer.
The melodeon tune is Elizabeth Claire by Andy Cutting - so beautiful
