    I just came across this type of house today. This is so cool! My wife and I might have this built out in Arizona. Very energy efficient. Otherwise we were originally looking at an Arched Cabin... But this is even better. 👍

      There is a GMH somewhere in Arizona. They use to have a web page, however due to an illness with his wife he removed it for privacy. There is also one just east of Albuquerque NM.

      Every home will be different depending on floorplan. I havent been on their website in awhile, the prices and floorplans use to be there.
      My model cost about $130000 for the plans, fiberglass shell, fasteners (nuts & bolts as well as adhesive) and fill material for the fiberglass seams. PLUS shipping from Mexico about $30-40,000. Additional costs are everything you need for a house.
      I expect to be in for about $400 - $470,000 before I finish. That includes (the wife pretty much went top of the line) all appliances, furniture, HVAC, fireplace, windows, Panoramic doors.... etc etc.

    I've been trying to figure out the answer to my question, and I haven't seen any info on it yet. What do you do with the interior shell walls? What do you put on them to cover the seams? I guess you can't drill into them to hang a picture.

    • @dustyn4970
      @dustyn4970 Рік тому

      No you can’t drill into them as that would mess up the waterproofing. You have two options either live in a plastic shell or go in and use small studs glued in place to then attach drywall to which then would allow you to paint and do normal house stuff with.
      Honestly beside the overall cost to buy and build one that has always been the big draw back for me on these houses. Those curves would be a pain to get right. There is a video series on UA-cam of a guy doing it if you dig for it.

    • @roymorse3533
      @roymorse3533  Рік тому

      They provide a poly material and fiberglass fiber to fill the seams. The interior walls are paintable, BUT you need a good primer and the temps must be above 50-60° or you risk peeling. The paint won't adhere if the fiberglass is too chilled.
      The instruction manual from GMH covers most of your questions. Of course you don't see those until you buy...

    • @roymorse3533
      @roymorse3533  Рік тому

      As for using the exterior walls, yes you can use them.... however you need to know before you seal them. You'll need to add reinforcements to the outside AND make sure it's waterproofed. Example is electrical on exterior walls... you are provided fiberglass boxes you attach to the exterior after cutting the mounting hole. You run conduit outside to the box just like any other electrical setup.

    Hi, Roy. Thank you for the walk. I am thinking at purchasing one as well. Have you had any issues with the delivery or the plans? Do they recommend either a coat of paint or polyurethane foam on top of the structure before applying the soil? Thank you

    • @roymorse3533
      @roymorse3533  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely. You need to seal the fiberglas shell. Fiberglass is porous and water and soils will eventually cause deterioration and leaks.
      GMH recommends a coating of poly or some other coating to protect. That should also be applied prior to your Close Cell foam insulation installation. Then I applied 8 or 10 mil plastic before the soil.
      I had a few delays and issues. However in my case most were due to COVID and the international shipping from Mexico through Miami customs.
      Plans are very detailed for the most part. I also had pieces that were mislabeled. Caused a few minor issues.

    Hey, I got quotes from a distributor in 2013 or 2014 for Colfibrex homes. They were pretty similar buildings and I believe it’s the same company under a new name. Back then they were talking $10,000 for their smallest version and I think that’s something I’d be interested in. I’m wondering if I can find a distributor that I can talk to and new quotes for the small ones.

      Still remaining: one bathroom, complete the mudroom, Master Suite, cover the shell, complete radiant floor heating, paint interior.
      Updated video is being worked on.

    • @roymorse3533

      I can't answer the entire question yet. BUT; in subzero temps we kept warm enough with three small space heaters in the great room and occasionally with the fireplace.

      I believe I am the last individual in the US who was sold directly from GMH and not "required" to use a GMH certified builder.
      I started my build in the summer of 2020. I still had an open shell through the 1st winter. Which goes from Oct to March or April up here. Not a lot of time to get stuff done for just a couple people.

    • @roymorse3533
      @roymorse3533  Рік тому

      I paid for everything. Financing the initial purchase and assembly was difficult in the US. There isn't enought history for most conventional financial institues.
      After enclosing the house, I was able to get a bank loan from a small rural bank.
