    Sound volume is a little low, but I found I could get a vast improvement on Windows, by enabling 'Loudness Equalisation' in 'Speakers properties', 'Enhancements' within the 'Sound' applet of the 'Control Panel'. However, this remains a truly excellent tutorial. I have subscribed and will be watching more of these. You could find yourself enjoying a coffee shortly...

    1. The analogy with teams is understood. But you should draw parallels from teams to real-life DNS more verbose. It's not clear now. I'm compelled to watch some other video to understand.
    2. What is Zone I didn't understand.
    3. Thanks for hosts file explanation. This part was good

    Nice explanation & analogy. Easy to understand. I have a question though. That is - How does client know that the person's contact I am asking to BIll belongs to that particular team(say team B)?

    • @stevecope
      @stevecope  3 роки тому +2

      The teams are the domain names. So when you ask for a person you are asking for a person in a team not just the name but name +team, In dns
      abc.com is the domain name and www.abc.com is a machine in that domain.
      Hope that make sense
      Rgds

    Hi Steve,
    It was a great explanation and analogy made to understand the concept in a simple way.
    I have a quick question, relating to the analogy.
    When Bill gets a request from a client, how does he knows that it has to be sent to John, Fred or Jane?
    Does the request will be sent to all the managers and they respond only if they have a team member?
    Thanks,
    Rithin

    • @stevecope
      @stevecope  5 років тому

      He knows because the request is for player jim in teamA and he looks at the list to see who manages teamA and sends it to them.
      Does that make sense?
      Rgds
      Steve

      That's a very good question. I always, too, had this query. Steve, to give it with numbers and names. Suppose, Bill, has a list of 50 teams managers and their phones. Just every team's manager and phone, only, as you say in the video. Each team has e.g. 21 players. So, somebody asks Bill to give him phone number of e.g. Stewart. Stewart is a unique player of all 50 teams. As you say in video, Bill has only every team's managers names and phones. So, let's say, Stewart is player of team 49. So, since Bill has just managers names and phones, how does he know not to send the query to manager of e.g. team 30, but he send the query straight to correct manager of team 49? Thank you!

    • @abdullahalasif2110
      @abdullahalasif2110 3 роки тому

      @@yiannisserpico2646 According to the video the query is 'i need Stweart's contact number from team 49'. And Bill knows who manages team 49. So bill sends it to team 49's manager skipping others.
      But I have question that is- How does client know that the person's contact I am asking belongs to that particular team(say team 49)?

    Nice video sir. I have a question. Are second-level domain servers(SLD) authoritative name servers? thanks

    • @stevecope
      @stevecope  2 роки тому

      They are authoritative for part of the tree. You need to remember that DNS is not a single database but split up into many sections.

    -1 The analogy is good at first but then just confusing. In the end I want to understand the technical details not the structure of some football team.

    video could be better...your picture where you squared the zones is lacking clarity in regards to how/why the zones are distributed in this manner. Now I have to watch a more detailed video on the subject.

    Still don't understand why it's called a 'zone'? That term is so generic, that it adds no meaning. Could it have been voided? What would be the real names for these files? Like the 'license plates' are called license plates instead of 'zone plates', or like 'ID cards' are called ID cards instead of 'zone cards'.

  • @watki02
    @watki02 3 роки тому +1

    I've been working with DNS as a hostmaster for 5 years and I am searching for good explanations of zones vs domains. This video is just confusing, and parts, just flat WRONG. Particularly starting at 9:48, this not only added to my confusion, but clashes my understanding of zones vs domains. You cannot have a single "zone" that consists of just two subdomains (your "zone 2" in the diagram). Zone files start with an SOA record defining a single FQDN, of which the "D" means "domain". You would have to have two zone files, one for each subdomain...
    I CANNOT recommend this video to anyone.

    This is such a sloppy video it is difficult to tell what you wrote with the white background and if you think we can see anything you wrote well you're wrong. I recommend that you watch your own videos before you put them online. It is disgusting to have some teach or tutor and can't even make their videos visible to the public. Next time watch your video before putting it online.
