nothin better than coming home and finding a new Scott Grove beginner lesson in the style an old fart like me can relate to.it's time for western music to make a come back.thank's my friend.
Getting ready to order you lessons for Guitar, bass, harmonica etc. I alsways keep coming back to you Scott on UA-cam. You make it easy to understand and love your humor. I have to admit, there are some times I have been :"guitarded"! Laugh my ass off at your antics and can tell under all that you are just a good guy....ron
It's been years since I've been on your site .. Glad I'm back I've had 3 more surgeries but I'm back playing again only left handed now ... You make me smile your a straight up thanks for your time
If a person can't learn from these lessons,, they might as well quite. Finding Scott's lessons caused me to pick my instruments back up. Appreciate what ur doing Scott, I hope some of the younger generation takes a peak at what ur doing. It be the only way they hear what good country music sounded like. And yes he can play all types of music
I feel like I finally found the right teacher. 20 years late but better than never!!! Makes sense and very thorough with the feel and flavor. Amazing patience yet cuts through the bullshit. I love the open G one. Gotta have it tight yet slur it together with them up n down bends. Very tasty!! Thank you. GUITAR FOR LIFE.
I would like to thank you Scott. Having paid for one-on-one lessons with teachers who failed me both in motivation academically makes me so appreciative to you for being generous enough to share your skills and for being able to articulate in a fashion making your lessons so easy to comprehend. You gave me hope when there was no hope. For that I'm grateful to you.
This is Hands down one of the simplest yet most informative guitar lessons I’ve ever watched. Thank you so much for showing all this and taking time to do so.
I have watched many teachers on UA-cam, not only are you a good teacher, you are real, interesting, and knowledgable....the term phrasing is a term I had forgotten the name of for "how you talk"...anyway thanks for all your educational and interesting videos...
One of the best lessons I have ever seen on the Internet. I am speechless by how slow you go. You are like a ninja master teaching a guy a forward punch perfectly. Compliments on your other videos which make you seem more 'rock and roll' than this very straightforward lesson. Western will NEVER DIE. Thanks again dude!
Damn it Scott!! I have spent my whole life learning. We all do. There's plenty of people online teaching guitar. I have never learned from somebody who teaches in such a way that you actually learn effortlessly. I don't mean effortlessly as in "you don't have to practice to get good at it", I mean effortlessly as in, I actually comprehend and retain the information. I am addicted to your videos man! Lately I have been finding myself missing you during the day while I'm at work or even at the store! I will be working thinking, "damn it man, I just want to watch Scott Grove's videos and see what he's throwing down today!" Sometimes you make me serious and focused, sometimes you make me laugh my ass off, but 100% of the time make me learn something I didn't know. I appreciate what you do, you talented "bastage"... as you would say! LOL Where have you been all my life? Never mind, you are here now, so, PLEASE, don't go nowhere! We need you on here! The world needs more Scott Grove! Do you have talent in your foot?! "Well, if you think I am a good guitar teacher, just wait till you see what my foot can do!" Lmao Said the man with the talented taint! Hahahaa Keep the videos coming my friend. You are truly one GROOVY dude!
Scott, Thanks for this great lesson. So many people forgot the Western part of guitar playing. I agree with you 100% It's been deleted, and so called country has taken over. When you played the parts of what is being taught, just sounded so good. Loved it.... Thanks so much.
I said this about the last you tube teacher, that he was the best but you have blown him out of the running, well done. Learnt more about timing, picking and strings bending in 10 minutes with this video than ever with other vids. Will be sticking with this channel for quite a while. Cheers ol mate.
Great tutor Scott...i'am from the south of England (Hampshire) glad I found you on youtube...loved the video with the photos of your musical past...you have an amazing ammout of knowledge...thankyou for sharing with us...😎
Many thanks! This whole Internet thing makes it SOOOO easy to share ANYTHING with people. I'm glad you enjoy some of my lessons and babbling. lol Cheers!
A brand new Country Music radio station just came back to New York City recently after 17 years without one. ‘Nash 94.7’, aka WRXP 94.7. Great station! I am thrilled!
Awesome to be able to play any of Merle's music he's a Legend. You could always tell a mere song that's for sure. I can't wait to get home and pick up the Guitar and play some of Merle's music. Thank you. you're a great teacher. 👍😎
Wow, man. I've been playin' for over thirty years. Key word here is "playin'". Not learnin'. Just doing the same shit over and over again. Phoning it in, you know what I mean. Found you about a month ago and my mind is blown! You cut through the bullshit and teach and that's rare. Now I'm excited when I pick up my guitar, like I used to be all those years ago. Thanks so much!
Hi Scott, Your teaching in this lesson is so patient, methodical, and totally non patronizing. A real pleasure to follow you. Thanks so very much from Sydney Australia.
This was a lot of fun! I got to learn something I never really done before and picked it right up and made it my own, started doing all kinds of twangy cool stuff. This could go on &on & on & on lol damn! its cool I never knew it could be so fun to play this style of music. You gifted me Sir Scott AGAIN!! THANK YOU!!
Scott,it's nice to finally find somebody who shows old country licks that are exactly what I was looking for.Been a rhythm player for 40 years and been trying to learn simple country leads the last 3 years. Most I've had to do on my own because there's too much chicken picken out there today which is still above me,thanks a million,I get this totally...
I knew there would be SOMEONE out there that could use this stuff! I love that good folks like you are out there keeping the classic stuff alive. I'm going to keep putting this kind of stuff out there because it's still got a very valid place in music and again, I'm glad that you'll be using this and making great, CLASSIC country music. Scott
thansxxxxxxxxxx the first country lesson after 30 yrs of rock I hear slash and paige doing licks like that country and rock blend great!!!!! You are my teacher of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAA+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
markj44r I'm honored to be that teacher! You are DEAD ON CORRECT about how those guys play. The country and the classic rock were fused together very early on and with the whole SOUTHERN ROCK era, even more so. But, it was only natural. It ALL came from blues guitar players. They would play clean, they would play dirty........then the white boys took all of that and they would play and fuse them and some would just go DIRTIER and some would go CLEANER and they would be playing the SAME LICKS, just with a heavier band behind them or a more country thing behind them. I just love to teach all of these MUST HAVE licks. They are all winners and will find their way into your playing eventually. It's just all how you phrase it that makes it sound like YOU.

Man, you are great teacher. I am an old (66) Rythm player. And was happ to just play chords with a few flares. But you make it seem so easy Thanks Thanks
is very good to know that talented people like you take their time to help .and sharing your knowledge. with others.thank you.god bless each one of you.
Many thanks Jose. It's great to have to have the opportunity to share with people all over the world. It makes it great for me to learn music from different parts of the world as well. Gotta love how SOMETIMES this Internet thing can be used for GOOD things. Cheers!
I played in bands throughout high school and college, but I took a ten year hiatus from playing. These are really good lessons--I'm glad to be back in the saddle and I appreciate your help!
I’m a steady daily student of yours learning so much. You are the best patient teacher on iTunes.thank you. I,m playing so much better in recent years.the. Best paul.
I've viewed many "teachers" over the past few years, but not one of them is as thorough as Scott. He's brash and arrogant, but also, by far, the best instructor for country or any other lead, for my money. (And yes, I invested some of that money in his instructional CDs).
You're the best I've learned more from you then anybody by far and away I love the way you break it down I want to learn how to play guitar not play other people's songs and you just a man I needed to run into you thank you so much good luck
I will use my Telephonecaster - i bought it cheap, only 1500 dollars, made in China or India - the guy selling the guitar said it was the best right now - i am lucky. It has a neck with plastic inlays and tuners in real silver - thats what he told me. The guitar looks so cool but i must tune it all the time due to the master build quality. What a great lesson for me. Many thanks!
Great call on using the Hags signature Tele!!! Beautiful sound, beautiful sounds! The wonderful thing about teles you can buy a stock American Tele with no fancy grain or binding, gold hardware and its gonna sound like a country beast. The higher the price with teles just means more flare to it. I love how you said if ya play country you gotta to have a telecaster in the band. And I’ve always referred to our lead player as a Tele player, for example I’ll say we have a pedal steel, drummer, bass, singer playing acoustic, and a Tele player. You could have your lead player playing a Les Paul or a ES335, or a RIC 360, or even a Stratocaster, but it’s just not the same. The telecaster is it’s own instrument! If you play in a honky Tonk band you know exactly what I mean! Sorry for the ramblin but I’m half in a dream set talkin my own telecaster language. So I guess what Im saying is #TelecastersRule!!!!!!!
Scott.. Thank you SO much for this video! I've been a fan of old school country music since before I could walk, but until recently have limited my lead playing to rock and blues (minor pentatonic mostly) licks. It's been next to impossible to find a good tutorial for authentic country guitar for someone who is just taking to it.. Until now. After watching a few DVDs and feeling like I'd never get it, I stumbled across this video and you've given me hope again! Thank you so much, brother! I really appreciate what you do! Cheers! -JB
Hi Scott, I just happen to find your post and I am finding it very helpful! You sure make it easy for me to understand! I will be working on these licks and re-running you'r video several times I am sure! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this for us that need help!
Hey Scott, this was a great lesson. I have practiced scales until i'm sick of them. And still can't play what I want. Putting these licks down in all keys allowed me to break through the monotony of scales and play some licks.
Very cool! Yeah, scales suck! lol I still refuse to learn them after all these years. If you have anough licks in your bag of tricks, all the rest just works itself out. A buddy of mine who went to a famous school for classical once told me that he learned just enough in there to screw up his playing forever. lol Basically saying that he no longer plays with any heart or soul, just by all of the damned theory that they drilled into him. Don't let that happen to you. Cheers!
Without scales I would have no idea what to do. I learned lead by playing scales over chord progressions until I found what I wanted to hear within the scales. I found how to play with soul by buying a tube amp believe it or not, its been my experience that your feeling comes out more through tubes because they react better to subtleties and reward expression. Not saying you need one to play with feeling, just saying that's how I learned.
WOW, it has been TOOOOOO long without a single country station in NYC! I remember back when Garth did his big concert in the park and it showed just how many country folks were hiding there in the cracks. I'll look up that station on my computer radio stations and see if they are broadcasting online at all. I can't wait to head back to NYC. The wife and I were talking about doing that last night.
I agree! Scott is truly interested in teaching and sharing and less about showing off which he can! Thanks Scott! I also love you sarcastic humor. Half the time I'm watching to learn and sometimes I'm just laughing along 'cause I'm one of those dumb shits that buys crappy guitars sometimes and learning the hard way. Truly appreciate your time and talents.
this is a big challenge for me coming from a progressive rock background. learning periphery and dream theatre for 7 years put me at a bit of a standstill. this is a great way to broaden my horizons in genres and advance my playing even further. Great lesson, thank you for making this!
Thanks very much for this Scott. Very helpful. I'm from Wales but love Country, and America in general. Will follow your posts from today. Diolch yn Fawr!! (Thank you , in Welsh.)
Thanks for taking the time to do this Scott. It's a seriously useful lesson to me. I used to just hold my guitar wanting to play, but without a real clue how to learn. You and a few others on UA-cam have really helped me get going. I've got a long way to go and I'll probably never get there. But what a trip.
You'll get there Matt! Look at these 8 year olds out there that blow the doors off of seasoned professionals. It's just guitar and anybody can do it. You've got a lot of good teachers here on UA-cam, learn from them all. Most of them are VERY HELPFUL. Marty and Justin being a lot of people's favorites. Those guys give so much of themselves. You can't lose! Cheers! Scott
Wow! Great lessons. If anyone has not watched your video on "How to REALLY set the Tone on you Amy" is really missing it! I could have saved literally tens of thousands of dollars on guitar and amps if I had caught this info a couple of decades ago. Better late than never! Thanks again and GREAT JOB. Oh, and thanks for not assuming info, your explanation a complete.
You say western is missing, and country is barely country anymore. I not only agree, but am saddened to know it is still true today. Thank you for trying to keep it alive.
Ha ha, just had an hour of fun with your video. Not only for beginners but also advanced solo jammies with a beer, a boss RC2 and the outlook of jamming with friends tomorrow. BTW I'm still learning from your purchased "Don Rich" video. Really like the sound of the flatted 7ths in the licks! Thanks, Scott.
Was looking for something short and sweet in E, this was perfect! However, the lick you taught and the intro lick are different. You're such a great teacher, we could figure it out though!! Thanks again Dr!
This is fantastic! I've been a life long rhythm player. I just recently picked up a tele, and have been working on my lead playing in my spare time. This lesson is helping a lot! Looking forward to seeing more like this. Thanks!
On my acoustics, I've always played a jumbo. Currently a Gretsch heritage model. With light/med gauge GHS white bronze. Recently bought what I call my "Waylon rig" (Std. Tele With a MXR phaser) but recently got a Mesa Boogie V2 preamp pedal. Gonna try it out next! It's unlike any pedal I've ever seen
I would just like to add my appreciation for yr time and effort for us newbies,,,thank you so much and plz keep em coming,,,take care and thank you again Mac
I’ve also enjoyed watching many of your vids. I’m more of a rock / blues player; but, I thought some country lesson could help in one of my weak areas...particularly turnarounds. I also spent some years behind a live FOH mixer. Your insight on all subjects has a way of turning on a light bulb at times. I was particularly thinking of your disdain for 2-way PA’s. I couldn’t agree more. Respect.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed that one. Head to my site and go to the free guitar lessons part and there are TONS of other lessons just like that in different keys. Lots of fun to be had there. Many thanks again! Scott
I love that Telecaster, one of the best looking models I've seen, and sounds it fantastic. I saw this vid last week but looked for it again, its that good.
Hey Scott - Thanks for this. I just discovered your free video, Country Lead Guitar Licks In The Key Of E - def one of the best guitar lesson videos I've ever seen. After you put those several licks together, all of a sudden, you look at the whole fretboard and see "E". That's a really good video to go after this one. Great job - Thanks.
Scott I just restrung my Strat with Super Light (9-42) Polywebs by Elite. For the first time I was able to hold a bend through a full measure without pain being the main thing I was thinking about. I thank you for the suggestion that light weight strings are OK to use. When we hear the Stevie Ray Vaughn used extra heavy strings it creates the idea that we should all do that if we want a great sound. I'll never be SRV and I think it sounds just fine with the new strings...so thanks for the suggestions that have appeared in a few of your vids.
COOL! Now you can finally feel the "Pride And Joy" of playing! lol Sorry, I just had to do that. I hope you end up loving the Polywebs as much as I do. Keep me posted my friend! Scott
Hi Scott, I have a little Country solo act in Grand Jct, Colorado. Loved your video on finding backing tracks. I tend to arrange my own but found your insights on equalizing the volume and using windows media player to manage your show very helpful. On this video, I liked the emphasis on phrasing. Always find your videos helpful. Thank you
I've been searching for easy country licks and Scott does it by far the best, he takes his time and goes over them slowly.
nothin better than coming home and finding a new Scott Grove beginner lesson in the style an old fart like me can relate to.it's time for western music to make a come back.thank's my friend.

Your teaching skill are off the chart! Thank you Scott, Thank you!!!!
I'm a new lead player and this was the perfect lesson for me at this point in my learning. Thank you so much for sharing this.
This is Hands down one of the simplest yet most informative guitar lessons I’ve ever watched. Thank you so much for showing all this and taking time to do so.
Wow, thanks! I'm so glad that it is just what you were looking for. Stay groovy!
You do very well getting a beginner to comprehend what's involved with lead guitar.

I'm not a country fan but as long as their are people like you playing it will live on :)

we do alot of "classic" riffs. We call them "nashvile riff # (x). This way the singer calls out the number and we play it!
You explained something I couldn't figure out forty years.
Thank you very much
There is something so likeable and accessible about you, dude. Really appreciate all the vids and hope all is well.
Many thanks.
Great comment, I was just about to say the same thing :-)

That's an awesome lesson buddy I grew up around old country music it's awesome to get to learn how to play it thanks
thank you for taking the time to share your musical knowledge with us. It is much valued and appreciated Mr. Grove.
Thank you so much my man! I've played rock and blues for 51 years. I never tried to learn country until now. Now I know why lol, it's linda difficult.
I played in bands throughout high school and college, but I took a ten year hiatus from playing. These are really good lessons--I'm glad to be back in the saddle and I appreciate your help!

Hi there my friend! I hope you are very well. I've missed you! Give me a shout! Many thanks my man. So great to hear from you!
Scott
Great down to earth lessons, thanks. Your very humble and that's what I like about the way you teach. Much better than the show off teachers.
Got to say it, this is my speed, you did a very good job. More please.
My, oh my! What a find! I think you might of just turned this punk rocker into a country boy!!! Wonderful lessons! Thank you sooooo much my man!
The way you point the neck of the guitar somewhat at an angle toward the camera helps so much. Thanks!
I feel like my uncle I never had is teaching me! Haha awesome lesson. Thank you so much for all you do. Well appreciated.
Cool stuff I really like the old country guitar style the best! good job.

Thanks so much Scott for this Lesson. I'll be watching it a few more times to ensure that I have all the various keys worked out.
You are awesome. I never learned a lick so fast as this one. You are a great teacher and have a sweet sound.
Bought your collection years ago...you are a fantastic teacher!
Thanks very much for this Scott. Very helpful. I'm from Wales but love Country, and America in general. Will follow your posts from today. Diolch yn Fawr!! (Thank you , in Welsh.)
Another great lesson!!!
I learn a lot from you.
Thanks so much
Thanks for taking the time to do this Scott.
Sorry, the eyes and the hands missed it typing. It should have read "How to REALLY set the Tone on Your Amp:. DON'T MISS IT - Guys and Gals.
You say western is missing, and country is barely country anymore. I not only agree, but am saddened to know it is still true today. Thank you for trying to keep it alive.
This was useful to me. Thank you. I'm particularly fond of repeating that first bend, but cutting the time in half the second time around.
The best! You seem to spend time responding to the critics in other videos; ignore them. Really good stuff!
Scott thank you.
This is waayy more than a lick
Ha ha, just had an hour of fun with your video. Not only for beginners but also advanced solo jammies with a beer, a boss RC2 and the outlook of jamming with friends tomorrow. BTW I'm still learning from your purchased "Don Rich" video. Really like the sound of the flatted 7ths in the licks! Thanks, Scott.
Was looking for something short and sweet in E, this was perfect! However, the lick you taught and the intro lick are different. You're such a great teacher, we could figure it out though!! Thanks again Dr!
Thank you... Although I have been playing since the sixties... I am at beginner level with country music.
Thanks Scott! I’m adding this to my saved videos …working on these !
Please do!
Terrific lesson Scott. Thanks a lot. At last I've got it. Keep them coming please.
This is fantastic! I've been a life long rhythm player. I just recently picked up a tele, and have been working on my lead playing in my spare time. This lesson is helping a lot! Looking forward to seeing more like this. Thanks!
Great job once again Scot thank you ever so much.
Like those country licks thanks! Im a beginner to that style. Thanks for the basics!
Thanks for the lesson ! No nonsense bs, just good instructions. Old Western is beast btw. 😉
Well scott u did again awesome video and lesson, its always a treat to what these lessons.
On my acoustics, I've always played a jumbo. Currently a Gretsch heritage model. With light/med gauge GHS white bronze. Recently bought what I call my
"Waylon rig" (Std. Tele
With a MXR phaser) but recently got a Mesa Boogie V2 preamp pedal. Gonna try it out next! It's unlike any pedal I've ever seen
Can't watch anybody else's videos Scott! Feel like I'm cheatin' on ya!! Keep it up and be well:)
I would just like to add my appreciation for yr time and effort for us newbies,,,thank you so much and plz keep em coming,,,take care and thank you again Mac
My favorite country intro!!! Hope all is well!! Love the new guitars especially the Ibanez!!
That Tele sure sounds sweet. Another great lesson.
I enjoyed your amp settings instruction scott so helpful a big thanks you a cool dude man
I love all your lessons and reviews, always tops ! Keep going Mr. Groovy !
u sure leave nothing out with explanations! love it! thanks!
Scott
I just restrung my Strat with Super Light (9-42) Polywebs by Elite.
Thank you
