  • (~a reimagining of my 2023 Drifting: a chill and cinematic piece that makes you feel like you’re sailing in the wide oceans alone, complete with a rich harmony 💖~)
(~one year ago, I wrote the original Drifting at a time when I felt lost and unloved in an endless sea. today, I give this song all the love it deserved from the very beginning~)
A Time for Memories - Drifting
“…My old neighbourhood in Tsuzugo had a good view of the ocean, as long as you stayed around the port.”
“You know Sakiyo-aren’t people scared of the ocean? It’s this huge empty space of water with no end in sight that could swallow anyone who gets lost in it, but it’s like people just take it for granted.”
“Not as if we have a choice, though it’s normal to be frightened by that. Personally, I just find its vastness fascinating…”
A bottle in hand, Sakiyo leads Ennarin to the shore, the waves around Araveth rather calm this morning.
“Over in that direction is Sarozanka… Even the Strait dividing that place and Aravythrin is quite wide. You can understand why people back home still presumed me dead even when no body turned up.”
“So they just thought that your body got washed away never to be seen again or something?”
“Supposedly. You have to wonder sometimes just how many things get lost in the ocean that never emerges again.”
Her eyes scan the bottle and her folded letter within as she prepares to let go of it.
“Heh, chances are nobody will ever find this bottle ever again, but it’s worth a shot, don’t you think?”
    “Mmm hmm!”
“To think this will become just one more dot in the ocean once we set it loose… It reminds me of how I felt back then: of how my mind just constantly felt adrift and afloat, with no way of stabilising itself.”
“Adrift and afloat… and with nobody else who could head you out, right?”
“Yep. Just me and my thoughts everyday, bouncing and echoing back and forth, like how the waves might handle this bottle.”
    Shifting, Ennarin nudges Sakiyo’s shoulder.
“But that’s in the past at least! Neither of us have to feel that lost and unwanted ever again.”
“Just how it should be. I still wonder sometimes what we ever did to deserve the world shunning us both… but I’m just happy to be able to look forward to something for once.”
