    I’ve been enjoying the new Ultimate Spider-Man. Very nice art. The concept of super powers as allegory for the midlife crisis instead of puberty also has a lot of potential.

    Janet VanDyne's backstory had always been that she's a successful fashion designer. I've enjoyed that through the years as the in-story and behind-the-scenes reason for giving her so many different costumes, whereas most superheroes look the same for decades.
    I'm not reading any current comics, uh... currently, though am in the middle of Barry Windsor-Smith's 'Monsters'. I was utterly horrified within the first few pages. It's wonderful.

    I had a similar concern about Tynion overstretching when I started Workdtr33. I loved it, but having just finished the Vol 7 TPB of Something’s Killing, I think that may be the one that’s suffered a bit. It just seemed very predictable. I’ll definitely pick up the next Worldtr33 TPB, but not sure about the next volume of Something’s Killing.

      I've picked up multiple Tynion series, but I dropped off SIKTC early in the run and will not be continuing with NHBTL, not just because of the lengthy & annoying acronyms, but because I don't have the $$$ to follow every one of his whimsies.

    The reboot of Conan by Titan has been quite good. Similar but it's own thing, Bloodrik was an enjoyable, well drawn, 3 issue mini. I think Skybound’s Hasbro books have all been solid even with Void Rivals’s very slow burn pacing. Transformers is very fun especially with Daniel Warren Johnson’s art. I enjoy both the GI Joe books but I think Cobra Commander might be the more interesting one due to delving into the weirder more controversial parts of GI Joe lore.

I have enjoyed her previous works. Apart from that, anything written by Ed Brubaker would be great as he has been consistent lately.

    The thing I've been reading that I think you'd like the most is Blue Book 1947. It's a miniseries by Tynion and Micheal Avon Oeming about Kenneth Arnold's UFO sightings in 1941. This is the second volume they've done and both are non-fiction stories detailing paranormal events that Tynion finds interesting. Also Tynion is working on a Horror book with Christian Ward called Spectregraph that I'm looking forward to because I just read Batman City of Madness and Ward's art on that is incredible (not so much his writing)

    GI Joe: A real American Hero is and remains a good comic. The 80s Marvel Shield comic that never stopped, minus those 15 years.
    The main Transformers comic is also quit good. The very first time I actually care about reading a Transformer ongoing.
    Kirkman´s Firepower just ended. I liked that one.
    JoJo Part 9: The JojoLands (only in scanlation) is good and has a US setting but it´s best to start part 7, a reboot, if you want to get on that train.

    Lion and the Eagle, another war tale from Garth Ennis. Initially, you may think this is Ennis's brand of violence and WWII, but let me assure you that he will exceed that expectation with this story.

      Garth Ennis is an amazing war comic storyteller. And it annoys me to no end how the Boys (which let's face it is absolute trash) became more of a hit instead of his war material, because that's where his heart is, and it's his best stuff. But American Cape Addicts can't let go of their capes in favor of anything else.

    I'll check out the new Transformers/GI Joe universe someday. And I'll read Hellblazer: Dead in America when it's finished. Tom King is not my cup of tea, but good for him for writing Wonder Woman. And don't forget James Tynion is writing Nightmare Country, one of the current Sandman spinoffs, also unfinished as far as I'm concerned. Enjoyed a miniseries called Bloodrik by Andrew Krahnke. And these are my current comics I'm reading.

    That technique of writing of holding information for the mystery to be solved is why I haven't been able to connect with some of the more famous mystery fiction. I feel like most of them do that to enhance impact or to make the protagonist seem cooler.
    Funnily enough, more children oriented mystery themes fiction avoid these contraptions, which is probably why series like Scooby Doo end up being timeless.

    I really enjoy all your videos, and appreciated your take in some newer books. That said: I do have one piece of constructive criticism that I hope you will consider:
    In your review of Ultimate Spider-man, you said that Peter didn't deserve Mary Jane in any reality, based solely on her looks. That comment was shallow, and beneath you. What is it about Peter that makes you feel he doesn't deserve an attractive partner? Do you feel that MJ is defined solely by her looks, with no identifiable personality characteristics? I won't go so far as ti say I was "offended " by this comment, but I was definitely taken aback.
    Also, if you are an AI program, who was the white haired man in the photo in one of your previous videos? Was this an actual human, or an AI generated image?

    • @TitularHeroine
      @TitularHeroine 7 місяців тому +2

      That was a joke about Peter, feeling directionless and dissipated, feeling he didn't deserve such a great partner. Maybe the tone of voice was inscrutable since it's, well, an AI? ;)

    • @StrangeBrainParts
      @StrangeBrainParts  7 місяців тому +2

      @TitularHeroine explained it for me. :) My delivery is quite dry and that leaves room for a few conclusions. You could also read it as I have a thing for confident redheads and I'm jealous Peter is involved with Mary Jane. Either way.
      Me being AI is a running joke, I suppose you could say. Someone(s) jokingly said my voice sounded like AI and I just ran with it. It comes up in a few videos and I think there's one Short where I admit to being AI. I might even throw in a few small errors every now and again to reinforce that joke. (Nothing factual, mind you.)
      For the record, that's very light blonde hair with lots of grey. I'm not exactly white haired...yet. But that picture is actually me. I'm real. I exist.
      Now you know!
