this is sooooo goood..I'm listening here sitting on my bed with the subwoofer underneath. Really enjoy your jams and super helpful tips on the volca sample!
I discover your videos one at a time, and your understanding of the volca samples is just on point. The ways you get around and play with its limitations is a fantastic way for a newbie to learn and understand how a simple tool like the volca sample can produce hours of fun and great jams. I know you see my comments pop up from videos to videos saying the same thing, but thanks again for taking the time to make these and reply to comments about which samples you used etc, your rock dude.
Many Volca Sample songs sound cheap because it is very easy with that sequencer to just press play and mix basic stuff. So I get happy when I hear something that is truly crafted as this one, thanks for sharing!
Insanely massive can't believe you can make this sort of music out of this box great skill. I've wanted an affordable drum machine for years and have been torn between beats and drum, now you've pickled my noodle with this curveball I hadn't considered. Sample!
hi m8 total nob here great sounds please tell me if it is standard sound pack or diff pack? if so please tell me where i can get many thx your music is ace
great, i like it. I try to make also genial Music with my Korg Volca Sample. But i cant do it so good like your Song. Maybe you can tell me the Numbers of the Default Sound you use ? Thx Dont stop your Music. ;)
+Ashunar Thanks so much for the love! Channel 1: The initial deep decaying click that goes throughout is sample 077. Channel 2: The Hi Hat is sample 031. Channel 3: The lead synth is sample 061. Channel 4: The deep decaying moan is sample 061. Channel 5: The first snare is sample 75 and the second snare is sample 025. Channel 6: The melodic stab is sample 061. Channel 7: The melodic poppy clav sound is sample 057. Channel 8: The melodic decaying sound which I cue throughout is sample 084. Channel 9: The kick is sample 003. Channel 10: The bass tone is sample 003. I hope this helps! I'm happy to give more in depth parameter information as best as I can on any of the samples too! Happy beat making :)
Man, how did you get the clav melody so clean? Did you do that with the pitch knob? For me it always sounds like a slide in between the notes, not clean like you have it.
Hmm I cant say for sure (it was a while ago) I find that dialing in a little extra EG Int + Attack on the Pitch envelope can really reduce the "sliding" sound. If I remember correctly I recorded the melody live using the Speed knob rather than holding down each note and turning it while playback was stopped. I've found varying success. I think it also depends on the sample used, I think Sample 57 from the default soundbank is better than say 44 for melodic lines.
@@tonywharton5220 oh right. Yeah I’m just using the Pan knob. Some instruments I’d move slightly left and right and then others I’d automate them moving around the stereo space. I believe you can also set a stereo value per step if you so choose. In records to playback, jamming on the machine etc I always use a stereo cable. So it takes up two spaces on a mixer or into my soundcard
Hrnek Bezucha I think the FM is the most versatile and groundbreaking of the Volca range. People say it sounds to 80s but that's just ignorant. It's capable of some mind bending noises and it's only let down for me is that it's 3 voice, in which case you can buy two and chain them together and still be way cheaper than any other serious fm contender. Once you get your head around FM i think it's a boss as fuck synth :)
Are those three voices drawback when sequencing or chords or is it limiting even the algorithms you can make? What about the simplified envelope is that not a problem? And the keyboard, everyone is complaining about that. But FM is really neat invention and learning that sounds like a load of fun. Just for sake of remaking music from Megadrive or adlib. I'm surprised almost nobody does that.
I feel it's limitations breed better creativity. The keyboard thing is not such a big concern if you are sequencing it with a keystep, E2, circuit, pyramid etc etc I dont think the three voice limits the algorithms much at all but I could be wrong. Overall they nailed it in comparison to yamaha with their reface, I dont think there is much competition. I agree on the Megadrive front, but I also feel that FM has a much more modern application and it is being underutilized in favor of bygone sound banks :P
Do you use a standard(ish) layout for your sounds when you're making beats like this? I've just started messing around with a sample, and I'm finding it a bit hard to remember what part is what sometimes.
naught101 yeah I try to keep it as standard as possible on all my grooveboxes, really depends on the genre. I like using channel 9 & 10 on the Sample for kick/bass cause they gate each other, percussion grouped together and melody grouped together is usually pretty safe! 🤙🏼
Thanks mate! I run a stereo 3.5mm out of the Volca to dual mono quarter inch jack cable, into both available inputs on the Scarlett. Then I use Ableton to record both channels simultaneously into one stereo channel in Ableton.
little sampler... but FAT VIBRATIONS ! Congrat' mate this is fucking sound witch deep amb =D Just miss a simple melodic line and will be perfect as for me :)
zorba nongreco thanks mate! Honestly, this was one of my first synths and this was one of the first songs, so not too hard to learn. Especially if you’ve been producing in the past :)

I just landed to this world (owning my box for less than a month) and I can only agree and say thank you thank you thank you @schtang!

Rodrigo Partida big thanks 🙏🏼💚

TheSmudga99 yeah I haven’t had the chance to use the drum but definitely sample > beats
@@Schtang sample arrives tomorrow, korg should pay you lol.

Hi there. This is amazing. How are you getting the stereo separation please?
Hey! Thanks :)
What do you mean by stereo separation?
@@Schtang I can hear certain sounds in one ear and other sounds in the other ear with headphones on.

What do you use to record man ?

Cheers for the feedback.
For Video: GoPro Hero 4
For Audio: Record into Ableton via Focusrite Scarlett 2i4
Nice changes. Even at the end it sounded like you were going to another interesting scene.
I like the trick with loop and start point.
Me too! It's the best way I've found to make the Volca Sample a bit more of an instrument than just a drum machine :)
I can see you have quite a collection, what do you think of Volca FM? It could be a nice duo in the right hands.

love it!

Did you use the factory samples or loaded in some samples to it?
how do you record through the scarlett ? really nice track.
