  • Noris Ledesma , Interviews Giuseppe D' Aleo of Milan Farms.
    Milan Farms is a brave project, to grow Kesar mangoes in the Dominican Republic for export to EU and the USA.
    This is a very informative video on cultivation techniques, and the challenges faced by those starting a plantation. specially one as bold and pioneering as this.

    El tropico es el mejor lugar para la siembra de frutas. No tienen problema con las bajas y altas temperatura.

      El mango es un arbol "sub-tropical" y en realidad beneficia de un period de baja temperatura ( pero no congelandose ) el frio ayuda sincronizar la floracion. eso es muy importante en fincas comerciales, para que los frutos estan en la misma etapa de maduracion.
      en un residencial no es importante la sincronizacion, en realidad conviene que los frutos se maduran por largo periodo y no todo al mismo tiempo.
      En los tropicos, para mercado de exportacion, se requiero el aplicacion de Nitrato de potasio ( KN03 ) para stimular la floracion.
      otro stimulo de floracion es el stress de sequia, por eso no debe darle agua a sus arboles de mango, en el invierno, eso estimula floracion.

    what is distance between two line and plants.

    • @agriperma
      @agriperma  5 років тому

      There are many planting schemes. traditional plots had large distances between trees, 20 to 30 ft. but that is very old school and usually only reserved for more semi-arid areas, that will not be irrigated.
      What is becoming more popular today, is high density, trees spaced 12 feet or so apart, there are even Ultra High Density systems but are more labor intensive.
      to plan for spacing, you need to take into consideration your situation. will you be using irrigation system? or relying on the rain only? what variety? will you be using commercial equipment such as tractors, or will everything be taking care of on foot?
      personally I recommend drip irrigation, and HD system. train trees and keep them under 15ft. around 12-15ft apart, this will allow harvesting with a pole picker on the ground. trees are easily taken care of. also high density, will be more profitable .
      as for the project in the video, if I remember correctly they used 4 meter distance, which is around 13ft .

    I am interested in Keshar variety plants on drip irrigation.My place located in Maharashtra (India).Is it possible to plant on 13ft×6ft distance which is called uhdp Israel system.uhdp affect the life of orchid?

      @agriperma  5 років тому

      Ah ok, I see you did some research, the Ultra High Density, does require more work, because the trees are planted so very close together, precise control of growth is necessary, which means that in these type systems , growth retardants are used Paclobutrazol (PBZ). everything needs to be timed , and controlled. the benefits are quick return in profits, the drawbacks is the higher maintenance, and PBZ is not organic. one other concern, is that because you will have less air circulation around the trees, fungus can be a problem, so you might have to spray for that more often.
      Regarding Kesar, there are two types, I recommend the "Jumbo Kesar" it is the same exact fruit, but larger. make sure you get roots stock and scions that are certified. this is important your trees will all perform the same, and in international market, are starting to require certification. this will be more of an issue in the future. so it's a good idea to start off right.
      Good luck

      talal alnabouda yes , it is genetically modified

    • @agriperma
      @agriperma  5 років тому

      It's actually the same variety, a farmer in India noticed one of the branches on one of his trees had larger fruit, he decided to graft part of that branch to see if the fruit would be big on the grafted tree as well, it did. Jumbo Kesar is NOT genetically modified by man, it was caused by a natural mutation, this happens in nature all the time, even in humans. If memory serves me, I believe this is called a "Somatic " mutation, for example navel oranges ( no seeds ) was a natural somatic mutation.
      Jumbo Kesar and regular Kesar taste the same, the only difference is that Jumbo Kesar has much larger fruit.

    Hollo can you guys export these mangoes to USA?

    • @agriperma
      @agriperma  6 років тому

      The mangoes from this project are already being exported to the USA, I believe to New York. I know someone in Florida that has also planted about 200 Kesar trees, since this variety adapts better to different climates, compared to Alphonso, you might find them in some small ethnic markets soon.

      We usually import this Kesar from India but its long route but if we can get it from DR it will be much faster, shorter and cost effectively. I am from los angeles, California and i was wondering if you are interested shipping to CA we are ready to start new operation.

      Ok I am personally just a volunteer for the mango agriculture board here in the Dominican Republic, this is not my project, and have no investment in any of them, but I will contact Giuseppe, and find out how is project is going, I will also contact my friend in Florida, to see how that farm is going. I do not want to mention the name of that person without their permission at this point, but hopefully I may even do video on that project with their permission. personally I have 3 trees, and think I will plant a few more on a in-laws farm. I love Kesar. always a treat. plus it is a good commercial variety. if I get any information on anyone that has them available, I'll post that information here.
