  • The mother of a woman who took her own life after her benefits were wrongly stopped has told Channel 4 News that she fears more people will die like her daughter because of imminent benefit cuts.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
An inquest into Jodey Whiting's death found the actions of the Department for Work and Pensions "triggered" the 42-year-old's death.
Joy Dove fought for eight years to expose the failings that led to her daughter taking her own life.

Vulnerable people are prime candidates for being coerced back into work.

A friend of mine was told he was fit for work on his deathbed in hospital. IT's a nasty bullying environment. Those who know know. Those who don't know, won't get it till it happens to them.

Wez steeting yapping on about improved mental health and access. I am told basically I am too complex for the trusts cbt therapy. Only 6 sessions offered to majority of clients. I need a lot more. I have asked for this in writing but of course they word the lettering very different to cover themselves. It's all a load of rubbish. No true help available.

As in most organisations, these problems stem FROM THE TOP. The only way to fix these problems is to make top people PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE for the acts of their incompetent and/or incompetent underlings.

That won't happen with two tier kier. Only the working classes receive harsh penalties the majority of the time.
The class system definitely exists well and truly in the UK.

This case is written about in detail in the book The Department by John Pring, alongside accounts of other deaths. Good to hear of this ruling.

If people have chronic health issues that make it difficult for them to work and there is little prospect of them getting better, they really shouldn’t have to keep going for assessments. It’s incredibly stressful and demoralising. Most people want to work and be productive in society and have their own home etc, but it’s not possible if you are severely restricted from living a normal life due to illness.
These people should listen to doctors and health professionals and have some heart towards their fellow humans.

I've been coerced back into work on and off for about 7 years only to recently, due to AI, finding out I have an auto immune disease. A disease that COULD'VE been diagnosed since I was taken to the GP at 4, or when I went about 50 times during my twenties...I'm now 35...
The condition is hereditary and has disabled my sister, given my brother unnecessary open heart surgery as a child and ruined a grandparents entire 84 year existence. my mother is skipped over for promotion to head teacher from head of department due to the sick days it caused her, and I didn't have a social life throughout my 20s and early 30s, not to mention no stable career for the last 10 years
you should believe people when they say they can't work

Sad case. The DWP are far too cruel.
Focus should be on those who can work part time, to work a bit more. Rather than those who actually cannot work.

IM so sorry for this mother's lost no parent should have to go through this but this is going to keep happening I'll remember a man a black man who died years ago who suffered with mental health and who was thrown into a situation where the he had schizophrenia really bad schizophrenia and he just he couldn't work for other reasons and he died and I remember when they went in his property he had food 3 tins of beans I think called something like that cause I can't remember everything But he had food at as dusty and old he had no money and he had literally been just left to die alone and the family had to fight for justice and recognition Reckon what he was put through by the Job Centre he was left to suffer and many more will be suffering and many more people will lose their fight in life the Job Centre is failing people this government is killing people and we are all suffering

It's quite simple. Instead of paying unqualified private companies to do assessments, GP's and medical personnel involved in treatments should always have more weight than someone ticking boxes on a form.
