I personally prefer to not use music when I workout anymore. I started realizing that after years of working out with music, it just became noise and I wasn't even really listening anymore, and it also kept me from really tuning into my body when I was performing a movement. Personally I think it's beneficial for people with lower baseline levels of dopamine to not use music, it helps you stay focused and gives you the mental fortitude to push through things in other areas of life that are tough

I absolutely agree. It makes it more meditationl, intentional and effective in my personal experience.
When I workout without music at 6am I get the workout done way faster and better. I'm not distracted by checking apps, changing songs or whatever. I'm present and focused.
      That's why I think it's so beneficial.
      HOWEVER
when I'm cycling I watch videos with sound cause I like to "feel" like I'm outdoors.

I don't workout with music purely because I notice that my headspace can be dictated by the beat of the song sometimes. I'm only ready when this beat drops, or I'm going to jam to this chorus etc. Sure motivation is great but what's even more powerful is having the capability to conjure that self motivation and to be able to push hard on sets purely focusing on the muscle contraction, the technique and breathing.
I believe everyone should at least try for a week, because it can really give a different perspective to training. I find I'm more focussed, more alert and more in-tune with "lifting with my body" instead of "lifting to the beat". Though I suspect if you don't have that necessary love for being in the moment, and you see work as sacrificing the present for the future, then you won't benefit that greatly since you're result oriented.

I'm a person that wear headphones 90% of my day. I always have something stimulating me. When I'm at work I have my headphones, when I'm at the gym I have headphones, when I relax I have headphones.
I really didn't think of this until recently when I asked a guy at the gym "how tf can you train without music". Then I realized that I always stimulate myself with music/podcasts etc.
Now I do 1 day/week without music, which is really different. I wouldn't say better or worse, but it's definitely up and downsides of both ways.

Music makes working out alot better to be honest. I do have days where I am SICK of noise though. Put the headphones away, and just lift. Those days are nice too.

no it’s terrible compared to no music. No music etc gives meditation. Makes you mentally strong as well. Far more so than with music.

that's exactly what he talked abt in the podcast he mentioned that we get too confortable with music to help us escape reality when we should do it our selves with our mental strength and try to overcome that feeling u said rn. for me I realized that just abt weeks ago and I literally sitting rn on floor trynna search why the hell am I weak af today can't push even a little, I know for sure I ate well and rested well and that's why I came to yt to search how to over come that feeling. I decided now to focus on my mental strength bc that's the weak spot on me rn, u know when u try do pull-ups but u have weak forearms so u don't get the most of benefits of pull-ups? that's exactly what's happening to me now and we gotta just keep training like that until mental strength is equal or almost to other muscles XD I try to imagine mental strength like a muscle strength

    • @SpaceDad87
      @SpaceDad87 Рік тому +6

@Nurullah Tapcı It's not that it's always a bad thing, I love multitasking, but the process of solely focusing on one things directs your attention. And like they were saying makes you sit in your own thoughts. Which in 2022 we have so many distractions we never have to do if we don't want to.

    • @Iamhimbutyouarenot

@@nurullahtapc9850the problem is people multitask too often. Definitely leads to having terrible focus.
I tested it myself and the difference was legit. Working out without no music is a cheat code because weight lifting is a physical action. Much easier to practice focus while doing something physical vs trying to read a book, from scratch.

Personally, I have a no phone in the gym rule. Hitting the gym is like my meditation, it’s only me and the exercise. No distractions, I am able hear my inner voice pushing me to the max. Plus we are all on our phones 80% of the time throughout the day. As well as building that mind-muscle connection, it also gives your eyes a break from staring at a screen all day. I leave every workout feeling great. I believe everyone should try it.

I’ve lifted without music for years now. Mostly because I am too cheap to get a nice pair of earbuds.
But I’ve learned to really enjoy the silence. Just close your eyes, listen to your breathing and feel the blood flowing around. Feels good.
Not only that, it makes you open to conversation with others which is always a positive.

Mark!! I’m in need of guidance! I recently tore my pec off the tendon(if it were tendon off the bone I’d 100% be confident with surgery). I’m completely torn(pardon the pun) on getting surgery to repair this injury. In your opinion, given your probable anecdotal encounters through the year, would I be better off just letting this heal or having the surgery to attempt to reattach the muscle to the tendon?? Reason I comment on this video about this is the fact that I got way over hyped by music and did shit that I had no business doing. I would love for you to touch on this because I currently have the surgery scheduled but I don’t want to be limited on functionality after the fact. If I’d be better off just letting this heal up and dealing with the aesthetic consequences versus the functionality limitations post op. I’m also going to DM you on IG, I need advice from a person that has more experience with this that I have. Thanks!!!

I’ll be honest I’ve tried lifting without music for long periods of time. It’s overall less fun I’d say. I never listen to music when I’m running though. Not sure why. Headphones themselves are kinda distracting bouncing in your ears and such. I like hearing my breathing and pacing too helps me zone out and not think about anything. Music is like riding waves of energy which doesn’t go great with running imo.

Everytime I listen to music in the gym I just end up vibing to the music and not really focused. Then when I focus I am conpletely blocking out the music anyway. For me there is just no added benefit for the workout and a risk of losing a pair of headphones or even worse, my phone, which I don't even keep around me anymore in the gym.
I also find I recover my focus best after completely zoning out and thinking of nothing for a few minutes. My eyes are just staring straight at the wall or the floor and my head is completely silent. The second I snap back I am 100% ready to go for my next set.
