    Perhaps its size and the bite / incisors gave it an effective defence and deterrent against the sabre tooth cats and terror birds. I saw capybara in Brazil and although they were quite docile I wouldn't want to annoy one!
    Imagine a - possibly highly aggressive - rodent almost the size of a hippo!

    I have always pondered how paleontologists create renderings of complete skeletons and even fleshed out depictions of specimens for which they only find a skull or even just part of a limb! Can you please do a video about this? Thank you so much for considering.

    If this has been answered elsewhere then just ignore me, but i'm a little confused.
    It's suggested that it didn't have much grinding power in the jaws because of the tiny zygomatic arches and so probably fed on water plants or fruit but then we hear that it has a very powerful bite and maybe ate wood?
    That seems contradictory.
