    I tried panning the Zumbro in Oronoco myself. Think I found one or two specks. To top it off my new, improperly adjusted $600 eyeglasses slipped off my face. The current drug them off to never be seen again. Well, that day didn't go as planned.

    • @gonepostal9101
      @gonepostal9101 3 місяці тому

      @@GlacialGoldHunter nope, I live in Duluth, where we have lots of bedrock, and clay. If you’re gonna find gold, and it sure won’t be much, it’s gonna be on the bedrock. I’ve poked around some in Arizona, and if you’re in a stream or a wash, the gold is almost always as low as you can go.

    Hey Gold Hunter. The Zumbro gold rush was real and they did find god in quantity. But not in the river bed that most people assumed it would be. The gold was found in a section of the river where there was steep river banks near the edge of the river, and the gold was found in a thin layer of sediment in the actual river bank about four feet up from the bottom of the river bank. Most of the gold found was in this layer of sediment and not in the river. BTW There is a large quartz vein that crosses the zumbro river somewhere that had a gold vein running thru it. below this quartz vein larger nuggets of gold have been found in recent years. I got this info from Mn gold prospecters association website years ago. Good luck!!!!! Michael M

    You mentioned private land. I thought in Minnesota you could be on a river as long as you didn’t step on to someone’s property? I’m going to try panning the Zumbro near dodge center.
    Thanks for the good info!

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes you can walk up a river as long as you have acceded it through public land, but that doesn’t mean you can pan it or dig there. The mineral rights are not public on on private land.

    • @jordanstephenson6953
      @jordanstephenson6953 3 місяці тому

      Yes, you can fish it, paddle it, swim, simply enjoy it, but can't take anything out of it (except for legally caught fish) if the land under the water isn't 100% public (or you personally own at least the mineral rights).

    I've lived in that area for over 50 years, and both of my grandfathers told me years ago the Oronoco gold rush was a hoax in hopes of helping the local economy at the time. Those rock ledges were put in around 2013 when they removed the dam following the 2011 flood.

    Not too many years ago the area you where panning in was lake shady. Oronoco had a flood that washed out the dam that stood right in the area you where panning in. Since then they have in and dumped most of that gravel and rock in there as a way to the river in its correct location and not wash out the lake bed sediment. This was all just recently finished.
