Just wanted to add a note that I had the great honor of meeting Mrs Roddenberry at Shore Leave in 89 or so. I was asked by one of the con planners to drive the van with a welcome committee to pick her up from the airport and return her for her return trip. Cirroc is absolutely correct about her. Very nice and even tempered. On the trip to the hotel one of the con people brought up Riker’s beard. Majel did not like it but these folks only had to say “Ensign Potsy” and she understood why we wanted him to keep it. I think our conversation had some sway in her decision to withdraw her objection. Another thing I noticed about her and the other cast members I met was how painfully introverted they all are.i thought I was bad and I’m an INFJ. I always thought I was too introverted to be a performer. Now I have to wonder.
Majel Barrett being a good actor is definitely a good reason why I can easily feel good about including The Cage on a recommendation list for someone who's never seen anything Trek.
Missed the live, but here's the down low on May 4th - The first recorded reference of the phrase being used was on May 4, 1979, the day after Margaret Thatcher was elected as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Her political party, the Conservatives, placed a congratulatory advertisement in the Evening News saying "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations." It went from there and is now a big part of that other Star franchise. I totally loved this episode, because I always got such a huge kick from every appearance by Majel as Lawaxana, she ruffles those uptight Picard feathers in the best possible way. Ryan and Cirroc definitely have some interesting takes on things.
Guys... "filler"? This wasn't really a concept back in the day. A slow episode, a character based episode, etc. sure but "filler" come on. It's pretty rough calling their work filler. Major Charles Emerson Winchester III (David Ogden Stiers) showing up in Star Trek was a big deal back in the day. M*A*S*H was still in full syndication (and still is?). Kelsey Grammar showing up as a Captain was also a big deal back then. The future has kind of robbed these high-profile TV actors of what it actually meant in the day.
"Well that's your Prime Directive, not mine!". Great line and delivery from Mrs Roddenberry. 🖖
love Lwaxana. great episode

Great review. Sorry I missed the live show.
Only three Star Wars movies in 1991? Why does everyone forget Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor?
