As an American who moved to Amsterdam 10 years ago, watching this video reminded me of all the mixed emotions I felt when I moved across the Atlantic. This is a very warm, welcoming city (even during a pandemic) and I know you'll find it to be a wonderful place to live. I wish you both the very best on your journey.

omg welcome to my beautiful home town!! you'll love it here xx *edit, I thought I might give you some tips: while people really appreciate it if you can say a few easy words in Dutch, it's a super international city and most people will speak English to you. Also job wise it's totally possible to find a job here without knowing Dutch. As housing is really expensive here I would suggest looking for something in the suburbs/just outside the city center, as public transportation is great and the city is small enough to reach almost everything by bike aswell. The apartments in the city center are overpriced and you live among the tourists, so for the same price you can have a nicer, bigger place a bit further away. Living close to Sloterplas is recommendable! Wishing you lots of luck with the move!!:))
@@helenemeyerhoff6965 heey! personally I live in the sloterplas area & I really like that it's close enough to the city (a few minutes by public transport or bike) yet it's very calm in the area and there is more greenery & nature, the sloterplas itself is a lake which is beautiful in warmer months. I like the feeling of having a buzzing social life & then coming home to a calm area where you hear birds singing in the morning:) it's also cheaper than the city center

Miso is adorable ❣️ I brought my big dog on an 11hour nonstop flight to Europe & wrote a note to the pilot letting him know my dog was in the hold and to please adjust the temperature in the hold. He was so nice that he made an announcement over the intercom that he would take good care of my dog. Just a thought for you !

Yaaaayyyy! I’m Italian and I lived very close to Amsterdam for almost 5 years. I loved my time in the NL. I recently relocated to Italy (but in a different region than where I grew up, for work reasons). Some time ago I messaged you guys when you shared a list of pros and cons about different cities/countries and I gave you some tips on nightlife, techno clubs, work environment etc in the NL. I’m happy to see you decided to move there, I hope (and think!) you’ll love it. When it’s safe to do so, I definitely recommend to go clubbing in Shelter. Sadly De School shut down due to their financial struggles during the pandemic, but hopefully Shelter will survive this time! Best of luck!!!

I can totally relate to the mixed feelings - I'm so excited to be where I am right now with my partner but it feels strange with the pandemic still going on and not being able to meet people! Sweet! My wife and I visited Amsterdam a few summers ago and fell in love with it. I am also into cycling, so Amsterdam was like a dream for me. We bicycled everywhere for shopping, sightseeing, and general transportation, and everybody is very respectful of bicyclists there. I hope that you two love it there! Cheers!

Embrace the chaos of the housing market... sometimes it's good to stay in a temporary place for a few months to scout out a nice place because soo many places become available rapidly. So I'm currently trying to close the distance with my partner during quarantine... while I knew a lot of what you were talking about because obviously I'm going through a similar situation right now, I really appreciated the sublet tip because we've been worried about finding housing right away. One of my biggest concerns and obstacles has been the fact that I have a dog (and haven't started the crate training process yet) ... so really this video was just a whole lot of reassurance for me that it CAN work, and I'm really grateful you put this out.

I’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam! I have a friend who lives there :)) I’ve moved a lot too. From the US, to Singapore to Vancouver and now I’m in Germany. I really understand that feeling of being excited and looking forward to a new playground to explore. After i finish my degree I want to move to South Korea so I’m learning Korean right now. I’m sure you guys will love Amsterdam for all the reasons you listed. :))
So cute that you guys are trying to learn Dutch to be understood by the Dutch but you know that the Dutch speak English almost as well as native speakers. In Amsterdam anyway, you will be amazed at the level English is used. I can use English when calling the tax office, my insurance company, my doctor and the big hospitals and many city services. The Dutch are a very educated and and practical people. They acknowledge that Dutch is difficult to learn and the many foreigners here can’t speak it. So instead of getting all nationalistic and weird like many countries, they have opted for what works. You’ll love it here. I’ve been here for 17 years.
I am a little bit curious about how you feel/felt in the past - about moving to new cities where you maybe don’t have any friends and just being the two of you? Your thoughts and feelings about that part of moving to a new city, and also having your families in two different places? Me and my girlfriend are planning on where to live in Sweden, my family and friends are in Malmö, her family and some friends in Gothenburg and we both have some good friends in Stockholm (and the most job possibilities for me) but it is sooo hard to decide? 😅 without missing out on any of these parts. Then I see this and get so inspired by you and your positive attitude!!!

Unfortunately UA-cam isn't seen as "official" evidence for a relationship, but it should help. I am applying for a partnership visa to continue to be in NZ with my boyfriend, and for that, I need to show that we live together (lease for where we live, mail sent to the same address for both of us), letters from friends/family (to prove that others recognise your relationship), photos, some message exchanges during our relationship, and in my case, my bf and I also have a joint back account. Anyway, Alexis and Lillian have the leases, photos and letters, so it should be all good.
