Surely that top panel acts as a massive air brake? I'm surprised it they made it that way. Or maybe it's directing the air into the fan better than if it wasn't there?
Now do that with a full combat loadout and fuel tank, hint you can't.
This B model, with full fuel at max takeoff weight weighs 60k lbs., allowing for 14k lbs of payload., vs 22k lbs. for the A model. No aircraft can carry full fuel and payload at max takeoff weight; there are always concessions. But 14,000lbs means quite a few 1000 lb bombs, 500 pounders, and a couple of missiles.
The max takeoff weight for the B model isn't calculated for short unassisted take off ;)
