All my love - may your friends memory give you comfort, and what beautiful works. I lost my mom in October last by the same. I get what you saying. I actually had to promise i would buy a loom from her inheritance. And i did. An Erica loom. She loved watching me make bands on my bandweaving loom... and i did, for hours. Cancer is the (censored) worst.
Thank you for your comment, yes cancer is a cruel thief. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. The Erica loom is such a sweet loom, named after my favorite weaver (Erica de Ruiter).
I use a skinny dowel (one end a smooth rounded bullet shape) when a regular shuttle no longer fits in the shed as I near the end of a warp. That allows me to weave right up to the heddle and waste less warp. I hadn’t considered wrapping a lot of yarn and using it from the beginning, I’ll have to give that a try. Thanks! I’m happy to find your channel and will watch the draft section in this video when I have time (and brain power) to pay attention.
I love the challenge of seeing how little warp I waste! I've used the same hack to get less than 4" of waste! Let me know how the dowel works for you, I just finished a scarf and it has the most perfect selvages I have ever made.
Genius idea with the dowel. I love all your woven items. I look forward to seeing the skirt project. I personally think the colours look great and wouldn’t over dye it.
Hi Carly I really hope you are going to continue with this exploration of RHL draft notation. I have been teaching weaving in Western Australia and I’ve come up with my own notation for writing a draft. I’d love to share it with you if you’re interested because I think it overcomes some of the issues that I’ve seen so far with reading down the treadling and not having to keep referring up to the tie up. Also it’s completely symbol based and doesn’t require up and down arrows. I’m using the scientific convention for drawing something going away from you or towards you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Very nice words and very nice shawl! Did I see a circle? I have been working with circles on the loom, but without any formula, just inventing my way. I look forward to see how they can be done more technically I will peruse your other videos to see if you discuss it. Ah.... about the dowel... the only problem is the yarn twisting a lot as it leaves the dowel. Does it ever become a nuisance?
Thank you! I haven't found the extra twist to be an issue yet! I love the idea of making a video on weaving circles with inlay, I tend to weave them because I always have a bowl to trace and a piece of paper handy and they look so cool.
Thank you! It's an authentic handknit from Norway. My grandmother brought it home during a trip to see our ancestors, and it landed in my hands when she died. It wasn't my style when I was younger, but I matured into it and always wear it! This sweater style is pretty common in Norwegian knitting; I think it's a top-down yoke cardigan pattern- knit in a circle as one piece, then joined at the sides. What I love about it is that it seems like the top section of knitting is perfect, but they added increases wherever they needed them so some of the motifs are one stitch bigger than the others. It seems like they could knit these from a few notes and memorization over perfectly counted stitches.
I’m so sorry you lost your best friend. I send you love and strength.

The part about the drafts on the computer has made everything click for me, thank you!
Drafts for RH looms: This is exactly what I have been trying to wrap my head around. Thanks for posting!
So love your painted warp.

Hi Carly, I just found you. I am not weaver yet just a knitter and spinner. I love your sweater what pattern is it?

Lucky you ❤ it is beautiful!
