Proko, what exactly are you using as landmarks to identify the center line of front plane? I’m always off. Assuming 3/4 profile, Surface of nose? Base of nose? Center of lips? I’m off for some reason. I wonder if your students ever have that problem. In 3/4 profile, the center of the FRONT PLANE should be the vertical center of the “base of the nose along with the center of lips and between the eyes, right?
So far, Proko is one of the only artists I've seen that will describe a method so simply and when you try it yourself, it's actually relatively simple. Thanks so much for the help with these videos!
Look at pinterest. Screen mirror it on your TV. Draw different faces every time. I drew a vampire girl looking up towards the right today. Great training. The Loomis method really helps with correct proportions.
BRAND new artist here and this method is SO cool. I've been following along w a sketchbook, and while I only have faceless models at a variety of angles, there is so much depth in each quick sketch I'm blown away. Never thought I could draw a convincing perspective, but here I am! Still have lots to learn but this was a really fun way to learn something that seems really practical.
This lesson is timeless a year later ... 10 years from now. Really enjoy your methodology. I’m using this in my drawing and I can already see the difference. It’s improves upon what I knew.
I followed along with a small sketch pad and I can’t believe how much the facial structure in my drawings has improved… Since the planes of the face are so much easier to see in this method, colouring and shading is going to be so much easier too! I haven’t drawn in a while but this has given me the burst of motivation I needed. Thank you so much!
Self-taught artist here. I've studied Loomis a bit for a while now, even adapted his technique into something I find "more natural". But I gotta say, seeing someone else (and a much better artist than me at that) apply Loomis' methods is really (even literally) eye-opening! Thanks for all these videos! :)
@@Movie_Captions of course! But as Proko did here, you have to adjust your proportions and landmarks depending on the style you want. In my experience, predictably the eyes take up a huge space while leaving very little for the jaw and cheeks to the point where I could fit all the landmarks inside just the initial sketch circle.

I’m a true beginner, and never even heard of the Loomis Head before your videos. I’ve always shied away from any kind of figure drawing because I felt it was too hard, and for “true artists” with actual talent. I decided to finally work on learning the head and face for now (to keep me busy over the long winter ahead) and really appreciate the detail you’ve gone into with your videos. I’m the kind of person who needs to know all the “technical details” and “correct way” of doing things before I can begin to improvise from that. I’d love to know what the next steps are for people like me from here - practice yes, but starting with what?

I'm wondering why you're are being asked to teach art to _others_ when Andrew Loomis's method isn't even known to you - that hardly seems fair on you - whoever's asked you to step in and teach like this, without the necessary knowledge and experience behind you at least.

I've just been aimlessly drawing circles and lines, not really knowing what parts of the face I should be lining them up to. Looking forward to practicing later!

Man, the way you draw a perfect sphere shape is really way beyond... I'm really having a hard time to draw a sphere, not nearly perfect but sphere using the over-hand grip... before, I thought, "naah I can do it pretty easy, ever since I have learned drawing anime, but when I tried a realistic drawing like this, now I know my place... so much more to learn...
It seems like once people learn to draw a face, they all look the same except with different feature shapes. This video REALLY helps break the headshape mold. Before I always felt to scared to stray far from the "template". But now I see you can actually stray pretty far and still have a realistic normal head.
Banging out abstractions from photos is more informative than I'd have thought, because we get to see more quick iteration stuff than in the original instructionals. I wouldn't mind seeing more problem-solving/quick iteration content at some point (I love the critiques for the same reason).
This video has completely changed my perspective...now I am bit more confident to take any kind of image for my drawing..I am a beginner and have learnt so many things from your videos... Genuinely Thank-you for your amazing videos🙏🙏❤️❤️

OMG. I have been trying to draw heads and faces for so long. I can actually draw them now. My brain likes formula. It needs a formula. And this gives me my formula, pattern. And from there I can adjust it. This is the best thing ever. Something I have been struggling with for so long, I can do now. I will follow you on every video. Thank you so much for showing me this. And also notic that generally the ear is located in the bottom back quadrant of that side circle. 6:24 Also notice how that second side circle goes from about the back of the head/ear to the edge of the eye socket

The best way to learn is through experience. You won't learn how to draw by just watching tutorial but it helps you in your drawing.

That inside oriented curvature from the brow ridge to the cheek bone is still one of the hardest things to get right for me when drawing a head...
