      @ZITI Notgivingawaythisinfo I advise you to prepare a planning system before starting med school. Have a planner or calender, use sticky notes and highlighters and boards. Discover your preferred studying method & note taking.
      For me the best method was studying the lecture & then having an empty paper to write down notes as a recap. I also used color coding system i.e. each highlighter color corresponds to an item in the subject I’m studying.
      One more thing is, know your resources and what subjects require textbooks. For me the only textbook that I benefitted from in preclinical is Moore’s Clinical Anatomy, and for clinical I used Nicholas history and physical exam, during rotations I used Oxford yellow handbook. You might use more or less or different resources based on your curriculum.
      Having an iPad and apple pencil is soooo helpful during preclinical
      Some useful tips that may work for you
      1. Some subjects require study groups, like history and physical exam sessions
      2. Pomodoro technique is useful in solo studying sessions
      I hope my words are helpful to you and best of luck in your journey

      @ZITI Notgivingawaythisinfo You mean prior to entering med school ? I don’t recommend you to study anything. I would recommend that you acquaint yourself of the curriculum and system of your medical school, ask for the experience of peers who just finished 1st and 2nd years of your med school. After that just know how you plan the year and study. As I said, the only prep to do in the summer is having a planning system. Remember that medicine is a lifelong journey of learning, so don’t rush it and enjoy this vacation. The upcoming summer vacations, after starting medical school and diving deeper into it, you might set a goal to study for medical license exam during summers.
      Note : I am a senior medical student now ! My 6th year. It has been a long beautiful journey

      @ZITI Notgivingawaythisinfo As someone currently nearer to where you're at (doing pre-med undergrad now), and returning to college after a decade out of it so definitely rusty, personally I've been hurting from lack of math skills more than anything else. Always been strong on math concepts in the abstract but not actual techniques. I'm used to reasoning my way through anything off pure cleverness but I've hit walls in chemistry etc. where I can reason my way to a right answer but it takes me forever to do it the long way because I don't know the basic math shortcuts.
      So that's me personally. I'd say identify your weak spots in math and science and brush up on those. It's very individual. I also want to piggyback off the "be prepared for the META part and prepare your methods and be informed about the logistics and administrative end" theme of the other commenter's statements, and say these things are incredibly important in undergrad too. For instance, know how long your college gives you to drop a class and swap it for something else before census is locked in. Some professors will be badly organized clusterf*cks and you'll be able to tell their class is a lot of effort to deal with due to dumb specific rules or badly organized content etc. and you never want to be spending so much time figuring out what's going on in a class/what's expected of you that it takes away from being able to focus on the material itself.
      Other examples of things to be literate about ahead of time are financial aid questions, transfer credit questions, independent study or study abroad etc. options, how you can make use of a minor or double major strategically, how your school's accessibility department works in case you get sick for a long period or have or develop any disabilities (e.g. I have brutal ADHD and I get cut slack on deadlines so I don't destroy my GPA from having trouble maintaining routines/sleep schedules/function sometimes), things like that. Dig into finding every detail about all that stuff that you can. It'll save you a lot of stress later when you don't have to try hard to navigate all the meta while also in classes.
      And like other homie said above, know how you like to take notes, know what tools you like to use (e.g. I love Rocketbooks for some notes and spreadsheets for others), know what file organization you want to have to keep all your school content in a consistent and useful way (trust me, save your notes for the long term! Save lecture recordings! Pirate .PDFs of any textbooks that you don't already have in a permanent downloadable e-format! Make Anki decks of everything you learn! File it all away neatly as it comes into your life! I can't shout loudly enough about just hoarding all the info you can, you're paying for it and all that material will be valuable later, especially if it's neatly digitally kept!)
      Final thing I'll say is look into alternative college credit options to speed your way through school. Idk if you're in the USA but if you are definitely look into things like AP classes and CLEP tests.
      I hope that's helpful!

    Hi! Even I'm interested in IR but I had a doubt regarding its future.
    Many of the cases are overlapping with the surgery field also. Then how does a patient end up coming to an IR guy rather than a surgeon? I mean these procedures can be easily done by a surgeon or few years down later they might venture into this field.
    So basically my question is how does a patient decide he's wanna get his procedure done by an IR and not by surgeon?

    Can you comment on work hours between being an IR versus a DR?

    • @DrJonDrChris
      @DrJonDrChris  5 років тому +2

      Depends entirely on the job you end up accepting. Generally IRs will work out of hospitals and cover call, but I know some IRs who have carved out a fairly boutique all outpatient based practice and work 9-5 and don't take call. I also know some DRs who work over night call shifts so it depends. IR has a lot of extra work that may not directly generate revenue like rounding on your patients, giving informal opinions to clinicians, offering to do low RVU procedures for the DR folks because we can do them a bit faster, etc.

    Hi Jon and Chris! I am a 4th year medical student in Bulgaria. I am interested in radiology and especially in interventional radiology. But my major concern is the radiation that I would be exposed to. You are wearing protective gear but how high is the radiation exposure of an interventional radiologist? Is it dangerously high? Does it affect you somehow and can you feel it? Can you make a video or comment on that subject. Thank you :)

    • @chrislifts2981
      @chrislifts2981 2 роки тому +1

      they have radiation badges to measure exposure and can only have a certain amount of exposure per year, also they wear a ton of protective equipment ie. lead etc. I think the life expectancy is the same as to non- IR docs

    No offense at all, but working 16 hours a day is incredibly stupid IMHO. Here in Austria the maximum amount is 48 hours a week which is fine.
    Personally I definitely don't want someone performing a surgery on me who worked that insane amount of hours...

    herzlich willkommen . Ich hoffe, dass Sie zwei schönen Mädchen helfen werden, sich ihrem Alter anzupassen. Vier jahre Fast. Sie krabbeln auf dem Bauch. In Bewegung auf ihren Beinen kann aber nicht laufen. Es gibt Hoffnung. In dem Prozess. Ihr Vater hat keine Möglichkeiten und er hat bereits an Magen und Hernie gearbeitet, und der Arzt hindert ihn daran, das Gewicht zu tragen, das den Kummer seiner beiden Töchter trägt. Weil der Prozess außerhalb des Landes abläuft. Kannst du diesen beiden Kindern helfen, Videos auf UA-cam zu haben? Um ihren Zustand zu sehen. Ein Arzt kann außerhalb des Landes sein. Ich habe versucht, meine Botschaft so gut wie möglich von mir zu bekommen. Ich hoffe du hast es gelesen. Meine nachricht Und dass diese beiden Kinder die Möglichkeit hätten zu gehen.
