Join American Battlefield Trust Chief Historian Garry Adelman as he explores the story of the battle, the boulder-strewn landscape, and why this area became known as Devil's Den.

I like how you bring it, don't worry about the haters or the people say you talk to fast. YOU ARE FANTASTIC at what you do.
Yes absolutely… I couldn’t agree more.👍
I've never found this subject interesting, truly. I'm watching this guy, and NOW it's important, nay IMPERATIVE, to understand what the heck happened here! :)
I can't say it better..so what you said ❤
Here. Here. He is awesome
Get off the haters BS, people have diverse opinions, that’s freedom 🇺🇸🤦🏼
As a Canadian I didn't have any interest in the civil war period. One visit to Gettysburg on a motorcycle trip and this place got under my skin. What an amazing town. You can really feel the history there. I have been a civil war buff ever since I rode through this area and walked through the Devils den area .I highly recommend traveling to this area but look into it before you go, there are multiple ways to see the battlefields.
Don’t listen to those haters. You do A GREAT Job.
You have to tell it with enthusiasm & energy.
You’re probably the best, being able to do all that without overdoing it @ all as well, but all of you are very, very good @ this , Story Telling. Great History lessons right here on this Ch. Love it.
Don't change for a few haters Gary. You and all the guests are doing a great job. 👍
I second this motion!
Love the energy and the passion!!!! Matches all of us, and always feeds!!!
Don’t change Gary .Your enthusiasm is great …
Don't change bro! It's you and your genuine! Next time I see you and your speaking slow I would think something is wrong lol. May your powder be dry and your day blessed!
Gary you and the other presenters are great. Lots of good information I didn’t know. Keep it coming.
I saw Gary speak during a tour he had at the 150th. It was at the Devils Den. I just happen to be in the right place at the right time. He was awesome and this is how I'm here with ABT today.
Great job Gary! Love your passion.
I like Gary’s energy. Different flow. Gary is a good broadcaster! Go for it buddy! Thanks
Garry don't stop being you - that is the enjoyment of these videos! I agree with you in this is one of the more interesting locales that make the second day fighting so desperate and fierce.
Garry, I actually bought your book on Devil's Den on July 3, 2001 signed by both Tim and you. It was my very first Battlewalk and I've been a fan ever since. Thanks for all you do to keep History alive!
Gary, I love your enthusiastic presentation/speaking style! You're my favorite on this channel.
0 💯💪💪 I
💪💪
Great presentation as always Gary. The day you filmed this, I was the tall guy in the red kepi trying to stay out of your way by the 99th Pennsylvania monument and below the big rocks of Devils Den. I'm a patient guy who likes to take the time to listen to others speak. Great video.
Glad you got to view twice!
I remember! GA
Wow, I wish I could share everything that I have learned about the civil war over the last 30years like Gary does he
Is a genius. A true American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You all are some of the best history teachers I've ever listened to.
Garry is soooooooooo good at teaching. Full of energy and loves his job.
Gary, Keep being you sir. The way you speak is absolutely fantastic. I love it and can’t get enough of it. 🙏
Love this guy. Joined the Battlefield Trust yesterday.
Thanks!
Garry Adelman is a force of nature! His enthusiasm is contagious. You couldn't find a better person to do his job.
Love this years video's ... hard to believe how hard it must have been to move and fight in that hot, humid, oppressive heat ... yet both sides saw it as a pivotal engagement .... both sides fought valiantly ... brother fighting brother ... each side believing their cause was just ... RIP to all that were lost
You two guys are awesome to listen to! Keep up the great work!! 👏👏👏
Keep the excitement coming, Garry. You're doing a great job. Thanks for your objectivity in telling both sides of the story.
I believe i could drink a few beers with this guy...
This is way more interesting than history class!
The amount of passion and information you're spewing is fantastic! Thank you!
Howdy from San Antonio to the ‘Gate Keeper!” Great job y’all! 🙏🏼
I love Gettysburg and visit several times each year from Pittsburgh. I thought I knew the battle and what happened. But your videos are like what 1000 gold bar would look like to a bank robber. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THESE VIDEOS. Please please please make more.
NO SUCH THING AS USELESS INFORMATION.I truly love to hear anything that Gary wants to offer.
Watching from England, the stories are fantastic and your enthusiasm makes it so interesting. Would love to visit one day.
Loving these videos thank you from the UK, hoping to one day make it over to Gettysburg.
Speaking fast is a PA thing. I understood you perfectly. Keep up the good work
Keep talking fast Mr. Adelman! Love the energy!
Ramming speed!!
Thanks so much Garry! Your enthusiasm and expertise is much appreciated!!
I love this stuff!!!! Thank you so much for all that you guys are doing!!!
I love your energy. I was never very interested in military history until I started to watch your videos. You’re fantastic!!!! Love your energy:)
Probably the best presentation on Devil's Den I've ever seen.
I love the energy in these videos, such an amazing story that is the battle of Gettysburg.
Just love this channel...and honestly i LOVE how Gary is so fast to give fascinating stories!! WELL DONE, KEEP IT UP!
This is the in-depth, on-site perspective of this part of the battlefield that I have always wanted to get. Thank you to all involved for capturing this!
I really enjoy these videos. The enthusiasm and genuine passion of the guides for the topics, adds to the enjoyment.
I was just there yesterday on Memorial day weekend for my first time ever. This place is HUGE and throughout my day with my wonderful family i couldn't help to keep thinking we are walking where all these soldiers fought and died!! Absolutely need to be seen in person and def walk up the towers to see a better view of just how big this place is. Thanks for the cool video!!!!
this guide is awesome ...on our visit 13 years ago our guide was good but this guy is GREAT
These walks really help me understand the movements much much better!
This was absolutely my favorite site when visiting Gettysburg as a child and a grown adult! Was just there four years ago! The sharpshooters I always think played a massive role in winning these battles. Incredible stuff.
Just made the trip to Gettysburg. Going back and for third time with grandchildren in the future.
I was here when I was a kid and want to visit again. Absolutely love this battlefield and Antietam
Folks just have to accept that you get excited about the subject matter so you have an inherent tendency to speak quickly to impart as much information as possible! Thank GOD for our differences in person and personality!
With respect, we're Hoosiers. I've never used Indianian.
Amazing content! Garry, you are a walking battlefield encyclopedia, my friend. Love the facts and anecdotes, so much detail! I look forward to seeing the rest of what you all have on offer for us.
Thank you for all you do!
I live in a battlefield area from ww2 and there is nothing left of it but some signs. its nice to see how everything there is still there in gettysburg, cant get any closer to how it must have been then that
Good show guys. Sorry to hear about the recent monument defamation. Saddening people can be so obtuse. Me and my father will be in Gettysburg for a few days at the end of july, and the knowledge your association is putting out for us makes me that much more interested and excited to see these locations for myself. Coming from an American infantry veteran, thank you for sharing the history of my brotherhood and hope to see you when I get there
I ABSOLUTELY ENJOY THE LEVEL OF ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM THAT GARY BRINGS TO THE TABLE..... GETS ME EXCITED ABOUT WHAT EACH VIDEO HAS TO OFFER.....😊
My ancestor Sgt David Alva Barnett of Company B 99th Pennsylvania fought in this area.
This is excellent Gary, was really hoping you would do these lives from Gettysburg again this year. Excellent content. Hi from the Highlands of Scotland!
WOW….What an amazing job they have done of restoring that area.
A cleanup job and preservation , restoration Job to the land itself. Beautiful, amazing, Great job.
I definitely think %💯 that keeping it all as close to how it was during the battle is the best option to keep people even more interested in wanting to see it and come see it in person for ourselves.
So that we can get as close a feel as possible, to attempt to see it as clearly as possible.
Really such A Great job of cleaning things up around there.
Recent videos already look so different. Great job with clean up & preservation. Thank you.
Gettysburg is beautiful and hallow. Wonderful tour experience for me and my family and even my Jack Russell Terrier. We just love it!
This video...one word. MAGNIFICENT.
I like when you speak fast. Passionate and inspiring. You have made what I used to think was boring come alive with your descriptions and explanations.
Wonderful presentation by you. Your enthusiasm and passion are amazing. I wish there was some way to protect the grounds from vandalism, but I know it is quite accessible.
Gary, you make history come alive. I missed this one, have seen alot of your videos. You're the best!
for everyone that says something negative there are 100 people who think positive and don't take the time to say it. our narcissism makes us hear the negative comments and ignore all the unsaid positive thoughts that must exist for your channel to be successful. don't change a thing. also, you're rick moranis' twin.
This was the absolute best narrative. You really made it so clear for me to visualize. Thank you Sir for doing what you do...Keep being you.
Just out of shoulder rehab! And enjoying the Gettysburg coverage! Keep it going Gary!
Love Devils Den, on of my favorites! Love that whole area from Little around Top to down there! SSSSickels🐍
Wow. This was amazing... I'm not going to lie... I was a little freaked out by the energy in previous videos, but this one really got to me... In a good way... thank you, guys!
These videos are an amazing glimpse at our sad history …
Fantastic presentation, delivered with passion and a thorough knowledge base. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
Super informative...been to the battlefield three times, including the 100th and 125th anniversary, but I learn a bunch of new stuff every time I watch one of these...great job
I enjoy your cadence, and your knowledge and enthusiasm, but your manner of speaking fits for me. I’m a southerner and I’d expect nothing less than a northerner to give me a tour of Gettysburg. It adds to the authenticity I think. The same as I’d expect a southerner to give a tour of a southern battlefield.
Greetings from New Orleans Louisiana, thank you for the wonderful presentation. Wish I was with you there.
Thank you, Gary, this was terrific!
Gary does an outstanding job!
Man I would love to have been there while you describe the battle. Gary I love your enthusiastic talks. Don't slow down! Haha!
I’m a Yankee living in the south. It’s nice to hear your speech pattern, I miss it.
Would absolutely love to visit the civil war battle sights, it fascinates me. However living in Australia I don't think it will happen, maybe a retirement bucket list trip. Great video.
Nothing beats the real thing but we're glad our trips can make a good replacement for you!
Looks beautiful...thanks for your efforts...expat American and amazed by Gettysburg
I subbed.. U get straight to the history... Love the enthusiasm.. Forget the decaf lol..
Greetings from the UK. Love these videos, hoping to visit Gettysburg in the future when Little Round Top reopens.
Thanks for your enthusiasm and don't change a thing! Great job folks.
No, Garry, don't give up coffee and don't go de-caf. After listening to so many of your videos now, I can actually say I've grown used to the auctioneer's delivery, and prefer it now to a normal person droning on interminably. Don't change a thing. Keep it coming fast and strong. It's a good thing to make us struggle a bit to keep up.
Thank you so much! I truly enjoyed your video. Love your enthusiasm & delivery. I'm exhausted just watching you! Bless your heart 💕. I would love to visit. Great!
One of my favorite units at Gettysburg-Elijah Walker and the 4th Maine!
I for one really like the enthusiasm you bring
Perfectly narrated, as usual. Great job!
Hi! I'm in love with Gettysburg and have been for years. Even though I have a degree in History and have a firm background in Civil War history, I've always struggled understanding the dynamics of the battle. The length of the battle and complexity of the battlefield are daunting! Your videos are extremely helpful! Thank you!
Love the enthusiasm !!
I've walked the Texans advance a few times. Its quite rewarding from a learning standpoint. The other thing you get is wet feet, twisted ankles and 3,000 ticks!
Salute to those Texans! Some tough hombres! You need to walk it though to deeper understand the (negative) nuances of that assault.
Thats a casual underestimate of the amount of ticks...
Love your videos, your zeal and your knowledge. Thank You
Took my (8) yr. old Niece up there to DEVIL's DEN with a WONDERFUL!!!!!! Gettysburg Tour Guide. She looked around and walked around a bit, looked at the TOUR GUIDE and said to him:
"Why would they come up here? This was a SUICIDE MISSION!!!". The Tour Guide tried to explain their reasoning and she repeated her words.
No, she was only (8) yrs. old at the time with NO FORMAL MILITARY TRAINING!!!! The Tour Guide turned to me, and said "WOW! This Little girl is very, very intelligent! The troops could have used her then...."
Wasn’t able to watch all these live due to work but am trying to catch up now - can’t say enough how much I’ve enjoyed these! I made my first trip to the battlefield a few weeks ago on Memorial Day weekend and am dying to get back so these videos are an absolute treat. Well done!
Glad this video exists what with Devils Den being closed this year. Loved the video. You speak fast and therefore cover a lot of ground. Awesome!
Garry, you're fine with the "large basketball" comment. The NCAA women's basketball is slightly smaller than the one used by the men. As usual, you're precision is perfection!
Two of my Confederate ancestors who were in the 20th Georgia Infantry Regiment part of Bennings brigade fought at Devils Den at Gettysburg
Phenomenal presentation. Thought I knew a lot about the battle. Thanks for bringing it to life so well!!
Brilliant Explanation of the Battle! Thank You Garry and Chris the Camera Man !
These videos are so painfully incredible. The energy, the maps, the presentation. Just incredible!
I might have to use that: painfully incredible!
Great work David. Please don’t change. You make things interesting.
These videos are just superb. Maybe in the future you'd consider wearing a mic on your shirt for better audio. Regardless, Garry is the best tour guide I've seen do Gettysburg!
Very interesting. These videos are great pre-visit primers!
I truly value this presentation, your enthusiasm and knowledge. Thank you very much.
Awesome as usual. Thank you for doing these. Look forward to them every year. Ignore the wind haters!
Very educational. Thank you
