As a Bulls fan, I miss the days when we used to bully Giannis and get him out of character, getting him ejected from the games and shit. Then he went all MVP and shit ain't ever been this same. With Wemby, as long as he stays healthy and out of his own way, there's no reason he couldn't have a similar trajectory as Giannis.
Globalization happened too. The pool of players is so much more competitive now. Just look at what South Sudan did as one tiny example of the global quality.
With the larger pool of players, you get these generational, physical marvels with size who also have offensive skills now (Jokic, Embiid, Giannis, Luka, Wemby, Porzingis, Markannen, Siakam, Horford, Lopez, Middleton, Tatum) that make them super tough to guard. You add physicality to the game, too, and these mfs can eat defensively as well. Their size and length is to their advantage. Outside of Lopez and Horford who are up there in age, there's no reason why any of the others I named shouldn't be *always* in the MVP mix year after year.
I think an underrated reason behind the offensive explosion is that players are *way* better at playing 0.5 basketball. Catch and shoot, drive, or pass, which keeps the defense behind the play.
Yeah the players are just more skilled overall. I mean look at the lineups. It's usually 4 guys that can make threes (sometimes Five guy) and then a Rim Runner at the 5. It's essentially the Steve Nash Suns on steroids.
@@tyrismaxey20 years ago there were guards and wings getting heavy rotation minutes who could not finish with both hands.Could not hit a long distance threes(even though most teams were fine with letting them shoot and they had space) could not reliably dribble with their off hand. No defense sure helps! Bring back hand checking and let's see how skilled these guys are. And offensive fouls need to be called. Lebalco stiff arming ppl in the face and getting an and 1...wtf
Marc Gasol & Ibaka was not only able to defend & rebound but they could shoot 3's & play make, especially Gasol. Without Gasol defending Embiid & off course NN coaching Raps wouldn't beat Sixers in the ECSF despite Kawhi's offensive output. But everyone love to.act like it was Kawhi alone who made Raps win in 2019.
The Gasol trade was instrumental. An obvious upgrade to who Valenciunas was then (and arguably now). Also gave the Raps their real smart and physical big who handled not only Embiid but Brooke Lopez. I don't think the Raps get an opportunity to push games against the Sixers/Bucks playoffs without Gasol.
Would be nice seeing the 3 sec. rule removed, travelling and offensive fouls actually being called. Then it would be interesting seeing the scores and who the actual super stars are.
Bill: Yah they changed the rules, we got rid of rim protection and we stopped enforcing basic rules. But I don't know why we have this offensive explosion Everyone: 😐
They forget to mention the obvious that offense efficiency is up because no one plays D, no travels are called, constant fouls, and rule changes on top of better shooting.
Jalen Brunson will not struggle with rule changes. He is a physical player that can score from anywhere. Its the other guys that are going to struggle.
This suggests the numbers are INFLATED due to how the game is called and could easily be reigned in or allowed to expand depending on future trends with the rule book. Clearly has little to do with "everyone can shoot the ball now" or "players are more talented" because Lebron James in 2014-15 was FAR MORE DOMINANT OFFENSIVELY than he is today--this includes his playmaking. Obviously to compare the 16-17 warriors with the 23-24 Lakers is done to DISPLAY this. That Steph, KD team was the best Warriors team, arguably ever--they have a history with Wilt and Rick Barry, of course lol 6:55
The reason the NBA has issues with games either being too physical which leads to low scoring and injuries vs too "soft" which leads to high scoring games and crazy stats....is because they don't officiate properly and they allow the offense to walk. Wish The Ringer gave the WNBA more attention. Their playoffs are on right now and the 4 best players are all in the semi-finals and it's fantastic basketball.
I don't think the league is more talented per se, it's just that the officiating has gotten us to a point where good defenders are less valuable. Great defenders are less capable of affecting winning in this era, so when given the choice teams are always picking and playing the scorer with bad defence over the great defender. Compare Buddy Hield and Tony Allen. In previous eras I think Tony Allen affected winning more than Hield, in this era that has flipped. Teams are built around offense because the league has decided that defence doesnt matter
