Marion Turash was my Mom before I came along and she became Marion Canellis. She passed away in 2004. She was an amazing bowler and an even more amazing Mother. She was and always will be my hero. :')
If your Mother could have bowled against some of the more Modern-day Lady Bowlers, I'll bet she'd show 'em a thing or two! Your Mother was indeed an excellent Bowler! I also love the way she was dressed-In a long dress, and with sleeves. She was a lovely lady to look at, and to watch bowl. She struck me as being modest, beautiful, and decent in her attire, as well as in the way that she carried herself. May God cause her to rest in his loving care!
Great bowling. Penmanship back In the day was beautiful. Derosa’s footwork at the foul line is excellent and her whole game looks “modern” from back in 1957🙂
DeRosa Has a very modern power player style with that really high backswing, which was extremely rare then...especially for a woman..way ahead of her time for sure.
A huge world of difference between the scoring sheets of yesteryear, and the computerized scoring apparatuses of today. Also:When you get to the 10th frame on these scoring sheets, it looks like they don't count the tenth frame points as part of the game. Also:It appears that they don't bowl all the way through the 10th frame back then, like they do today...or am I wrong?
This was great to watch! I am guessing this was around 1955? If Georgette was a Senior in high school in 1951 and was 22 during this tournament. My parents were still in high school (both graduated high school in 1957) and had yet to meet. Lol
bowled against Georgette's husband Fred in the 60's they were a great pair and those lanes had a great reputation in the city of Chicago for scoring nice watching her bowl again.
@@irishpogi thank you so much, could you tell me where I could find that? I would love to connect with you on there. My mother passed away 3 wks ago, and I am finding any and all information to add to her collection of bowling history. Thank you!
Does anyone have the video of Bobby Cooper of Dallas bowing on ABC TV in a PBA event and having his pants becoming unraveled. It was about 1962-63? I first saw Bobby at Hart Bowl on Northwest Highway in Dallas. He was tossing the green plastic Columbia and wearing house shoes and carrying the ball in its' original box. He threw a 300 versus my man's 290. One game for $100.
@@s1mon72 Hello Charlie, nice to hear from you! We still have lots of pictures of you with my mother at events. Thank you for the kind words about my parents. My dad is doing well and always shares the best memories with us about the bowling years. Hope your family is well!

Yes thank you for sharing this with our family, it's fun watching our Mother Georgette DeRosa bowl even if she didn't win the match!
Thanks to irishpogi for posting this. I've never seen this video and it's wonderful to see my Mom in her prime. :')
Thank you also irishpogi for posting this video, my mother is Georgette DeRosa. I can't wait to share this with our family!
The announcers dramatic reactions on this video are priceless I wish people still got this hyped up for bowling.
This was fun to watch. Thanks for posting it. I wish Turash had bowled Salvino.
Marion and Georgette, thank you for pioneering women's bowling for us! You both rock!
Am always reminded how far we've fallen since such videos were recorded.
Who's fallen?
So many things about this video I love! Great post thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!

There's an axiom that applies here. "Imitation is the best source of flattery!" Just look at how similar Georgette's game is to Marion Ladewig!
@@irishpogi Or even Pete Weber.

Amazing bowlers, for sure! Those who showed us the ladies can do it, and do it well! Thanks for the video!
DeRosa w that Pete Weber backswing A thing of beauty.
Actually, it would be Pete Weber with a DeRosa backswing.
@@JG-vh6mn No doubt! ( ;;
Love the gasps on the open frames. lol
Holy smokes! Turash is a bowling machine!
How about that backswing!
I like her just because of that backswing. No dainty drawing-room miss, that one!
These gals are amazing! Unbelievable that Marion scored a 687 on those lane conditions. What a brickyard! Jason Belmonte would average 175 here..
How about Georgette's back swing? It's like Pete Weber's. Amazing. She was 30 years ahead of her time.
she was definitely known for her back swing, we have some great action pictures!

I am sorry about your mom's passing George. Thanks for the note.
I liked the AMF spots also!
Nice to see REAL bowling on legitimate conditions with legitimate equipment. Also welcome is the commentary without the word "arsenal"!
Some people feel that a bowling ball made of any material other than stone or wood is illegitimate..............
And no chanting from the audience, like "Pick---it---up! Pick---it---up!" for a simple spare.
@@greghoppe3973
Some people think such an asinine comment is smart. Although those are only the people who make the asinine comment.
@@christopherdunne7848 👍😀
You are correct!
It's the same pair of lanes that featured the late Steve Nagy's perfect game from a few years prior

@@ronaldshank7589 There is a box after the 10th frame. That's what you're seeing. A total box.

Awesome 82-30's in action.
Thank you so much for this video! Bowling...When it was a game.
Any time!
Turash has the Dick Weber approach and delivery! DeRosa was all about Marshall Holeman & Mark Roth! Both great bowlers!!
I think DeRosa was more like the dominant woman bowler during that era the late Marion Ladewig
Since those people came after DeRosa, it's more about them emulating her.

I would feel shame if I missed a single pin spare. No excuse for that. Missing those ez ones cost Turash the 700.
Hilarious and they haven't even started bowling yet.
Marion Turash does not throw the ball like trash.
