- New day, new island! Today, we are taking an early morning ferry to Sikinos, one of the lesser known Cycladic islands, west from Ios, east from Folegandros. Our stay is shortened by a storm and as we are in September, many places are already closed. But the island reveals its charm to us and we discover a beautiful scenic destination. A new favourite?

Thank you for shedding light on our wonderful island paradise! I am born and raised in Canada but my grandparents immigrated here from Sikinos in the early 60's. During busy season there can be up to 3500 people on the island (many foreigners own homes there) but during low season you will only find anywhere from 100-300 people permanently living on the island. The winery is called Manalis and is owned by my uncle George Manalis and his son Loucas. The restaurant by the port in Alopronia is owned by my grandmother's brother and his wife. I went to visit a few years ago with my family and can't wait to go back! A very quiet, beautiful little island I am lucky to have experienced. Thank you for another great video! I love Sikinos and have stayed there twice, both times in Alopronia. On our first trip we stayed in a wonderful apartment on the rocks above the sea and it was lovely to listen to the little waves under our window at night.
The views from Kastro and Chorio and the monastery are really stunning - nicer than Santorini, I think, but so much quieter.

What a wonderful picture you paint. Both my parents are from Sikinos and the young man below is my nephew. My parents moved to Canada for a better life ( I know it's funny ) and my brother and i were born there. In 1969 we visited to meet our grand parents and fell in love with this little paradise. Recently my mother gave me a tiny little house in Alopronia which my husband and i turned into a 2 storey home for our family and friends to enjoy. When you sit at the Meltemi cafe and look across and up, the second to last house at the top should have a Canadian and Greek flag outside, this means we are there and would love to have coffee with you, lol. You should come back though cause you've missed the treasure of Episkopi, the ancient Mausoleum of the Roman Era (250 aD) that still stands there, functioning as a church where archaeologists discovered last year the remains of the woman that it was built for. One of a kind (please google Episkopi Sikinos)

Water in the quite dry cycladic Islands is scarce. The island does not nt have rivers etc. So they try to save as much water as they can. Maybe that is why the served the cake in a plastic plate with a plastic fork.
Thank you for your comment. It is certainly true what you say about the scarceness of the water. Many islands have desalination factories today which is a solution to the water scarceness issue. Also, there are other options than plastic (which will never disappear from nature) such as pam leaf plates, or corn starch forks and other utensils. Let's do what we can to stop polluting.
@@TheWayWeSawIt Indeed there other materials available that do not pollute. Unfortunately they are quite more expensive than plastic. But if I'm not wrong disposable plastics will be banned in greece also. Already supermarkets are not selling plastic straws.

I was there in 2015 begining off june and everything was all most closed on Apolopronia, and there was a storm, but i like Sikinos.

As two French women disappeared there 2 months ago do u think is it possible that they fell ? because I looked at many pictures on google and I don't have the impression that we can fall from a height… moreover, after numerous searches, no trace of the two women... except the vegetation is not dense... maybe you know a dense place?
Beautiful vlog, if you have to recommend one island in Greece which one would it be, I don’t like popular places.
Thank you for watching. Every Cycladic island is somewhat popular, especially during the season and all of them are very different. From the least popular ones, Koufunissi and Amorgos are real favourites alongside with Anafi and Sikinos. But even Naxos, although very popular, is a wonderful island. Safe travels, always!

The islands of Sikinos and Anafi are very different, if you look for nature, hiking and intimate island life, Anafi is probably nicer, Sikinos is a bit more developed and has more options where to stay. Also, there are probably more people on Sikinos as it is easier to reach.

What do you think about the beaches of Sikinos are they any better than Folegandros' ?
Thank you for your question. In Folegandros the beaches have probably a little bit bigger pebbles and Sikinos has more finer sand. Also, in Folegandros, depending on where you are staying, you will need transportation to get to the beaches. But both have very beautiful and calm settings.
