  • This video demonstration will show you how to create a particle flow system along with some other animation fun that can simulate objects plopping into a sludgy mud or pea soup of sorts.

    Hey Clint! Nice tut!
Let me ask....which scale units you used in this tutorial? How to configure that?
    Thx in advance!

+Sonny Burnett When I'm working with particles I almost always use the Generic Units setting in Max. You can find them by going to the Customize menu, and then Units Setup... I have mine set to Generic Units, and in the system unit setup, I have them set to 1 unit = 1 inch (one of these days I'll have to be a little less tragically American and use the metrics system eh?). Hope that answers your question and helps! =)

That is a very specific shot, and in the effects industry would probably require some extra software like Rayfire for broken bits and pieces, and maybe even fumefx for smoke and flames, and some good compositing software. I try to avoid doing specifics because they can get very long, and it limits the uses that the instruction provides to a specific shot.
That being said I will definitely add to the top of my list of requests a tutorial on using Mparticles to deform / crunch and crack a rigid surface like metal and plastic!
