As long as there have been streets, there have been street musicians and performers. Whether they were raised in New York City or in a country with its own street performing tradition, they are helping to carry on a respected urban tradition.
Central Park was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1962, which in April 2017 placed it on the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage sites.
