    My one and so far only visit was in December 1980 for Christmas and New Year’s.
    I was 20 and so excited to be in The City. How I wish I could rewind the clock and experience that era again. 🌹

    Thank you for this wonderful video. I lived in New York for 5 years from 1989, so I enjoyed it very much as many of the scenes are familiar to me. I am also making my own documentary about New York City in the early 1990s, so it was very interesting to watch.

    “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” was released on November 25, 1987 and was filmed in New York City, so this is the New York City of that time.

      While living in New York, I found that movie to be the most uncomfortable to watch. Anyone in NYC who commuted on a daily basis might how found this movie very taxing to say the least!

      @@ToddMcDurmont why? because of the pre-Thanksgiving rush hour to get a cab? Lol 😂 it didn’t look too bad, except for maybe the scene on Park Avenue when the yellow cab runs over his briefcase… the lawyer who offered to give his cab up for $75 was funny but stretching believability…. :)

    Is it me who recently had a kind of obsessive frustration at not having lived in NYC in the 80's / 90's or having had the opportunity to live in NYC? knowing that we cannot go back in those years and that the nyc of his years there completely changed the cars the clothes the habits of the people of his years I find it almost sad in a way and the networks have destroyed this human relationship

      I remember going to NYC in the 80's quite a bit as a kid. One of the strangess things I've noticed and kind of missed in an odd way when I went back is that it doesn't smell the same and the lights are different lol. Back in the day there was more of a food/smoke smell happening with eerie yellow lights that were comfortable on the eyes. Now all the lights remind me of those white prison yard lights.

    The most noticeable difference from today in nyc is the style of the yellow cabs. And the name on the 30 Rock building.

    • @ToddMcDurmont
      @ToddMcDurmont  7 років тому +6

      Oh wow! There is no doubt I passed by you many times! I'll bet you had your hands full with all that expensive jewelry. That's pretty cool! Hey, I did buy a couple of fake Cartier watches off the street for lady friends back home. They LOVED them. Of course I told them that they were fake and believe it or not, they worked for several years! Nothing like the real thing though!

    • @antrod8014
      @antrod8014 7 років тому +6

      Yeah. The fake Cartier watches were being sold on top of blankets along 42nd street, Lol. Now you need a permit to sell anything.

    • @ToddMcDurmont
      @ToddMcDurmont  7 років тому +5

      If you look at the Times Square footage I took, you'll briefly see one of those fake watch hustlers, displaying those watches. It got so bad that you could buy in bulk, down around 14th and Canal, in China Town. I never did but I bought a few holiday gifts. They were a hit...until they quit!! LOL!
