I see your counters show some wear. :-) My original 3rd Reich needed replacement as some of my counters became barely legible. Especially the German units. That comes with playing the game over and over. I liked this game.
I agree very good explaining how the attack works. Overall this is how it is done, but I should mention Julian is cheating, the first German air unit he used to counter air the Polish airforce should have been turned over and then he could not use it again in the attack. The other German air unit that he should have used was 5 hexes away and that is the unit he should have used, but it is in the wrong city. It would have been better to place it in Dresden (the city south of Berlin), and that could have been used to do the same ground support. But otherwise a good example of how the attack and exploitation works. We want more.
Very nice, we need such videos, especially for these worthy old games people find so intimidating. There were some holes in this one. The explaination of the air missions over the combat hex was hurried and left out some points. You didn't mention that the armor that participated in the initial attack could not then exploit. Are you really poking the game with a ballpoint pen?
I own Third Reich and am considering getting Empire of the Rising Sun. Would it be possible to adapt this game to play a global war with the (non advanced) Third Reich or would it be impossible? I'd really not want to buy Advanced Third Reich if I don't have to. If its possible, how would I go about doing that? Thanks.
Played this game for years and years !! But still kinda confused about the rule for baltic states if Germany does not pull back from the partion after attacking Poland Russia does not get the 25 brp 4 baltic and has to pay 2 declare war on Germany .. sounds right ???
If Germany violates the Nazi-Soviet pact by leaving units in eastern Poland after its Fall 1939 turn, then Russia is free to declare war on Germany on any subsequent turn for 35 BRPs. Russia will not be able to obtain the 25 BRPs for the East Europe area unless and until it captures all of the cities in the area, including those in the Baltic States and eastern Poland. Germany can violate the pact and occupy eastern Polish cities but it obtains no economic benefit for doing so, and at the cost of allowing early Russian entry into the war. It also cannot prevent Russia from declaring war on the remaining parts of East Europe (Baltic States and Bessarabia) and occupying those areas. If Germany breaks the pact in 1939 then Russia decides not to immediately declare war, it has until the end of the year to take the rest of the East Europe areas. Otherwise, from Spring 1940 Germany can separately declare war on the Baltics and Bessarabia becomes part of Rumania proper. It seems more likely that a violation of the pact would occur as part of an immediate declaration of war by Germany on Russia. No sensible German player would otherwise want that threat of a Russian DOW when trying to subdue the Western Allies.

P.S. The air units are marked by a symbolic propeller, it just looks like an infinity sign.
Beach hexes triple defense only against amphibious assault, if memory serves.
Excellent Presentation. I just acquired this game and I appreciate the visual instructions as I am always daunted by the rulebooks,
Booboo: The air unit flew from Kohlberg, but you flipped the one next to it. The one next to it could not get to Warsaw.

Wow that is a blast from the past
Indeed. I learned a lot that helps me understand the news these days.

Ouch
Hi! Do different versions come with different counters? I am thinking of buying the 2nd edition on Ebay.
No counters will be the same
Counter set will be the same. The rules have minor differences for each edition; I think the map changed at some point too.
A great game
You either do the offensive option, or you pass.
You inverted the wrong air unit about 8 minutes in. :)

Adam M thank you so much
Get that damn pencil away from this classic game! Use a laser pointer or even some tweezers.
Nice Tweezer shadow on your video. You can't move the light? Next.
