Yeah lyney is good and imo his gameplay isnt that bad. I think his gameplay is good even without shield. Against small enemies he has his taunt. Against big enemies like bosses you can just do CA in between their attacks. With ganyu it isnt possible because of how slow her CA is.
Also btw MH isnt thay good on him. He doesnt properly snapshot the buff without furina. So his first CA wont have the buff, his second CA will only have 1 stack of the CR buff. His third will have 2 and usually you dont do thay many attacks. I think 2pc atk% is better.
