I am reading Toksvig’s Almanac right now and can hear your voice in my head narrating it. I just finished reading Groundhog Day and was so excited to see that I had found a typo! The Groundhog Day entry had been repeated! Than I realized it wasn’t a typo!!! 😂 It’s been so nice to have your chats again through these pages. 😊
The only pleasure I get while Mrs B is watching the athletics is hearing the commentator say the name "Johnson-Thompson". I don't know which sport Ms Johnson-Thompson excels at, as by that time I've zoned out again, but yes I agree - if only all sports had people with interesting names.

Hi, Sandy. It was so exciting to see you on my UA-cam feed today. Getting here late, but there's been a trivial little election going on over here in the states, so it took a bit for this to surface. VoxTox is delightful, and I was sorry to see it end, but understood. I'll be looking for the book and will need several copies. Here's a little side bit you may find amusing about the whale story. The city of Florence has made a commemorative park at the site of the whale explosion--seriously, before covid even--and had plans to celebrate the park and the 50th anniversary as a big tourist draw. May as well celebrate what makes you famous. Lovely town. They even have a literary festival every year that gets the likes of Amy Stewart. Big literary scene in Oregon, centered on Portland, who has an even bigger literary festival. So someone who wrote a book, just sayin . . . I visit Florence frequently as one of my kids lives there. First place we went to was that park. Greatly enjoy your work. Thank you so much for all the hours of entertainment.

It’s been very strange to watch as I live in one of the few countries that hasn’t locked down at all while keeping a tight lid on case numbers (Taiwan). I wish everyone well. Being safe is little comfort when people you care about are still at risk. 🙏
For what it’s worth, before the election, I wrote an open letter about growing up as an American trying to reconcile my upbringing with America as it is now. You and others have spoken about the need to rethink how we live in the world; the letter (here:www.hagenmusic.net/2020/11/dear-america-personal-history.html?m=1) expresses my own struggle to do that. I share it with any who may be interested; it is a thorough if singular testimonial, not short, but I hope taken in the honest and sincere spirit in which it was written. 🙏

I think it’s Anglicised from the French ‘tout suite’ meaning straight away, but I don’t know where/when/why!
