    To get that old pipe out I've watched a few Water well pipe extraction videos and they use a "Water well rotary Taper Tap". It's just a large tap tapered threaded screw that you put on the end of another pipe then screw the tap into the end of the broken off pipe until it bites and pull both pipes out as one.

    • @doubledrats235

      My guess is that it's been corroding with the wall pipe for decades. Might be possible to smash it out with enough rods/2x4s in series and let it slide all the way through once it dislodges.

      @@doubledrats235 I saw a a vise-grip mounted on the end of pole in my head. Once you get it clamped on the end of that pipe, pull it up. I'd bet there will be an update about this drain not working correctly someday.

      Pipe needs to come back out the way it went in imo. But not sure how. A neo magnet will stick to the original pipe before it gets to the problem pipe. Something like a fish grabber that slides down a rope or ice block grabber? Ice block grabber is way too wide. A pipe that sticks into the problem pipe with some sort of rubber thing that goes into the problem pipe and expands when the tool pipe is turned maybe. Like how a screw wall anchor works.

    • @edkorobanov6841
      @edkorobanov6841 8 місяців тому +20

      to get that pipe out use a cam type steel plate lifter, hook to at least a ton and a half chain com-a-long. push your rigging down the hole to the lip of the pipe and engauge with your pushrod. i cant tell from your video where to hook the other end of the come-a-long, maybe set up a tri or bipod or a beam across a doorway or steel plate with a padeye anchored to the wall........ that drain wont work with that pipe in there, looks like a 6inch nipple next to it too....... too bad you hammered it it tighter then drilled it, now ya gotta do it under water

    so that cast iron has suffered a lot. there is a pipe restauration method that goes by many names, but it basically inverts a epoxy infused sock into a pipe. it looks like this pipe is a prime candidate for this, if you can get the conduit out of it. it works with the conduit in it, but you'll have a restricted pipe, which is usually no bueno for waste disposal.

      @@443DM I wouldn't want to be the one to clean it if it didn't. The bit end was only 3/4", that 2" has to come out for any kind of descent flow. They may be able to drill a couple more penetrations, but that would be it. I do low voltage and have the same 6' bit in my truck for fishing walls.
      I wonder if it could or should be bore brushed before a liner install? I'm not proficient on cast iron.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 8 місяців тому +1

      @@Normandy1944 When company did our sewer system with liner, where i use to live they start from lowest part, then used this dremel extension type cable in sleeve down the pipe that used brushes to stay centered well as clean the walls. I recall it was steel.. might been combination of straight and coiled brushes and water jets that scrape the surfaces on bare metal and flush the dirt out, then pressured air to dry it, witch brings to worst thing in this idea..i recall pipe needs to be dry and not be in use for several hours as it dries.
      Only method would be to get water tight seal on bottom end like bowel to cup the area, then suck water off, clean it, dry is and install the liner. It might be more feasible to remove blockage completely and use pvc pipe as new drain since it straight tube down, but before that can be even considered pipe needs to be cleared and even.
      In this i would probably made my own drillbit from tube and maybe diamond cup bit and maybe black iron pipes as extension handle/arm thingy, so you can rotate it to get around the pipe and then when you run into the pipe that is now not visible use it to hammer down, if you could get it dislodged or increase the drill tubes length enough to punch trough, before wire wheeling whole pipe interior with bore brush. You might be lucky and 125mm wire wheel disk fits into the pipe snuffly.
      I'm not familiar with the marine waste management, but i do know its better the get the tube cleaned and cleared properly before dumping anything, specially organic down the drain, even if its just gray water, let alone black.

    It looks like at some point the people managing the lighthouse decided the drain was no longer needed and filled it with cobble, including the length of 2" pipe ... the chunk of pipe that was at the top (via gopro) sort of says that. Maybe just visiting vandals tossing stuff down a hole (as visiting vandals do) ... a real plug by people who drill holes would be plugged with clay (read: cat litter) with a screen plug. If you can get the 2" pipes out you probably should- echoing the comments of people suggesting a diver take a look at the outside ... somebody reading this is a diver in your area and would love to take a look. Have you thought to dive in the bay and check the other end from outside? It also looks like a second piece of pipe is holding the other piece in place shortly before the exit to the bay...

      My guess was the other end would get clogged with sealife, and their clearing method was to put in pieces of pipe to smash through, but they lost some pipe along the way. Then enough crud layered on it.

    Hi, I'm from across the big pond, and used to be a Lighthouse Keeper. On some of our Lights out to sea, that had toilets introduced, they were met with some caution by the Keepers. It was discovered that when the seas and weather were in a certain direction, the waves shot up the outlet! and out of the toilet bowl. So in some storms, I've even heard of Keepers shoving a rubber bucket in the said toilet to try and stop it. Hopefully your Lighthouse and technology will have a better solution. Cheers and stay safe.

    Two things come to mind after watching today's video: 1. instead of a GoPro, you need a pipe scope for this sort of thing. 2. Did the smaller pipe drop out of the main pipe when you cleared the opening and got water flowing up? Anything in that pipe that is still there is going to be a snag for "things" to catch on when using it as a drain. OK, 3, things: maybe you can line the main pipe like they do for restoration of water mains, etc. so its a slick surface going through. Again, reduces the chances of things getting caught in the pipe and causing a clog. Otherwise, this is really cool. Keep at it!

    at 7:50 you can see that is another collar from connecting 2 joints of pipe and it is stuck sideways. To get that joint of pipe out you will need more pipe and a long fluted tap on the end of it. feed new pipe down to that old stuff with the tap on the end and tap into that piece down there. either force it out the bottom or pull it out the top. Very similar to fishing for a pump in the water well business.

    Plumbing code usually requires a drain over 8" to have a vent. That 2" pipe may have been for this drain. More likely it's from an old attempt to break through the clog. Might consider an easy out screwed into the smaller pipe to try and remove it. Good luck and congratulations on your success.

  • @JoFreddieRevDr
    @JoFreddieRevDr 8 місяців тому +2

    I agree with the other that say you need to get that inner pipe out, you are constantly going to have problems with that drain if you don't completely clear it, the small hole you've made with that long drill is not going to cope.

    We had to pull a section pipe that came loose in a well casing at my grandparents house once. We ended up buying an exhaust pipe expander from harbor freight, welding it to the end of a piece of rebar, and putting a section of inner tube around it so it wouldn't slip as much when turning it in the pipe.... then we put it in the section of lost pipe, tightened it up and pulled it out.
    Not sure if something like that would have helped you pull that section of smaller pipe out or not.... but it's still a neat trick to know and a cheap tool to make.

    I have a few ideas that may work better next time. Pvc pipes taped to the wet vacuum to reach further (I use it to vacuum June bugs off my banana trees 😂) and to help break up the sediment perhaps one of those manual well digging kits they sell online or at places like harbor freight, look up a few videos on how to use.

    • @thelighthousecenters
      @thelighthousecenters  8 місяців тому

      We actually ended up doing something similar, taping a few extensions together on the shop vac to reach all the way down and then using the water jet and drill bit to break off sediment. Hopefully we won't have any June bug problems at the lighthouse!😳

    Shock the pipe with a chisel and hammer.
    Use a thread tap than to get a grip. And thread a bolt into the center. You could use an 1 inch drive extension and break it loose with a beefy impact. Or atleast rattle it.
    You could then use some type of pully pull clamp on the bolt head if your afraid of stripping the threads with rotational force.
    Also if you had a grip you could use a slide hammer type action, or swing a sledge upwards to a plate or something attached what ever you've gotten to grip the pipe.
    You could also use an expanding screw anchor inside to grip the pipe.
    Screw coupling? Fill the hollow core of the pipe so it doesn't collapse. And fit a larger cylinder that clamps down with and screw action.
    You could heat the pipe up with a battery lmao.
