This massive tune that blew up raves up and down the UK in 1991 was certainly a ground breaking track that opened the door to a whole new style of hardcore rave music, it is also often cited as the first hardcore dance track to incorporate the amen breakbeat.
This is in fact wrong as the amen sample was being used in other tracks at the time and the first hardcore tune to feature amen was Father Forgive Them by Holy Noise (Hithouse) which was released in 1990.

Saying that We Are Ie is still one of the greatest tunes of a great era.
I was there when he produced this. Sebert Road in Forest Gate. Juno 106 an Akai S950 and an Atari running cubase. Game changer. Big up Lenny and the Brother Man (Long John RIP) and Mike Aymer. Peace - Hopa & Bones.
that Foul Play remix is a favourite dude!
This and Bomb Scare were the rudest
lenny was a plasterer if im not mistaken?
Nice
that's exactly what happened I know, i was the Arari.
This is cited as the first track to have the stylistic elements of both Jungle and Drum & Bass. It was recorded in 1988. Note the ragga inspired bassline, the vibey synths in the intro, and the gunshots throughout the track that would become a staple in Junglist music.
Fifty two years old and still this tune gives me a right thrill! I can send this to my rave crew without any explanation, and they know! Brilliant times thank you!!!
48
Same although they mostly all dead..only 2 left out of around 30 of us.
I'm bang on 50 July...the youngest went at 20,the oldest 52.. but tell u something ...we were.we are ......E
You got 10 years on me, but I love to hear that :) Hardcore never dies x
Ditto....goosebumps...at 52 🤣🤣🤣
being a teenager in the UK, I'm offended this type of music isn't played more
SAME !!!!!!!
it isnt? just go to an oldschool rave, youve got plenty in the uk :D
Jungle is played
Shame mate propa missed out never gana come again..tune yeah maybe but the vibe and raving family back the na mate unfortunate for you guys don't give up the search tho..OR Make ur own
It’s because Brits are all idiots and don’t know good music.
Oooh imagine in the early 90’s a whole warehouse of young ravers steady skanking skipping to this and that bass line just bouncing everyone from pillar to post…well I don’t have to imagine because I was of them…absolute tune
Game changer, I'm 53 now and this still puts a shiver down my spine
I'm sat in the mancave/ garage with tasty green at nearly 40 holding on to the memories of my youth and the friends I lost ! ....peace and unity to all who where there 🙆☝👆
Patrick Murphy 😊✌🏻
Yep we all miss those days
If only we had a time machine
But we would all look like dibble now that we’re all 40+ lol
@@carlos75337 Amen to that brother
The unity a rare thing in the world today
@@kaicowan9668 your right!
Remember everyone going mental when this dropped at Camden palace in the early 90's. No feeling can compare when everyone's going nuts together.
Yes I remember them days 💥💥
What a tune. Isn't it ironic that rather than Lenny putting a copywrite ban on this page, he posts a back story instead. Just goes to show what our rave generation was all about. Not a bunch of corporate tossers, just in it for the music and the buzz.
Good comment 👍🏾 I'm tired of seeing my playlist say "music taken down due to Sony BMG" or some shite
60, and it still rocks my boat. Remember Rage, Thursday night, at the Charing cross arches.
I was there at Rage. Then Stearns and later Labrynth. I’m an old man now lol
Still love it though x
Not an english old man, not an old raver, just a french person wishing she had discovered this earlier !
You are I.EEEE mally, have more like this in my box
You have the heart and spirit of an old raver. The music and vibes got to so many of us and stuck. All classes, nationalities, religions, races. Take care, French music-lover. X
You discovered it thats the main thing & im pleased you did. This is an absolute classic, the build ups, the drop, the bass 🥰 #fromanoldraver 🕺🏼🙏❤️
I'm only 28 and I absolutely love this tune with a passion!! The intro is absolutely amazing!! There's also some great remixes!
Can still see the saucer eyes and gurners all around when I hear this x
Big up the saucer eyes and gurners...I was proud to be 1
I'm bang on 50 July. on pirate radio 2 rave 2 travellers festie This trax been in my ears. Respect to all old sckool. From a group of 30 buddies only 4 of us left ,the youngest went at 20,the oldest 52. But tell u something - we were...we are....E
That's sad
Happy memories cause they are still alive.
So long as they are spoken about by you
Sorry to hear that mate. Im 48 now and have lost a few good pals too along the way. The memories remain though for those of us that are left....We'll rave to the grave! Peace and love to all oldskool heads
This tune was my Eureka moment, all other music before was for other generations , and this was the birth of The Rave Generations "WE ARE E!!!!!"
Massive tune
If you know you know
Big up Lenny D ❤️
The original hybrid jungle drum and bass choon.

The start of a new era in music. 53yrs now and still loving this ... best of times
I remember listening to this when Kiss Fm was a pirate radio station many many many moons ago. 1989. Oh my how this wonderful life flys ❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great times….
monday nite kiss fm abtract aounds
I remember the first time I heard this on an Eclipse tape, back in the day when everyone bumped around with a walkman of some description and this tune soon became my duracell battery killer for rewinding it so many times. The youth of today have no idea how lucky they are with their instant gratification. Back then it was a 30 second wait to roll the tape back and even then half the time not to where you wanted unless you were privileged enough to have walkman with a counter on it. I played this the other day to my son, who immediately started with the head nod and I thought is it genetics that makes him nod his head or the greatness (and I choose my words wisely Lennie if you're reading) of this tune?
Shall we walk back and do it all again 😊 ❤️ ☮️
I would tomorrow
My brain says yes lets ave it but my 48 year old bod most probably couldnt do it anymore lol
I found it, thank you god I have found what I have lost!
Same as lol
Nearly perfect and completely ageless. See also Energy Flash by Joey Beltram
Oh my lawd bad chune 👍🏾 London at it’s best
What a banger back in the day when pill were pills
I remember hearing this style of dance tunes at raves in 89/90 but never knew the tune names, but first time I got these tunes on a record was when I bought Rebel MCs “Black Meaning Good” album, with Barrington Levy which was a revelation,I’d always loved Reggae,so this was the best of both Worlds! 🇵🇸
I remember being a kid listening this think yeah I like this then the jungle beat kicked I was like WOW!!!
Colin Faver show on kiss back in the day.
Felt sorry for the subwoofers in my car when I played this tune. This tune carries me to every race on a hype. Rain dance, energy, dungeons, the list goes on. Big up Lennie.
An important tune. See how the roots of D&B are evident in the early days of House ❤
yeah lol some kids are shocked to discover jungle comes from house lmao
Little deep mate for the the simple minded inexperienced
Take a step back son
I get ya!!!!
But next man’s….
Next to take a step back n take deep breath
It's hardcore jungle techno mate not house.
Rave is Hardcore jungle techno and the genres of today are all sub genres of hardcore jungle techno
notice how he said the roots of d&b, not d&b itself @@NEILRHYS
I still got this track and all the tracks from 80s and 90s ànd beyond still in my record collection to this day KEEP THE FAITH EVERYBODY and I will never get rid of my records to many memories DON'T FORGET PEOPLE WE ARE I.E .
3 words,,,what a tune...Nuff said....pure old school dope on plastic..😆😨😃
Use to rave to this in dungeons Lee Bridge Road, vauxhall arches, the fridge Brixton lol brilliant days
Dungeon was a bit of a mad place used to go there early in the morning after Astoria crazy club and dancing in the car park
first heard it played at linford film studios , got a cab back and the guy was listening to the shipping forecast all the way home. I swear it took a few hours for me to unscrew my face after that night,
Battersea massive in the area.👏👏👏
That was the lick especially roast at linford Street studios ❤
Some tunes really bring me back and get me emotional.
This is one of those tunes!!
This is Nasty. The Spin-Back Sample & Amen here is Delicious 🎉

Inland Empire
One of my desert island discs for sure. I'm sat at my desk playing this and it's so hard to sit still.
This tune reminds me of the first 24 hour Rave at Goldenhill Fort, Isle of Wight 1991.....I was 25 at the time! Fantastic memories......R.I.P. to all of my friends who've passed on since then ❤️
we were on E IN 88, NO club in the uk would play rave tunes them days, so we did the illegal ones bad ass they were.
Hands up if you experienced this 1st time around and didn’t just come across it on you tube!
Name the club and dj who rocked it?
DJ hype eclipse cov
For me it was college radio. Not sure if the dj ever mentioned his name. However I first learned the name of the track when I bought "Routes from the jungle" compilation many years later.
All I know, rocking out of my head, burning the soles of my trainers, and how quickly 8 hours can rush on by. I don't remember the Djs that were there playing as they appeared, only by recalling that nights flyer to know who it was.
Old school raver.You in danger!!!!
My boy's vinyl collection at the time... discovered ardcore the same weekend as I discovered e e e e ....(n Luce e e e e lol)
Sounds good on my Bose all these years later - wish I had the system back in the day 😜

51 now
Make the most of your lives kids it goes so quickly
What if this track wasn't representing drugs or the creator, but the purpose of We are I.E. is that in English writing to mean 'that is' or commonly referred to as 'in other words'...the true meaning of this song is to say 'We are that is'...only transpired into the lifestyle for that genre.
Underrated comment!
ID EST is Latin.
Stunning thank you
I have sung we are e forever lol
Forever and a day....👏👏👏
