I go to Golden Corral and a couple of Chinese buffets. I eat what I like and don't worry about trying to maximize bang for buck or over stuffing myself. You get plenty full, enjoy your meal, and the price is economical.
I feel like I already get my money's worth just by eating sushi and raw salmon at an all you can eat place, because I certainly would be paying more if I paid per dish at revolving sushi restaurant. Anything else I fill up on is just more value for my buck.
Why would you want to fill up on garbage sushi? I would rather go to a quality restaurant and know that I'm paying for good quality, property prepared sushi instead of going to a sushi feed trough.
my salad consists of a mixture of french, ranch and 1000 island dressing, with green olives, cheese, eggs, bacon. I put just enough lettuce on the bottom so that when I stick my fork into it it sticks. Otherwise I'd have to eat it with a spoon and eating a salad with a spoon is just wrong.
Only rookies fall for these tactics. Think of anything you put on your plate at a price per pound equal to the buffet cost. It takes thirty minutes for your belly to tell your brain its full. So you can eat like hell for half an hour. Easy on the pasta and bread, drink water only.
I've learned that the best way to start a buffet is to just serve yourself two plates full of food before ever taking a single bite. That way, you can eat more without having to wait to eat what you want
I am sure i always overpay as I dont eat much at a sitting anyway. I like to try a little of something for something different. Cheaper to order something you like and have leftovers for next day.
Cracks me up when people say they have to get their money's worth. If you can't afford a single plate (like at a cafe) then don't go. Why make a pig of yourself. Get a sensible plate of food, take your time, and enjoy it. Get some desserts and enjoy them.
Very instructive video on how to maximize the value of eating at buffets! Personally, I hate buffets. On cruise ships, at least there are human beings wearing cooking uniforms stirring the containers of food on display. On land, the only people you see there are taking your money or giving you drinks, for which they charge. In my experience, the baked goods are generally the best to be found at buffet restaurants. I always load up on desserts first. After I've sampled all of them, if I'm still hungry I proceed to the beef, lamb and seafood. Who cares about the order of things?
We rarely eat at Buffet's, and when we did, we always did a walk though first (if possible). This was to see if the food was fresh, if it didn't look good we went for the menu option.
The only buffet I regularly go to is a Chinese buffet. I look over the food choices before I put anything on my plate. I always look for salmon and shrimp first, or whatever fish is being served. Then I just take one or two pieces of whatever meat, cooked mushroom, and other seafood choices there are. No rice or potatoes or salad bar or soup or dessert for me!
I use to go buffet on weekend to relax, i have choice of plenty of foods , but i take my time to eat what I want and read a good book. I can get full for the day, lunch and dinner, pay a good price and read good book all in one.
My husband and I went to a seafood buffet, it was 80.00 a person. I grabbed as many crab legs as possible he came to the table with chicken tenders and mashed potatoes.
If you paid 80.00 dollars for a one-time so-called buffet, you were willingly ripped off, and there is no way you came anywhere near your money's worth. Your stomach can't even hold 80.00 dollars worth of food unless you are morbidly obese. Next time your husband wants to spend 80.00 dollars on food, tell him to meet me at the grocery store and we can show you how it should be done.
I think I came close, between the prime rib and crab. I also felt the the price was pretty high as well. Thanks for the offer on how to grocery shop though.
If you are looking for salad, or healthy stuff at a buffet, you shouldn’t go to a buffet. The lady in the vid mentioned “unhealthy oils”, and like lack of a “nutritional guide”. Ugh, you are going to eat unhealthy at a buffet! Thats why you do it!
Mashed potatoes (often the purposely under hydrated instant kind) will expand more after you get thirsty while eating it. A local AYCE place taught me that trick years ago. [Wink.] JMO.
Basic rules for buffets: avoid the bread, the salads are a negative, limit the rice and starches. At a Vegas buffet I have three regular plates then one plate of deserts. Then I am done.

What's your buffet go to?
I hit the Chinese buffet for chicken wings. The chicken on a stick is 🔥.
I always follow the rule of eating what I like and not worrying about trying to make them lose money.
Well said!
When I go to a buffet I only eat the proteins. I stay away from pasta rice potatoes anything like that.
They best way to beat the buffet is don't eat for 36 hours straight. 😊

Agreed! The one I go to has a boatload of sashimi! If I were to order that from a restaurant, I couldn’t even imagine the cost…

I go for the shrimp first ! 😊
Why would you get a salad at a buffet to begin with??
What tricks are you talkin about?
Hence why soup plantation is gone
Because SALADS are tasty, ever tried CEASAR SALAD, pasta salad, nicoise salad, POTATO salad, it doesn't get BETTER than those😋

Have you seen some of the salad bars though????

It's not about being full at a buffet...even if you are full, it's about tasting everything: take it all and try it all!

I know you big as hell
As a cook from back of house I always go for the expensive proteins and make a salad with the proper toppings just smaller
never been a fan of buffets - too many tricks employed as shown
I like to walk around the buffet first and then decide what to eat.
Here's my take on buffets: i pay in order to have the freedom to eat what i want. End of story.
I always start at the expensive items station 😁

The whole POINT of going to a buffet is so you can guts yourself.
Gut yourself? 😅😅😅

I avoid salad and bread and eat all the expensive stuff!

Crushed cardboard as fillers in food at a Chinese buffet restaurant in SoCal. 😅
In Missouri they stand a huge guy to stand over you at the buffet to intimidate you until you move away from the meat.
No one goes to a buffet to eat healthy...
Thank u for this❤
